She thinks she's a toxic mother. I am. >> What happened with his head? She was throwing things and hit him in the head. What are you using? Cough ball. She was driving around in the RV with the kids drunk on her own. I was in rehab. How much did you drink? Uh two shots of vodka. He has a bump on his head. It's a lump. >> Yeah. Okay, and there's a cut. They need a bed to sleep and they need to be safe, not being driven around by a drunken mother. On February 24th, 2024, deputies from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office received a call from a grandmother reporting that she had just found her toddler grandson with a head injury. The situation grew more alarming when the woman revealed that the wound had been caused by her own daughter who had thrown an object at the child before fleeing in her RV, drunk and with the children still inside. Although the mother did her best to escape, the grandmother quickly tracked her down and found her in the parking lot of a McDonald's, relaying the location to the deputies who wasted no time responding, deeply concerned for the [music] safety of the children inside. Woah. Mark 23, our complaint is pulling in behind your vehicle. We need you to stay at large until you're approached. How many kids you got in there? Any other adults? No. No? No. Okay. Who is All right. Can you step out of the door? Actually, your actual complaint is taking place in the parking No. All right, that's fine. I'm going to leave my other shoe cuz my daughter got the other one. I'm sorry. My parents already know call the police. Yeah? Yeah. Cuz they want to say whatever I don't even want to talk about it cuz at this point who gives a rat's ass what They have enough money to buy this over with all they left me with this thing. Like if you were to look at all in this motel leave to raise my kids. That's what they left you to raise your kids? >> Yeah. The mother was identified as 31-year-old Sandra Marie Katrina Allen, who had recently been discharged from a rehabilitation facility only to later get behind the wheel drunk with all four of her children inside the vehicle. Sandra had been living in an RV provided by her parents, 60-year-old Krista Allen and 56-year-old James Allen. Despite her parents' efforts to give her and her children a safe place to stay, Sandra seemed to have a very different perspective on her circumstances. I mean, at least they left you something. They didn't leave you on the streets. How do we have electric? It's better than Like they told better to get a hotel. >> than It's got four walls and a roof, it's better than out here on the street. But it doesn't have electricity. Just cuz I run the generator doesn't work. Like they told better to get a hotel whenever they told me that when I would have a working home. That's why I got out of rehab. This This thing edges on fight. She has literally $900 from >> how that's their problem. She has $900 she just took from me. She sounds like she gave you the RV. Sounds like where's the permit? I don't have the title. You're driving it. You're responsible for that. Okay, well, for your information, I just moved in. Do you have an idea on your idea? Yeah, party for three. Why did she call the cops on you? Because I asked her to take my kids. Yeah? Yeah. She thinks you're intoxicated. I think that I am I am. And I asked her to take my kids because of that. Cuz I am an addict in recovery. No mercy. I'm not stupid. I asked her to my kids a thousand times before I even came to this. As far We got you over there at the McDonald's. How'd you get over there? I had my friend drop me. I'm involving him in anything that has to do with this. I ain't getting no names There's three of them. Sandra was visibly drunk and desperately trying to portray her parents as the villains. But despite her attempts to appear innocent, the deputies weren't buying her story. I mean, did you see what she tore up? Oh yeah, she was She's extremely ungrateful. She's She's saying, "Oh, you left me with this hunk of junk." But I said It wasn't like that. >> I said, "You know, it sounds like they gave you something." I said, "You should be appreciative." And she's she's really not. What does she What does she use? I guess alcohol. Okay. Did you see her drinking alcohol in the car? We suggested she would get her She done a 28-day program to get her You know, all the kids went with host families. So, she got kids back and she won't stop drinking. Okay. Was it alcohol before? Oh, yeah. Okay. Was it ever anything No, no She's my ex-mother-in-law, so I'm but Right. No, no hard drugs. Okay. And he talked to you about the kid and the injury on the kid and everything like that? Yeah. Okay. Does he need medical attention? I don't think so. He's tough. Okay. How you doing, buddy? You okay, buddy? >> You see You seeing straight and everything? You don't see straight anyway, do you? >> You got a headache