On September 12th, 2024, a father observed a black male individual watching his 14-year-old daughter as she was taking a shower. The man, later identified as Damon, had a prior history of stalking minors. The father immediately confronted and chased Damon, at which point law enforcement was called. >> Here is a dad, but it's a question I'm going to ask. How old is your daughter? >> She's 14. >> She's 14. >> She just went into high school. This kid at best is maybe a senior in I mean, >> so just we see this a lot. Yeah. Do you think >> I don't think it's someone she knows? >> Are you able to adise that suspect that 260 gave a description? Was he trying to get into the RP's home or what the issue was? >> Negative. I'm getting to the bottom of it now. It was just um seems more LMP than anything. >> Did you copy the address that I said in front of it? >> Um I don't think it's a person. I think it's someone in the neighborhood. She doesn't she doesn't go to public school. She goes to a private school. She's got no friends around here. She's an indoor kid. So, even if it is another kid that's watching her either way, it's not someone that she knows or has any kind of person. She doesn't know anyone in this neighborhood. I mean, she doesn't go out by herself. She's got friends in Flaggler Beach and we drive her there and pick her up. >> Whoever this kid is is not someone that she's associated with. >> Um, and honestly, that I've never seen before, which is kind of concerning because >> he's too young to be from somewhere far away and to be traveling. Yeah. >> Just to come to my house specifically. >> You saw a picture of him. Would you know him? >> I would know him. I I mean, I've been chasing him for >> Yeah. I didn't know. Yeah. I mean, I I saw him enough to where if you got me in a lineup, I I guarantee you I could >> I'm so pumped up right now, man. I'm sorry. >> Let's um let's get you home. >> Yeah. I'm right around the corner. 25. Hop in the car and I'll take you home. >> Thank you. >> I don't even think my wife knows what's going on cuz I turned my ringer off and just took off running. I never had time to tell her. Take this protocol or something to address other family members there so far. >> Officers approached a neighbor to obtain CCTV footage of the incident and gather background information regarding Damon. >> Hey, scar the [ __ ] out of me. Oh, >> I'm sorry. Uh, my name is Deputy Losi. were with the sheriff's office. Um, there's an incident that happened over there >> uh to your neighbor's house and we were just wondering if you your camera possibly caught footage of it. >> Um, I can check what happened. >> Uh, they're just we're just looking for someone. >> Well, we called earlier this week about someone you posted on Facebook and he lives in this house right here and he's been coming and knocking on our window and we've seen other people post him before. I seen him on his bike. >> I don't know if it's one in the same, but >> um around 8. It's like 8:20 maybe like right around there. Whatever they call tonight. >> Yeah. >> No, we got home like right at that time. 8:31. That's us pulling in. >> Delta 222. >> You have anything before that? >> No, I think it said like 5 510. When you guys were coming back up, did you see anyone like walking through like the roadway or in the area? No. No, I didn't. >> Do you guys remember? >> And I was conscious of that, too, cuz we've seen him before. >> Mhm. >> Well, yeah. There was a certain guy. >> The one we're talking about would be living over here back that way. >> Yeah. There's a guy who's always creeping through our side of the house. >> Is he like What does the guy look like? >> Um, he's probably like mixed, right? or tan. >> Bald or short hair. He's got like a bow in his legs. >> Basketball shorts, like nylon shorts, t-shirt. >> You ever seen him walking a dog? >> No. >> No. >> What's his weight like? >> He's probably like close to 200 lb. >> He hangs out in this this empty lot >> and in June he knocked on our window, our bedroom window. >> And there's been multiple times where you see him run like along the side of our house and he runs out into the street. Do you have any like saved footage of that or anything? >> We do. Yeah. >> Can you show me that? >> Mhm. [Music] >> Sheriff's office. Hi. How's everything? Is Devon there? The bomb. There's no bomb. >> What's his first name? >> Who are you looking for? >> Mr. Smith. >> You got a son? He's 29. How you pronounce his first name? >> Damon. >> 222. >> Hi. I'm here. on that delta 221. >> What's