She fell off and like I guess I like tried to snatch her or something so I think the back of her head. >> She had a mark under her chin. >> Okay. >> Mark on her lip, her waist is all like purple. >> Is she breathing? >> No. >> Her pulse is really weak and they're worried about her not being able to pull through it. >> On November 4th, 2024, officers responded to a call at a family home in Goshen Township concerning a Expecting nothing more than a routine welfare check, they arrived believing it would be a quick in and out visit. Instead, they were confronted with one of the most disturbing cases of parental misconduct they had ever encountered. >> Is she breathing? >> No. >> What? >> I don't know. Granny >> You guys 919's are on the hospital. >> What's going on? What happened? >> I was feeding her. She was having complications with just like being comforted. So, I took her to go change her diaper. She fell off and like like I guess I like tried to snatch her or something so I think she hit the back of her head, but like I didn't catch her in time. So, I I don't know. I >> Okay. Who's here with you? >> Just me. >> Just here with you? >> Yeah, and my I have another >> Where's mom at? >> She's at work up in Dayton. >> Okay. Take us in and let us see where >> Yeah. I was changing her diaper and like >> Where was she sleeping? >> She wasn't sleeping. I was changing her diaper. >> How When did she wake up? >> Oh, I had them out there feeding. >> Okay. So, you brought her back in here and then what? >> Well, I started to change her diaper and then she was she didn't poop so I did the whole like belly press and then she got mad so then I was going to get her something else to like comfort her and dropped her passy so I picked it up and she like fell off cuz she had kept her legs like really tight cuz of the she they have acid reflux. And so she herself off. >> [snorts] >> And it was like too late before I could even do anything like I >> So, you're changing her diaper, she >> drops her passy. >> Yeah. I Well, she spits it out. >> Spits it out then what do you do? >> I'm trying to grab it so it it bounced off the bottom of here and it rolled over way. I turned around for a second she fell over. >> She fell over and what? >> Off the off of this. She fell off of this. >> And how did she fall? Did >> Yes, she fell. >> Okay. Then what happened? >> Well, I tried to >> I Okay. Then what happened? >> I picked her up and she wasn't like she was like gasping for air. So then I'm like and I'm trying to like get her and so I set her back on the back here and I'm trying to like wipe things up and clean things up and she's like I'm starting to see like this on her belly from where I guess her diaper had been and like she somehow her lip has got coming off of it and it's like how the hell did that you don't have teeth like I'm just freaking out. So then she starts changing colors, right? She starts turning white. So now I'm like freaking the out like what is going on? What did I just do? Is it my fault? What did the like what the is going on? So I I mean she was like not real breathing like consistently I noticed like she's I'm looking for like her ribs sucking or anything like that and she's not doing any of that. It's just like she's not breathing. >> How old is she? Okay. And when she hit the ground did she land on her back on her face or >> her back or head. Yeah. >> Okay. When officers arrived on the scene they were met by Andrew Cameron, the father of twins, who reported that his daughter Evelyn Cameron had suffered a serious medical emergency while under his care. From the way Andrew described the situation it seemed as though Evelyn's condition was the result of an unfortunate medical complication and that he had no involvement whatsoever. But as officers listened to his account they sensed that something wasn't adding up. Beneath his nervous shaky demeanor they suspected there was far more to the story than he was letting on. >> What was she doing before you were prior to changing her diaper? You guys were out there and you said that they had acid reflux. Was she Was she upset? Was she >> She's fussing and she's like and she's I so I'm trying to obviously soothe her. I'm trying to get her happy, right? So I picked her up and I brought her here just to I again change her diaper and everything like that and just go through the steps, right? She's just eaten. She just uh we're trying to get her to take a nap. Um all these other things that you do to like get a baby soothed, right? And she's not having it. So. >> Um Do what? >> Where did she fall from? >> Right here. >> Um What you need has Have you notified your wife? >> I just said I have emergency is all I all I said. Emergency. >> Okay. You need to um Is your neighbor going to take get the other ready and go to the hospital? >> she already there at the hospital? She's already gone. Okay, yeah. Critical, right? Yeah. >> So. B north. What time did your wife go to work? >> She leaves here out at like 3:30. She works [clears throat] at 4:30. >> Okay. >> The officers knew