or anything like that? No. No? You know, we were here earlier and we picked up some hangers and stuff. She blurred you. Right off the bat, I knew she was drinking. I'm like, I'm telling you, I'm not even going to argue with her about it. You really to see where her head's at. Um that's text from the last Katie. Yes. >> That's her name? Okay. Yes, from Well, her name is Sandra, but we go She goes by Katie. Um anyway, I just wanted you to read that cuz there's a lot of stuff in there. And this is all today? Yes, about in the last hour and a half. That's why we came. She says she'll kill herself. She says she'll kill us. The fourth day of having her. Wait, you said you you said you were intoxicated. What are you using? Drugs or alcohol? Alcohol. How much you drink? Uh two shots of fireball. How long ago was that? Three hours ago. But I haven't drank like cuz I got I was in rehab. I know, I'm talking like today within Yeah, I drank like >> Throughout today? Um 1:23 was whenever I took my shots. Okay. But I still don't feel comfortable driving with them in here. Why? Because I get all And that's why I was pulling over here in the park. You were parked over at the Dollar Tree? >> Yeah, I needed to get away from my parents. Do you have a phone on you? Um yeah, but it doesn't have service. Cuz my parents took that away. What the deputy found in the text messages exchanged between Sandra and Krista revealed just how troubled Sandra was. She claimed she would take not only her own life, but her parents too. And even though she knew the truth about what happened that day, she continued to shift the blame and point fingers at everyone but herself. Um I just needed to get away from my parents because I feel like my dad really tries to trigger me more with my alcoholism. And I had already relapsed. And I just didn't want that anymore. So, I'd rather have drove here, public parking lot where I can just sit. So, what happened? She has a horrible drinking problem. Uh-huh. We're trying to help everybody that we can. She just got out of rehab. Jessica, who is with Better Together, okay? And so, instead of going through CPS, Jessica find host parents to take the kids in for 2 months while she was in rehab. Okay, but then it ended because she was okay and she tested okay and whatever. So, she got the kids back. But, here and there, of course, she has issues, you know, like of course she gets drunk here and there, but usually it hasn't been this much of a problem. The cops get called, they get called. >> You want to come over here and sit? >> Yes. That's why they called you and told you to come here. I was already ready coming this way I told them to come. No, I got my dinner at McDonald's and you pulled over here. >> Yeah, cuz I was coming over here. There was one other time, but I didn't find out till afterwards, that she was driving around in the RV with the kids drunk on her ass. Okay, now after that I threw an absolute fit and I told her if it ever happens again, I was calling the police, I was calling CPS, this can't happen. We can't take the kids, they've already told us cuz we live in a 400 square foot RV. >> [clears throat] >> Okay, with four kids and us here guys. It don't work. We have I don't want to get in trouble. I don't want to lose my kids. >> Yes. Okay, I was just going to say Reagan told me to tell you There's no place for them to sleep, there's only one bedroom. So, they had an issue with all of that. What Krista described was only part of what was really happening inside the RV. The sleeping conditions were already terrible, but that was just the beginning. The entire space was buried in trash, so much that it was hard to even move around. Dirty diapers, leftover food, and countless items were scattered across the floor. Exposed electrical wires and extension cords hung throughout the RV, all within reach of the children. And it got worse. Officers found bottles of alcohol scattered everywhere, the same ones Sandra had been drinking from, left out in plain sight and easily accessible to the kids. The conditions she was subjecting her children to were deeply unsettling. It was so disturbing that even the grandparents felt compelled to report their own daughter to the police. Um so, so what happened at um today like at McDonald's or whatever happened today? I could tell she was drinking from all the text messages I showed officer so he could read them. Threatening herself, threatening us, just crazy stuff so I knew she was drinking. So, I came up with an excuse to find out where she was. That was to bring her a TV and a computer. So, she told me where she was. So, that's when we drove over here. And so, we go up to the door to give her the stuff. She's like, "I don't want the blah blah blah." And just was totally belligerent and crazy and whatever, you know. And so, all I wanted was my hangers, okay? Like, seriously, you know. So, I went in to go get