going on? How's everything? Deputy Mer County Sheriff's Office. I'm good. >> Do you mind talking with us? >> Sure. >> Where were you tonight? >> I was out walking. >> Out walking? What time approximately? >> It was maybe an hour ago. >> An hour ago. So 9:30 or earlier than that? >> It was like way before. >> Way before that? What time you think? >> 8 or 9. >> 8 or 9. And do you know whereabout that you walked to? >> I think around the block. >> Around the block. Gotcha. Did you do anything? Did you go anywhere? Yeah, but I I ran around the the block. >> You ran around the block? Do you normally run around the block? >> You do? >> The other day? >> Sometime I run I I run and sometime I walk. >> Any particular reason why you're running? >> I like exercise. >> You like exercise? >> Yeah. >> Gotcha. What shoes were you using? >> Just a heads up. He does have a disability. >> Gotcha. diagnosed as intellectual. >> So some of the questions he may or may not understand. >> So just to let you know. >> Gotcha. >> Do you happen to have the shoes that you're running with? Do you mind showing us those shoes? Mind if we come in? >> So >> just like the other day. >> I got to read you something just because we're talking. All right. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be used as evidence against you. You have the right to talk to an attorney. Have him or her with you now or anytime during question. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent any question. You understand these rights. >> With these rights in mind, are you willing to talk to me? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, just one more time explain it to me. It's 8 to 9:00. >> What happened? >> Um, like cuz I went round I went round around the block and then I took a shortcut and that's how I end up in the in the yard and I guess he thought I was trying to do stuff. I didn't I just kept on like that's when he tried to um threaten me. >> He tried threatening you? >> Yeah. What did he say? >> He um said he was trying to get me to hit the back. >> Mhm. >> And then um that was pretty much [ __ ] And that's when he calmed down. >> Did he swing it at you or he just had it? >> He he swung it at you. >> But he missed. >> But he missed. He missed. Gotcha. >> And then what did you do from there? Like did you stay there? >> No, I just kept running. >> So you ran? >> I ran. Yeah. >> So which way did you run? I ran. It was went from that street right there. I don't know the name of it. >> Yeah. >> And then he just kept following me. >> Gotcha. >> He was he was um kept following me. Like I literally tried to break in his house, but I wasn't. But he just kept following me, following me. Told him leave me alone. >> Mhm. >> Like I said, I didn't damage his property. I ain't touch nothing. I just ran. >> Gotcha. So, you're running all around the neighborhood. Do you know which streets or anything like that? >> I don't I mean, I know the street, but I don't know it by heart. >> Did you go through any other yards or houses or >> It was just like a shortcut cuz it's closest to this street. So, Gotcha. And you you stated before that you fell. >> Mhm. >> That's why your your shoes were dirty. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Where where about did you fall? >> And I ran the mud. >> You ran in the mud? >> Yeah. It was right there where you guys are parked at. >> Gotcha. >> And then I end up landing that that puddle and walking walking in that puddle. >> And what approximately what time did you get home? >> It had to be maybe close to 9:30, 10:00. Well, not 10:00, but maybe 9:30. >> So you stayed out for quite a bit. And you I usually be out for like an hour. >> Gotcha. How long after the runs did you stay out for? >> Not long. But once I come back from the run, I stay in I stay inside. >> How long you think after the run? >> Did I come back? >> Mhm. >> Like come back outside. >> Come back home. >> Oh no. I just stayed in the house. >> So you're done running, right? >> Mhm. >> After he was done chasing you, how long did it take you to roughly get back home? Oh, I don't know. To be honest with you, I didn't keep up with the time. I was trying to too busy getting away from I didn't I didn't count. Gotcha. >> But you just came directly home. >> Yeah, I just came directly home. >> Gotcha. Take a shower or anything like that? >> No, I took a shower. >> You took a shower? >> My first was hot. >> Hot and dirty. Gotcha. >> All right. Do you have anything else you want to say? So, >> when you're on the property taking the