Stop. Stop. Stop. Put the car in park. Step out of the car. >> Again, this this is an opportunity only for you to help yourself. You're in as much as much trouble as you're possibly going to be in right now. You are. He's willing to let you take the entire blame for all that. >> On February 13th, 2025, officers from the Esham Police Department received a report that a man had attempted to scam a resident by falsely claiming the victim owed the government $40,000. [music] The suspect instructed the victim to withdraw the money so a courier could collect it from their home. Recognizing the scheme, the victim immediately contacted the police. After receiving the call, officers quickly discovered it was a fraud and set up an ambush, approaching the suspect in a way that left no room for escape. >> Stop. Stop. Stop. Put the car in park. Step out of the car. Cool. >> Just uh just hang tight. You get your ID on you? >> Yeah. >> Where's it at? >> It's in my pocket. >> Can you grab it? Do you have any weapons on you? >> Inside the car, officers encountered the scammer, 28-year-old Bre Shukla, who had made the call while impersonating an FBI agent. He was on his way to collect the money [music] from the victim, still believing that they had fallen for his scheme, but was stopped by police. As the officers approached, reality [music] began to sink in for Bridge, and he didn't even try to resist, fully aware of why he was being confronted. Scamming someone out of thousands of dollars had been a reckless act. And now officers were face to [music] face with him, ready to confront him about his sneaky plan. >> So if you have any questions, >> disregard that tag. It's going to be Delta 16 Uniform Hotel Juliet. >> So you have the right to remain silent. >> Bridge Pike. >> Anything you say can and will be used against you. >> Yes. >> You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present with you if you're being questioned. Do you understand that? >> Yes. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed at no cost to represent you before any question. Your friend might have a package. >> Not my friend, but his >> uh what were you supposed to do with this friend with this package at the front? >> Just drop them. >> Drop them where? >> I didn't do any better what he said. >> You didn't hear what he said or you didn't drop. I I I I he >> I told him that I can't go apart because >> What sort of business is he? >> There was a uh Tesla SUV with someone in it, but it wasn't >> scamming people. >> Scaming people, right? So, what is your our cut to the choice? I know you're involved. You're you're sort of the middleman grabbing the money. Okay. What is your benefit of doing this? How much is he paying now? I What do you say? >> So, you were standing to make $600 to $800 for picking up this friend. >> So, I know the picking up the friend is nonsense. You were here to pick up a package. So, where were you supposed to drop off? [snorts] >> Was it you that was here last night trying to find something? I'm not proud of my uh sometime but not last night. >> So, he did not ask me to stop by here last night. Again, just so you're clear, if you're lying, I'm going to get the location data from your cell phone and your car. Uh, I will know that. >> Yes, I will not. >> Your car here, is that your car? >> Do you own that car? >> Um, installments. >> How much do you pay for it? >> Installments. >> It could uh we could probably get some off, right? >> Um, so again, our Our plan here is we're going to impound that car and pull the um the infotainment system flex data. In IT, you probably maybe sort of understand this. I don't know what field of IT you work in. Um but your your car is essentially a cell phone, especially it looks like a newer model. They gather a ton of data. Um Chris here is actually one of our certified guys that extract all that data from cars. Um I forgot to ask what uh your cell phone. It's got a phone. What's the password? >> Bridge didn't know it at the time, but officers knew far more about his scheme than he realized, and they began to confront him, hoping to get the truth out of him. >> Is going through that cellment um to confirm anything you say here. And again, this this is an opportunity only for you to help yourself. You're in as much as much trouble as your poss going to be in right now as you are. Um, the more truth that you or truth you tell, the more favorable a prosecutor and judge ultimately looks at your situation. Um, so tell me how you first got in contact with your friends. What when did he call you, message you? How did this happen? He contacted me on WhatsApp place in call right now and said to whether I come I can come here and have the drop. I don't know where it was. All I know is that I'm not going fast. I have some How many times in the past have you done this one? >> When was that? It a lot of times as you said the ball is because it did me a lot of times every time I made up some excuse because even my mom personally when she found out something that happened the first time he was mad at me and asked me to stop that or he said that she was >> bridge's scheme went far deeper than what the victim believed. According to Bridge, the money was supposed to be sent to another man, and this wasn't the first time he had tried something like this. Fortunately, this time was different, and officers uncovered his reckless plan. >> Your mom said that to you, >> so she's aware of what this individual does. >> And can you explain exactly what this scam is saying? like I don't know the everything in this. >> So you may not know every detail about it but you know something about it. So I'm asking you what do you know about then I don't know. >> Okay. Um, I think what we're going to do here now, what what's his name? >> Your friend. >> Can you spell that? >> O H A I N. >> What's his last name? >> N S I N D H. >> And where in India does he live? where >> when was the last time you saw him in person? I don't remember but whenever last time I was coming maybe I came back in Jan. So in Jan before I came whenever I met my friends I >> how would you get this money? >> How would you get him this money? >> Uh as I said I was uh I was supposed to hand to someone else like drop some money. >> Where were you? Who is that person? >> I don't know. >> Just so you know that guy went like radio silent. So he's he's willing to let you take the entire blame for all this. So I know you said he's your friend. This dude is like, I'm out. Say it. And he's letting you take the he's not standing here with us right now. He's not detained. You are. You know what I mean? >> So just let you know he's he's letting you sort of take the the brunt of all this. At this point, the officers had heard enough of Bridg's version of events, and he was now on his way to face the consequences of his shameful actions. >> It should just have my mask or something in there, though. I don't know. I don't even remember. >> Okay. >> You have a driver's license, not only? >> No, I have it in my pocket. >> Okay. Two different IDs. >> I I I carry the ID and the make you surrender this. >> Huh? >> They didn't ask you to surrender this? No. Oh, I was just asking. Uh this with this key. >> Yeah. Go on this side of it. Just give me a second. Sorry. [clears throat] Just toss it on the floor. [snorts] What's that? [laughter] >> That's a diabetes, you know. [clears throat] My bad. I just don't want this to >> In the end, Bridge was charged with thirdderee attempted theft by deception. He was later released on a summon pending his first appearance in Burlington County Superior