something sinister was at play, but they couldn't yet determine exactly what it was. But one thing was certain. Officers weren't leaving until they uncovered the truth behind the disturbing events that had unfolded. >> So, at when you picked her up off the ground >> She had a like she was she had a cut under her chin. >> Okay. >> Cut on her lip. Her waist is all like purple. >> And then you brought her out here? >> No, I was I was in there first. I was back in there first and then she asked me to go unlock the door so I came out here and I I just didn't think here because I wanted to be here by the door. Yeah, that's why she slept out here. >> Okay. All right. We're going to remain here outside. There's no other inside, correct? >> else. No one. This is all I got. >> We're going to remain here. Get to the hospital. We'll secure everything up for you. Okay? Um Just she's going to drive normal. They're probably already there. Okay? >> No, I understand. >> Go ahead. >> Like I understand like it's it's all like crazy and stuff like that, but like I got I messed up head so it I can kind of >> There's this stuff. >> After visiting Evelyn at the hospital, Andrew was brought to the police station for questioning as investigators worked to piece together what had happened. It was during this interview that a series of disturbing details began to come to light. >> How are things here? What what's going on? I'm I haven't gotten an update from anybody. >> Well, her pulse is really weak and they're worried about her not being able to pull through right now. >> Okay. >> So, it's not good. >> Not good. You know, I'm talking to you guys. >> It says it's just like >> I'm scared, man. I'm just so scared. >> So, this is a normal procedure with these types of situations, you know. >> I understand that, but I'm still just so scared. >> Okay. >> I'm so scared. >> So, why don't you tell me what happened? >> So, >> it was like I got them up. It was probably 30 and so I went in and put her pacifier in her mouth. That was probably about 5:45-ish. 45-ish. They usually usually get up a little bit before 6:00 and then I get up at 6:00 and you know, warm up milk and get them seated in their They have a little boppy thing which was on the ottoman right in front of the TV in my house. I don't know if you guys have to go over there. >> Uh I've not been in there. >> So, we set them in there and that way we can, you know, having twins is a little difficult to just do you know, I can't like hold both of the and feed on both at the same time. So, having things like the boppies and the pillows are able to they help me do that. So, I get them fed and um probably about like 6:20, I've got them like they're starting to fall asleep. I guess she's uh they're on a medicine called Premotadine. They're preemies and they're just they're not fully developed, right? So, >> Mhm. >> [snorts] >> she's been arching her back a lot because of that acid and um so she's not settled, so to sleep at 6:36 and I'm thinking like, you know, I I need to start getting ready. I have to go to work soon and I got to drop them off at my parents' house on my way to work. So I took her into the nursery. And I'm, you know, trying to get her ready. And um, I unzip her jumper and I put it up, you know, wrapped it up by her and um, I take her diaper off. There's pee in it, no poop. So I uh, kind of rubbed her legs a little bit and then kind of like put them gently on her stomach, see if that helped. And it did, she pooped. And then um, she started fussing, spit out her pacie and I it came off the the side of the um, the changing table and it bounced. So I turned around for a second and I guess in that time she did the whole arching thing cuz she's literally like launching towards the ground when I turned around. And it at that point like I pick her up and I'm soothing her and she stops crying as I'm like soothing her, but then she starts grunting and she's changing colors and so uh, that's kind of when I notice like I guess she's not like breathing the right way that she's supposed to be breathing, right? >> Now one would think it was a case of an drop. However, medical examinations had revealed that Evelyn's twin sister had several rib that were in the stage of healing. With that information, the officers knew that whatever happened to Evelyn wasn't but was inflicted on her intentionally. >> After this incident happens, do you feel like you may have shaken her or >> No, I don't I don't feel like I shook her. I really don't. I, like I said, it was bobbing, man. It's I don't want to I I love them so much. I legitimately care more I I said this the second that they were born. I knew them for a day and I'd do anything in the world for him. There's like I wouldn't even do that to somebody I've known 10 years. Yeah. And like obviously I mean if you needed help help or something like that like you needed a shirt or something I'd give you the shirt off my back but like I'm not going to loan you $10,000. But for these little there's something about him and I even told Danielle it's