Just listen. Look, look at me. Look at me. Look at me, ma'am. That child was found in the median the median of the highway. [music] Hello. >> Hey. Something called that one of the kids had gotten out and had gone out into the road and they brought a kid back. >> Um, I'm not for sure about that. Not >> for sure about that. >> Yeah, I was in that doing um in the kitchen, so I'm not for sure. All right, I'll go call the call taker back and we'll figure it out. >> Okay. She's saying she has no idea what I'm talking about. >> Hello. >> Hey, Rick. >> Yes. >> Hi, it's Senior Officer Wilder with the Futland Park Police Department. I'm trying to get a little bit more clarification on the call you uh called in about the blah blah blah blah blah the child on the road. >> Yes. >> Um you said you saw the or at least our notes notate that you saw the kid get picked up and brought back to the daycare center. >> Oh well we were going down the other side of the highway. So we couldn't stop to help. So I went to the first red light. That's when I was talking to you guys and in my rearview mirror I could still see the baby in the middle of the street. But by the time the light changed and I turned around to go back two other cars had stopped. I saw that black woman. She was a black a little black baby. black woman and I saw her up at at she had just grabbed the baby >> because two other people had stopped. I mean, it was serious. >> And she had grabbed it and got back and walked right into that learning center. >> The one right across from the state park area, right? >> Yes. Yes. Yep. >> Okay. Yeah. The reason why I called to clarify this with you is because I showed up at this daycare. I said, "Hey, we had a report that one of your kids had gotten out into the road and she's got no clue what I'm talking about." out. She was wearing like a black dress kind of petite looking woman. >> Well, the the baby got dropped off and the mom left. Right when I gave you guys the plate, she was getting in her car to leave. That's why I said she sees me looking at her, so I left. >> But I gave you guys her plate, but she took off. The mom did after she dropped the baby off of the So, the lady in the learning center probably didn't know. >> Okay. So, it was the the mama that managed to lose the kid. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. No, it wasn't the daycare. She hadn't dropped her off yet. >> She must have been doing something in her car and the little kid got out and started running across the [laughter] I mean, it was I've never seen something like that. It was really scary, >> but And I'm sure she didn't mean to do it, but my god, if there would have been cars, it was a three-lane highway on both sides. >> Four lane. If there would have been that light would have been changed, cars would have been barreling down there. The baby would have been killed. So, >> we may have to get back in contact with you. >> We may have to get back in contact with you. I'm just giving you that heads up now. >> But now that I got that clarification, >> yeah, my buddy's with me, too. He saw the whole thing cuz he was going to jump out, Jake. So, yeah, I don't want anybody in trouble, but damn. >> Yeah, that's what we witnessed was bad, you know. >> Yes, that's that's incredibly dangerous. All right, let me clarify this with like the daycare and my sergeant that's sitting here, and we'll see what we want to do about it. Okay. >> I'm sorry. Yeah. Thank you. But you can call me if you need to. So, >> all right. Thank you, sir. You have a good evening or afternoon or whatever time it is. >> You too. >> Bye. >> He's inside. You want to see him? >> Make sure he's okay. >> According to the call taker, it was the mother that seemed to have lost control of the child. >> Huh? >> Not sure. >> It was a mother. >> Long story short, >> if you want to just give her the rundown real quick, we're on the same page. >> So, we um I just got outside. I just got outside with the kids with the ones I had and um the baby that ran out. I realized the gate was because usually I check it every time and I was just except expecting it to be locked but it was unlocked. He came running and whenever I realized I did come running after him. The lady that um pulled pulled in um was right here. No. Uh he was right there by the door. So flying right there. >> So >> but he is but he is inside. He say >> but she >> Yeah. Come on. >> So when she asked me when she asked him cuz they going inside right here. >> This they play area right here. This they play area. So I guess he ran out cuz she she got six other kids. So I guess when he ran out he push I guess he pushed his head up and ran out and he I guess he was right there and the lady seen him as she was passing by and she was jumped out grabbed him and I guess that's when she was coming to get him from her. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um cuz >> my daddy do it where they can't even leave out or nobody can come in. >> But it's not even >> Yeah. He I don't know it it was some kind of way that he had it where it cannot like nobody could not leave from out of it. So I don't know what Miss Haley did to the gate or what happened but it always been locked but nobody could run out. So I'm not for sure. >> I want to see how you could lock it cuz it don't even pull in. That's not locked. There's no way to lock it. >> I do not know. I do not know. Yeah, it was it was completely This was completely locked where you couldn't even like nobody could come in or nobody could come out. But I don't see how it could be because it's not anywhere though. >> I don't know. I don't know. That's why I was trying to tell him to come here so he can it was like I don't know if he put something here where it could never like open or close. I don't know how he >> I don't know if he put something like here like something was attached. Something was attached like up here or something. Some kind of way it was attached. I'm not for sure how he attached it or how it was. I'm not for sure how it was. But maybe but I don't know. Something was here though. Something had to be here. Something had to be here. I guess I'm thinking something had to be here. I'm not for sure what was here. >> Complete hole for it to go into. So >> I don't know how this was how this was made. >> You want to maybe secure that before? >> Yes, ma'am. That's what That's why right away >> because some how this I never had this happen when nobody like runs out or anything. I never had this problem. Hello. >> Hello. >> Do you guys need a statement? >> If you were willing to provide, I would love one. >> I pick him up in the It was another car that was here >> and he he made it all the way out to the highway. >> He was in the meeting and someone else stopped in it. Yes. >> Sorry. >> I I got chills. I have three kids of my own go to the daycare in the back right here in Footland Park. So I Yes, I'll write a statement. I wasn't the one that called the police though. I just I actually was on a door dash order. >> Yeah. >> And I stopped because I seen another car in the road. He was she was trying to catch him. He was running from her. And um I she said I I don't know whose kid it is, but I'm I live in the area. I knew the daycare was right here. So I said, "Just give it to me. I'm sure he's here at the daycare." And I she gave them to me and I just drove across the >> child over to >> uh whoever was at the front desk. >> Black dress or white lady? >> Black dress. Black lady. Oh, she not left. Okay. >> Hello. >> Hi, Desiree. >> Hi. How are you? >> Um doing all right. Um my name is Senior Officer Wilderman. I'm out here at the Love and Hugs daycare. You own this, correct? >> Um in France. >> What? Love and hugs in Fland Park. >> Yes. Mhm. >> Okay. So, we've had an incident where a child was able to get out through the uh I guess the yard gate where they go out to play. Um and we're getting some kind of conflicting statements on how far this child got and we need you to respond so that we can watch cameras. >> Okay. Um I'm not aware. I'm not there. Could you hold on for one second? >> Hello. Hello. >> Um, my daughter, Could I give you her number? Cuz she's there. >> I think that's the one that we've been talking to. Is she able to pull up that video for us? >> Um, I'm not I'm not sure. That's why. Um, maybe I need to go there. >> Um, it's it's pretty imperative that we do have you respond. >> Yes. >> If if you could go ahead and start making your way here, that would be great. >> Okay. All right. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. I don't know if this works. >> Oh, there we go. There. Come back in just for a moment here. I'm hungry. >> Yeah. You guys had to do Domino's dominoes today? >> Yes. You guys wanted some? >> No. No. Listen. >> You sure? We do. We have >> I got I got to work on my summer bod here. >> It's okay. >> Um is there um any chance that we can um I'll talk to her? work is um is there any chance that we could uh >> speak to um is it Haley? >> Oh, Haley. >> Yeah, Haley. >> Yeah, she in the back here. >> Yeah. Is there any way you could find some uh someone to cover her while we speak to her? >> Mhm. You want to talk about outside or in here? >> Um in here would probably be best for everyone cuz it's 180,000° outside. But it's it's up to you. Whatever works best for you. Okay. >> We don't want to disturb the children. [music] >> Stay out. We stay out there any longer, I'm going to fall asleep. >> A temperature change. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, long story short, you obviously know why we're here. >> Um, and we just need to gather up all the information uh to make sure we have all the facts, this, that, and the other. Do you mind if I ask you some questions? Yes. >> Okay. Yes. Yes. You It's okay to talk to you or it's not okay to talk to you? >> Yes, it's okay. >> Okay. All right. Um, so how long have you worked at Love and Hugs? >> I've been here since September 24th, 2024. >> September of 2024. So, you've you've been here for a minute. And you have all your your certificates that allow you to work around children? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. What what age group do you work with? >> Two-year-olds. >> Two-year-olds. Okay. So, we got a call today um long that a child may or may not have been found in the road. Um and when you came up to my car earlier and you know, you told me that you know you were going outside but you you didn't check the gate that you always do and um >> the one time I don't check it. >> The one time you don't check it, the the child got out. So, were you actively out there with other kids? >> Yeah. Yes, sir. Um, I was just like I was just taking my kids out. Um, there was two kids that didn't want to go into the gate. So, I was um getting them. Coral >> and all of a sudden I see the gate swing open and I I left my kids attended unattended for a second and I had to run out at some the lady um it was a black lady. I don't remember what car it was, but she did come um and help. She It was right here in the driveway. She grabbed him and I took him from um cuz that boy's fast. >> He has speed. >> Okay. >> Um and um I that's like >> that's >> I I I was like it's just shocking cuz the one time I do not check it happens. Okay. >> Is that is that policy or procedure or common procedure to check the gates when you let the kids out to make sure? Is that like a standard thing you guys do? Yes. >> Every time. Okay. >> It's a safety thing. >> Safety thing. Is there is there like some kind of safety plan or something that says >> um >> if not if >> I'm not sure. My boss probably has it. >> Okay. Gotcha. >> Um but I um I check it regardless. And like I said, the one day I don't check it, it happens. Okay. So, when you when you saw the gate run open or open up, you went after him. How >> like he went out the gate. How much longer did it take for you to get out the gate? Was it like >> probably like >> Was it like a Was it like 5 seconds? Was it like a minute? >> Probably about 5 seconds cuz I was at the front gate and then the gate he ran on it was the the back gate cuz I was in the gate where they enter the playground. That's where I was cuz I was trying to get the other two kids in the playground and then all of a sudden I just see that get um swing open and I it's a little bit good distance. So, but I I tried my best to get Well, I did get him, but the lady got to him first. >> The lady got to him first. The uh good Samaritan there. >> That boy got speed. >> Yeah. Okay. So, here's the here's the thing. You've told me what's happened from the point of you going outside to him getting out. You um seeing that instantaneously going after him. Uh retrieve the child, brought him back inside. Okay. Um, I'm going to the best way to put this is I'm going to allow you to be a little bit more truthful on what happened because this place right here is it Gold Key Roofing, they have cameras. You have cameras. So, I'm I'm going to allow you the opportunity one more time and just one more time only to explain to me good or bad exactly what happened and the the the time in between and how far he was because what what you're telling me right now. Do you you pick up when Yeah. Okay. >> I mean, yes, sir. >> Okay. So, >> so >> let let's let's let's start over. So, you took the one two year uh two-year-olds? >> Yes, I did. >> The two-year-olds outside. Okay. You saw the gate open up. Did you actually physically see the gate open up or did you look over and see that the gate was open? >> So, I was outside for a good probably like 2 minutes. Everyone was already in the gate and everything. Um I had um a little girl named Maya crying like cuz she's new so she's [music] trying to get >> So so last time like last time I seen him he was before I picked up the girl he was on a on a slide and it has a little basketball hoop. He was on the top he was on top