my hangers and a salad bowl actually. And the place was just demolished. I I've never seen anything like that. I've never seen anything like it in my life. And this is how the kids are living? Mhm. No. Mhm. >> No. You know what? I hate the idea of this. I hate the idea of this, you know? And I'm so worried about that because you just have to be and she can't tell nothing to anybody. She can't tell anybody if something is wrong. I hate it, but I didn't got to keep them safe. I have an obligation to them to keep them safe. They need a home. They need a bed to sleep. And they need to be safe, not be driven around by the drunken mother. Mhm. So, did were you guys supposed to just meet at McDonald's? No, she was already parked here. >> Yes, and you came. And we came because um I could tell she was drinking. And I was worried about her driving with the kids. Yeah. So, I was worried about her driving with the kids cuz she did it that one time. So, I'm like, "Oh, no, we're not going to do that." So, we came with the TV and whatever as an excuse. Anyway, so then she's flipping out the whole time. She's throwing out the door. She threw the money out the door. And I said, "Honey, I don't need that much. I just wanted the 200 that you you told me you were going to give me." And um cuz I I can't tell thousands. Probably 10, 12,000 dollars in the last 6 months. I paid to put her up places. I can give you reports from Airbnb. Some lady is suing me on there for $2,000 damage to her RV. I found every place I could and she would I get drunk and mess it up. Sandra had received all the help her parents could give, but she continued making poor decisions after poor decisions, each time pushing the limits of what they could handle. It's just that type of situation, but she then she came out after us saying how, you know, she was going to, you know, kill us that she did, you know, we never did anything for her and all she knew was her family and nobody was there for her and I was like, "Okay, $12,000 doesn't say something?" She keeps thinking I can take her kids. I can't, number one, because I work my ass off. I'm a nurse. I work. Last week I worked 103 hours in one week. Okay? That's what I have to do to survive myself. She refuses to get a job. She refuses to help at all. I mean, I can't I have to work like that to help support her. But then she because I can't keep the kids. Well, I can't keep the kids and be at work at the same time. So, I I'm lost. I'm just lost. But she was burning us. Then I saw head. I'm like, "I'm going to call the So, what happened with his What happened with his head? She was, uh, you know, his mom was drunk and was throwing things around the RV like apparently she does once again, I don't know, but uh, that's what we heard from outside. And some He doesn't know what it was, but something hit him in the head. She wasn't like aiming at him. I asked. Uh, but she was throwing things that hit him in the head. Well, it doesn't matter because, you know what, he has a bump on his head. It's a lump, okay? And there's a cut, okay? So, I don't want to There's no excuse. After hearing every account of what happened that day, the deputies made their decision and unfortunately for Sandra, it wasn't the one she was hoping for. I know. Don't put your hands on me. Get up. Jessica, why am I being arrested? Why am I being >> lot of things. For what? DUI, child neglect, child abuse. Okay. Where is my child abuse? Release. No. >> Open your hands, Sandra. Whenever my son comes over here to get the money, I'll just get Jessica. Come grab this money. Please grab this money for my kids. Whenever Jessica gets Give the money to her. Can somebody grab the money for the kids? Relax. Just let go. I'll I'll Just let go of her. I'm on my attorney now. My pa- Yeah. But what am I being arrested for? I don't think you have a roadside attorney, so All right. If you do, that's great. I'm in trouble with the law. What? Cuz you had your three kids not not buckled in anywhere in that RV. >> no. They were supposed to be None of that. My parents told me to put them in. >> to. I understand that. So I listened to what they said and I'm in trouble? Someone tells you to murder somebody and you do it? They're my parents. You're an adult. If my mom tells me to murder somebody and I kill him, should I go to jail? That's not murder, ma'am. Like, come on. You're being >> It's an ex- It's an example. It's an example. You're dramatic. Dramatic. Like, come on. Don't lie to me. Am I really being arrested? If so, why? At this point, with Sandra inside the patrol car, the situation seemed to finally be under control, but Sandra was about to prove that if it were up to her, things wouldn't end smoothly. Do you want an ambulance to get called? Put your feet in the car now. I want an ambulance. No, you don't get one. Well, Not an ambulance in the world I'd put you in right now. >> Well, guess what?
