Step on out, Maria. >> Okay. Why am I having to step out? >> Cuz I'm going to arrest you for driving on a suspended license. >> Oh, I didn't know my license was suspended. [music] I still have my ID and I haven't been pulled over. >> Oh, you weren't today. >> I'm telling my sister my phone. Okay. My damn my What are you doing? >> Stop pulling. >> That [ __ ] is so [ __ ] dumb. >> On January 9th, 2025, an officer from the Lady Lake Police Department conducted a traffic stop after a driver was clocked going 60 mph in a 45 mph zone. As the officer attempted to identify the vehicle, he noticed the license plate was illegible and a system check revealed that the registration had expired. With those issues confirmed, the officer approached the vehicle only to discover that the driver carried far more problems than he had initially anticipated. >> Hi, morning. I stopped you for speed. Your tag's really unreadable and what what I can read is expired. >> Oh, really? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. I was just at work. I was coming right here to the house to grab something. Driver's license was at the back where your finger's at. >> No, they would. >> What's the other one? >> That's my ID. >> Can I see it? I just want to make sure it's the same one. >> They're the same. >> Okay, here you go. Give me a sec. Do you have any paperwork for the car? Match the tag? You taking this way to get all the way back to Leburg? >> What do you mean? I stay right here in the apartment. >> Okay. Just got an address that says Leburg. >> Okay. I stayed in the apartment. >> How long ago did you move here? >> I've been here about four years. >> How come you haven't changed the address on your license? >> Because I mean I really they my address is for my grandmother's. >> I get all my mail and stuff here. >> Change the address. If you're living here, you need to get the G address changed. >> The woman behind the wheel, identified as Maria Johnson, appeared to be collecting violations. [music] Her license had expired. The plate was illegible and the address listed on her license was completely inaccurate. Identifying the plate had already been difficult for the officer, but he soon realized that getting Maria to understand how serious the situation was would be even harder. >> Step on out, Marquia. >> Okay. Well, I might have to step out. >> Cuz I'm going to arrest you for driving on a suspended license. >> Oh, I didn't know my license was suspended. >> All right. State would let you know if you had your right address on your license. >> So, I'm going to go to jail because I don't have your license. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And I'm at work. So, they can't give me a citation or anything like that. And I didn't know that my license wasn't suspended. I still have my ID and I haven't been pulled over. >> You work today. >> You telling child you going to take me to jail. Like I don't understand. This is my first time being pulled over. So why do I have to Why am I going to jail? >> So it can't be the first time being pulled over cuz you got so many points in 18 months. >> Yeah, 18 months. But that doesn't mean in 18 months. It's my first time being >> We're not debating. How did the car put trans on your back? >> Hang up the phone. >> Crazy. Like >> so y'all not going to let me move the car into >> No, it's getting towed. Nissan, can y'all come get my car? Cuz he talking about it getting told. >> It's getting towed. No one's coming to pick it up. >> Hang up the phone. >> That's crazy. >> He said, "I can't pick it up." >> He said, "You can't pick it up. It's getting towed." For what? Like >> the tag. >> Registered. It's expired. >> Hang up the phone, please. >> And maybe I do have insurance, but maybe that's why I didn't get a notice that my license is getting suspended because I don't have my tag. >> Should I leave the the car the keys here? >> Just put it in. It'll be less damage on the vehicle if they tow it. They can put in neutral instead of dragging it. >> So, should I leave it here? My personal just the key. >> But my purse and my keys or everything is going to go with you. >> Go with you. >> I'm coming from >> Yeah, the car is um if you coming from Lee, just hurry up and come. You Why do you have to hang up my phone? >> Cuz I told you to hang up the phone. >> I'm telling my sister my phone. Okay. I put my damn hand. What are you doing? Stop pulling. >> I'm not pulling. Like what do you mean? >> Like cuz I had already so wrong. Like I'm not >> We're not treating you wrong. We give you ample opportunity to behave. >> Marquia's defensive tone made her recklessness clear. She questioned the officer's decisions and spoke to them as if she held some kind of authority when she clearly did not. Unfortunately for the officers on scene, her irritating behavior showed no signs of stopping. >> Now they want me to hang up, get in my phone and all of that. Like how you got to move your wrist. I just tell October the to I'm not what you I'm moving my mouth. I'm not even moving my wrist. What do you mean? >> You're trying to turn. >> How am I trying to turn my wrist? I'm not even moving. I'm moving my mouth and everything. You got my arms. How am I moving my wrist? >> Because you're going to turn your