and it looked like he was about to slide down. >> Um and then the little girl that's new um she was just screaming like screaming and I'm like when that happens I have to like make sure they're okay. So I picked her up and I put her put her on the bench that's right there trying to calm her down. And then all of a sudden I get a walkie a walkie um cuz like I said he was right there on the side like it was like not even two seconds. And then um I got a walkie thing say was in the um over there by the road. I said wait >> by the road or in the road? by either by the I don't remember exactly. She was either by the road. He was either by the road or he's he was like >> So the the radios I saw a couple of you have the radios right here. >> Yes, sir. >> So you got a radio from who? >> Oh no. Um I got a um Miss Shah told me >> Miss >> Yes. that he was out of the gate and um a lady bought him that. And when I heard that, I checked the gate. The gate was locked. It was locked. And the bottom of it, I don't know, he must have squeezed himself through it. I mean, I can show you guys outside if you want me to, but the top of it locked. It didn't open because I can tell cuz it makes a crack. So, I was like, there's no way he's outside. There's no way. And then, >> well, isn't that a little bit different than what you told me? cuz you told me that, you know, the one time you didn't check the gate, it was open. >> Yes, sir. It was different cuz I was doing my what my boss told me to say because she didn't want her she didn't want to get that center shut down. But what I'm telling you now is what exactly what happened. >> Okay. Were you under the care and custody? Was that child's uh And it's okay. Was that child under your care and custody? Yes. >> Okay. Was it your responsibility to protect that child from harm and keep him safe in accordance to, you know, just being a daycare in general? You know, parents drop off their kids knowing that they're going to be taken care of and safe. >> Yes, sir. >> Did Did that child was under your care and custody? Nobody else's. Correct. >> Nobody else's. >> Okay. Well, on that note, um we are going to place you under arrest for child neglect. Okay. cuz it's a it's a clear violation. And just look look at me. Look at me. [laughter] Look at me, ma'am. That child was found in the median the median of the highway. Come here. Go ahead and turn around. [laughter] might be more comfortable. >> Yeah. >> Oh my gosh. >> Listen, I know you're upset, but keep it down for the kids. [laughter] Keep it down for the kids. Please. Keep it down for the kids. Please. Keep it down for the kids. They're all out there sleeping. Listen, I'm not saying you're a bad person, but things happen sometimes, and this is something we can't look past. Okay? >> Now, [laughter] now look, now look at me. So, did they tell you to say that? And which one was it? >> [laughter] >> Which one was it? >> The first [laughter] The first story you I told was what I was told to say. >> Hold on. Try to collect yourself cuz I can't I can't understand you clearly. Which which of these people you said that someone said something to to the effect of they they told you to say this so you don't get the center shut down? >> Where's my pause? >> And which one is that? Sha. >> Huh? >> Sha. >> Sha. >> Sh. >> Okay. Is she here now? >> What? What is she wearing? >> She's [snorts] the one that's in the office. >> Is she wearing the black dress? Okay. >> She's about to [music] walked out in the house. Okay. Trying to keep the kids home. Okay. You want to let her know? [music] [music] You're about to walk someone out in handcuffs so bad. They're just trying to get the kids off. [music] >> Do you know where her purse and water bottle is? [music] >> I water. >> Yeah. 231 when we find it. [music] This is Haley's. [music] >> We'll come back and talk to you. Okay, >> please don't. >> We will come back and talk to you, okay? Give us just a few minutes so we can do this while they're sleeping. [music] >> I think that'll almost make it worse cuz that'll be creepy. >> Ma'am, please don't do that again. >> We'll be right back to talk to you guys, okay? I don't want to be scarier. >> Ma'am, please don't do that. >> Listen, I'm going to ask you to go with me. Okay, >> ma'am. Just take me. >> Well, we'll be back to talk to you. Okay, stay [music] there. Stay there. >> [music] >> The boss is very upset. [music] [music] >> [music] >> Careful. >> I know. It's It's believe it or not, it's the roomiest car we have. All right. All right. Make sure your foot's all the way in. I don't want to hit you at the door. You can see this guy within [bell]