shortcut, what was the reason he wanted to go after you? >> I don't know. Like I said, he thought I was trying to look through his his, you know, window cuz I was like close. I like I said, I was running. >> Pretend the van window is his window. How close were you? Like >> I was like right here. Like you're standing where you are now or you were standing there >> like to be like right here from where you were. >> Okay. >> And it just this was the distance and then like I was getting tired and I stopped and I guess he thought I was looking through the mirror cuz I was doing like this. You know how you get real tired and just lean down like that? >> Yeah, that's what I was doing. And he thought I was looking through. >> Was anyone in the bedroom when you were >> I don't know. I didn't see you. >> I didn't even look over there. I got you. >> I mean, it's not my business. Why would I look in, you know, the window? >> Mhm. >> Have you ever taken that one as a shortcut before or, >> you know, first time? >> Just some and then I like to take shortcuts home when I run. >> You realize people don't like you on their property or not you in general, just they don't like strangers going on their property cuz if you get hurt on their property, they're responsible for it. So, I mean, if you're going to take shortcuts, you can't be taking it through people's yards. Um, but where did you take a shortcut yesterday? >> The day before? >> Yeah, last night. >> To be honest, I don't I don't remember. I take shortcuts from time to time and be different areas. God would. >> So, I appreciate you being honest with me. last night around roughly the same time frame. Did you go in anybody's property or anything like that? Be honest with me. >> Most of the time. Most of the time I I'm not going to lie. I do run through yards. >> Mhm. >> And then other than that, I, you know, work my way back onto the road. I just run just to run. >> I want you to be honest with yourself. >> Were you at that house last night, too? >> Just be honest. No, I was not in that house. I was at a different I was in a different yard last. >> You were in a different yard and I end up going to a different street. >> What? What did that look like? >> They had like bunch of trees on the ground, but it was on the other side of the not around the corner. >> What What the house look like from from the backyard? >> I know. It was like whitish it had like you know those kind of shoes. >> Was there like a pool or a screened in LAI? Maybe two screened in lenai. Was it like a duplex? There's a lot of duplexes around here. >> I believe it was >> it was a duplex >> cuz half the time these houses look alike. >> Yeah. >> So and then I barely paid attention. I just ran. >> Gotcha. So, >> so yesterday's house that you were at was a duplex. Did it have any pools or anything or >> Gotcha. Did dark so I I couldn't barely see. >> Did it have any like screened in area or was it open? That you can look all that. >> Was there any people in the backyard? >> No. I mean, I didn't see him, so I could I couldn't I >> All right. Like I said, I don't I didn't damage anything. I don't, you know, the same way. You know, if somebody >> So, you don't damage things. What's What's the purpose of looking in people's windows? What are you What are you trying to accomplish? I just want to understand why. And if you can help me understand why, I can better understand all the encounters that I've had with you and then why you're doing it. Just what what's the purpose of it? >> I just I look around like around my surroundings because I don't think I'm doing that. >> Just be honest. Like what what's the purpose? I mean, this isn't the first time that we've dealt and you just told me that almost every night you take shortcuts. So, you probably >> It's definitely more than a once occasion. What What's the purpose behind it? Why Why are you >> There's no purpose. Are you trying to just look inside, get a view? I mean, I'm not going to shame you or anything. I just I'm just trying to understand. No, I just I just do it. Yeah, I just do it. Like I said, I just do it. >> Do you like watching people? Is it like a people watching thing? >> No, I'm not going to stop. >> I I didn't say stalking. Some people Some people just like to watch people. >> I'm not saying I'm not saying that's what you're doing. I'm just trying to understand if that's what you are. Cuz some people do. They just like to watch people. People watch you. Some people they like to look into people's windows while people are changing or