wrist. You're talking about I'm going to turn I'm not saying that the handcuffs are tough. I'm not even moving my wrist. Y'all being nasty as for no reason. >> Yes, you talk about I'm moving my wrist. You talking about I just did what you didn't want me. your hand like this instead of trying to turn >> like y'all just want a bonus or some [ __ ] Y'all could have gave me some citation like and why are you checking my car cuz I didn't give you no consent to check my car. >> You don't have to give me consent. >> Yes, I do. >> I'm inventorying your vehicle and grabbing your purse, right? >> I don't want my stand. >> It's not. It's going to the jail. >> Why going to the jail for what? >> Okay. Well, you did you get the wallet? Ma'am, do you have anything on you or any I need to know about? >> I took your pepper spray off. >> Okay. Hey, well, you can get my um keys to the car. Like, why would I leave the keys? No, I don't. I just came from work. I don't have anything on me. Like, what the [ __ ] And you can keep my wallet in here cuz if she needing bond me out of jail, then all my [ __ ] need to be in the car. Like, why would it go to the tow truck? >> tow truck. >> Okay. So, why Okay. If I'm going to get bonded out of jail, she could have all of that. And why are you checking my things? Like, I didn't give you permission to check any of my things. >> Yes, I do. Because what are you searching the car for? What you searching my car for? Spread your feet for me. >> Spread your feet for me. >> My My feet is spreaded. Y'all doing a weak ass. You touching on my part and all that. >> All right. When you get to the jail, if you have anything on you in you that's considered. >> What the you talking about? And that's nothing. You going in the damn curse doing all of that. >> At this point, Maria had escalated the situation to a completely unnecessary level. What could have been a simple encounter turned into an endless pathetic display of toughness as if her attitude alone could give her control of the situation. But whether she accepted it or not, the law had caught up with her and she had nowhere left to go. This ain't you got something. Don't got a damn thing doing all of that. Girl, you don't check me. You see I ain't got a mothering thing on. Like come on now. Being real. Check it if to the car. lame as stupid ass [ __ ] should have got you some before you came to work you would have been so ignorant on dumb ass [ __ ] what is you doing all of that for you >> I'm making sure you don't have anything in there >> I just told you I ain't got [ __ ] on me like you just doing anything for no reason so [ __ ] dumb >> I already I already have them on the Bird, you can work on your tow sheet. I'll inventory this. Check what those are first and you take off there to the jail. >> You going to put my phone back in my pocket side? >> Okay, we're going to go to the side of the vehicle. [ __ ] take a purse. The person can stay here. Mying house right there. Like what the [ __ ] >> Why are you sketching my things? Can you call the lieutenant, please? >> Supervisor's right there, ma'am. If you'd like to speak, >> I'm talking about the captain. >> Step inside for me. >> The captain? Where's the captain? Yeah, cuz I I need to go to the hospital. I feel like you guys uh hurt me. So, yeah. >> You can go to the hospital. >> All right. Call the captain. >> Call the captain. >> I don't got to answer this [ __ ] for you. >> All right. With Maria secured inside the vehicle, the situation was finally brought under control, at least from the officer's perspective. Maria, however, seemed to believe otherwise, continuing her behavior even while in custody. >> Are they going to get put back in there? >> No, cuz they're not in your name. >> What do you mean? They're not in my name. So, I have friends and I have people that stay with me. >> Okay, then they then they can come get their stuff. Y'all had to be acting like [ __ ] But they just got pulled over by Orlando police. They searched everything and didn't take anything. So what the y >> Okay. >> The holiday. What is that? I'm sure. >> Yeah. Go ahead. Yeah. I bet I won't go in there. Nothing but driving without a gas. Thought you had a driver without Wow. >> Captain, >> our supervisor's here. It's the other officer >> asked for a captain. You don't have no way. >> All right. Well, that's what we got. So, >> I'm asking for the captain. >> My supervisor is here. >> Okay. >> We don't have one of those. >> Oh, see I don't have one. >> No, we do not. >> Okay. >> We don't What are you? Lake County. >> Lake County. >> No, we don't. >> Wow. in November. >> What are you worth today? And your license is still suspended. >> Up until November when it was suspended for 18 points. >> Okay. >> What am I being arrested for? driving on a suspended license. >> Had I been had I been pulled over, they would have took my license. I still had my license. So, obviously, I didn't know nothing. >> Okay. Make sure you tell your defense attorney that. >> It's okay. It ain't going to be nothing. It's going to get thrown out. Like, I'm not a me. >> In the end, Maria was charged with driving on a suspended license and resisting arrest. She was booked into the Lake County Jail and later released after posting a $4,000 bond.