the weirdest feeling in the world knowing that you do anything for this this little thing. >> Yeah. Uh do you and Danielle fight? >> No. We argue about like finances and but we don't no. >> Okay. How often would you say that is? >> Maybe a couple times a month. >> Uh does it ever get physical? >> Never. >> Okay. Uh do you ever walls break stuff anything like that? >> I woke up one time with a night and I the door in my bedroom. I'm sure they saw that. >> I'm not sure. >> Okay. Well yeah I I that but no we don't we don't I don't have any violent >> How long ago was that? >> I don't know man. Uh Maybe like earlier this year like the beginning of the year like January. I don't even I couldn't even tell you. It it happened so long ago. This whole year has felt like it's been 10 years. I'm not going to lie to you this has been the longest year and the the roughest year of my entire life. >> Okay. Um but you didn't any walls or break anything this morning? >> No. >> Okay. What about last night? >> No. >> Okay. Um what about Danielle? >> No. >> Does she ever walls or break things when you guys get in an argument? >> No. >> Does she ever get physical with you? >> No she's real passive. >> Okay. So if you guys do get into an argument do you feel like you or her shut down or do you guys amp up? >> She shuts down. I ask questions. I'm very solution-oriented and I I just I I want to find an answer. I want to find an answer. I want to know how to fix this. How do I do How do I get to where this is going? She's kind of passive. She doesn't like to She doesn't want to say something to feelings or or she She doesn't want to say something and regret it or something like that. So, she's a little more passive. She shuts down a little bit. >> The officer continued pressing Andrew with questions trying to understand what had led to the repeated mistreatment of his children. According to medical personnel, Evelyn had suffered several serious injuries that required urgent medical attention. The severity of her condition and the nature of her injuries led investigators to take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding the incident. >> Is it possible that something else happened this morning that you're not telling us that goes along Evelyn falling out of her changing table? >> No, man. I told you everything. There's not another thing that I can think of that I I haven't told you. I I break it down by as much time by as much >> [snorts] >> So, they did send me a picture of the changing table. >> Yeah. >> And it's like concave in the middle. >> Mhm. >> Which, you know, >> That's what I was telling you. It's kind of like ramped, right? It's kind of got like a rounded edge to it like a half-pipe. >> Which makes me, you know, outside perspective, not anything you or anything, but I see that and I'm like, "That'd be weird." >> How does How does she get out of it? I I know what you're saying, man. And trust me, after what the doctor said, too, it's got me thinking and all these concerns and all these worries and all these things like that. I But they move She moves so much, right? She moves around tremendously. They both do. And like even setting her in there, like that's the changing table. She all over the place. They both do. They move so much. I I don't know. I don't I don't I don't know how. Okay. >> Um Is it possible that you dropped her and this this statement or this situation is just confirm like conformed into her falling off the this changing table? >> No. I I've never dropped them. I've never done anything that I I I don't feel comfortable holding them a lot. I'll be honest. I don't because they're so small, right? >> Yeah. >> I don't love holding them. I I I think it's terrifying. I'm absolutely petrified to hold these little >> And looking at the >> [clears throat] >> looking at this picture >> Mhm. >> um It doesn't really look like So, this is how it's set up, correct? >> Right. >> Okay. It doesn't look like it would even be possible to land in this little area, right? Like if you came off the side you'd think she probably would have landed out on the carpet. >> Yeah. So, show me, you know, where she where she was laying at here. >> Right here. Oops. On the hardwood. Right in here. >> Okay. >> So, where she her head was right here and she like I I again, like I heard her swooshing sound and then she's laying here on on her head. >> Okay. >> I don't know, man. I understand. It's I get it. It doesn't make any sense. And if you got to do whatever you got to do, I get it. >> No, it's it's not that's not the way that this works. I'm just trying to get a understanding, you know, exactly what happened. And obviously, you know, there is another side of me that says, "Hey, we could be sitting across from someone who who made a terrible mistake with their Uh and now we have a a duty to protect this other right? >> In the end, Andrew was put into custody where he faced 10 charges including aggravated Andrew was then taken to court where he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and obstructing justice.