anything like that. [Music] >> You like to see houses? [Music] You have any questions? All right. Do we better grab that one? All right. You got any weapons on you? >> 15. >> Uh, security. >> Delta 213. Good. Delta 221 has an adult male secure just hanging out with him. >> We're going to walk towards the end of the driveway here. >> Watch your armor. Some of my being detained or >> currently yes. >> Okay. [Music] So, what is it that you hope to see when you look into the houses? Nothing. Um, like I said, I just I didn't end up um because I'm not going to stop there. I don't I don't know what that guy told me. >> Well, I mean, tonight aside, I mean, there's been several times over the past month of time, right? There's been times you got chairs and stuff to stand on. Don't sound familiar at all. [Music] >> Is anyone ever with you when you go to these houses? No, >> I don't mean tonight. I just mean in general. >> No. You never go for walks with anybody? No. [Music] I'm not making I'm not making you feel uncomfortable, am I? >> No. Well, don't you know how I'm not like everybody else on your phone? >> No, really. You've been cool with us. We appreciate it. that I didn't miss anybody's uh properties. I mean, we're not so much worried about the damaging of property. I mean, I don't think anyone's reported that you've done that, but you know, peer into people's windows, you know, where they have an expectation of privacy and makes people not feel right. I mean, >> yeah. >> What would you think? Looks like he's on the PX. >> Oh, look. What would you think if someone was standing outside your house looking in your window? about since the 24th. >> Would you think they're there to say hi and be your friend or would you think that they're there to maybe hurt you or your kids? >> Yeah, I think the same way. >> You would think what? >> I would think the same way. >> What way is that? >> Thinking somebody trying to do something >> like hurt you. >> So, well, that's why you have someone chasing off their property. That's why you have a law enforcement response here. November. >> Not like you were just going for a jog in the street minding your own business. You know, you're up by people's windows, you know? It's Have you ever seen anyone through the windows? [Music] Were you ever looking for someone in particular? H >> Were you ever looking for someone in particular? >> No. What made you go back to the same house the second time? >> How'd you know how to get back to the same one? >> Um, it's from me doing my uh shortcuts when I run. >> It's from doing what? >> My um going through the shortcuts. Like I said, I know the I know the streets by heart, but not the streets. I mean, just the >> houses. >> Yeah, I kind I don't pay attention when I have the house. So, I kind of keep >> But I mean, if the point is to be out for a run and get the exercise, how can you take shortcuts by houses that aren't >> I only I only do it if like if I'm far away. But other than that, it really don't um the farness doesn't bother me. >> Hey, I have his phone. >> I got you. Give it a few. [Music] >> You roll. >> Hm. >> You roll. >> Yeah. >> Audio. >> Yeah. Change it. That wasn't a little comfortable the way you sat, right? >> There's a little more comfortable way. >> I'm going to move this. >> So, if you stand in this door frame and face me, >> slow down. Yep. >> Yep. Just like that. Slow down. Sit down. Watch your head. Short door frame. Watch your head. Watch your head. Watch your head. >> Keep your feet out and then scoot straight back. And you can put your feet feet on the chair. >> Feet on the chair. Feet on the chair. >> It's going to be a lot more comfortable. >> Yep. Scoot all the way to the other side. >> Everyone else. >> And this little pocket is good to rest your hand so you're not putting the weight on. >> How's the temperature back there? >> Oh, it's fine. >> It's all right. >> Little area. >> And this is more comfortable for you? >> It is. >> All right. These are questions I always have to ask everybody so you you are aware. Do you have anything in you on you or near you that's considered contraband to an inmate facility that I didn't find on you? Alcohol, tobacco, firearms, knives, matches, lighters, vape products, tobacco products. >> I don't smoke. I'm so >> I have to ask everyone. >> And if they do find it anything that's considered contraband, it's a extra felony charge. >> Okay. >> All right. Tank will be there soon. The suspect, Damon, was charged with loitering and prowling, voyerism, and aggravated stalking.
