Hey, sir. Sir, come here. Hey, STOP. >> Don't move. >> Stop me. >> STOP THE CAR. STOP THE CAR. GET OUT. >> I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. >> Get out of the car. >> You're being detained. Come here. >> I didn't do anything, sir. >> Just so you know, we got warrants from every county, bro. All right. I mean, we got Port St. Louis. On May 14th, 2024, officers from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a Best Buy in Vero Beach after receiving reports of a couple actively stealing inside the store. Upon arrival, they spoke with a store employee who had immediately contacted police after tracking the suspect's actions. >> She's inside. >> Okay. So, it's two people, if correct. >> Yeah, but she's in the white uh Cherokee right now. >> That's her over there. Yeah. Okay. So, now um apparently they stole from me last week. >> Yep. We have that video. >> Okay. Did you guys do you guys have a case report from that? >> I'm not sure if we do or not. I know we have video. >> I'm saying, did you know if someone maybe from your store reported that incident? >> Let me find out. >> Okay. >> At this point, one of the suspects casually walked out of the store with the merchandise in his hands that he had failed to purchase, as if nothing were a miss. But a pursuit was about to deliver a harsh reality check, one that would quickly expose just how fragile his carefully executed plan truly was. >> Hey, sir. Sir, come here. Don't do it. 1802 13 is running southbound. Hey, STOP. >> STOP. Don't move. Turn around. Turn around. I got good stomach. Chill out. Okay, good. >> You got him. >> Yeah, her glasses. Can I give her glasses? Nope. Her glasses, bro. Get in the car. Turn 180. Gun 105. STOP THE CAR. STOP THE CAR. GET OUT. >> I didn't do anything. >> Get out of the car. >> I didn't do anything. >> Get out of the car. >> What did I do, sir? >> Now, put in park and get out. Hands above your head. >> What did I do? >> You're being detained. Come here. I didn't do anything, son. I didn't do anything. >> Hey, what did I do? I didn't do anything. I didn't do anything. I didn't do anything, sir. I didn't do anything, sir. I do. >> Yep. >> I can't. >> I didn't do anything, sir. >> I didn't do anything, sir. >> You good, bud? >> Yeah, bro. >> What's going on, bro? >> I'm not your bro. I'm sorry. I forgot I was talking to you. Sorry. >> You pushed you on. >> We'll talk to you in a second. >> What's going on? >> Why'd you run? >> What you mean? >> Why'd you run? >> Why' you Why'd you chase me? >> I didn't chase you. You ran. >> Okay. >> Okay. Right. You going to play that game? Yeah. >> The couple, 32-year-old Danielle Marie Lini and 36-year-old Andrew Joseph Koza, had previously been detained in connection with a large-scale pattern of theft involving more than $20,000 in merchandise stolen from Best Buy locations across Miami Dade. This time, however, they wouldn't get away so easily. With the pair now in custody, officers turned their attention to the store's employees, ready to uncover just how extensive their operation really was. I think he he ditched that thing. >> Okay. >> Hey, I see it. >> Yeah, he ditched that thing. >> Ditched it. Perfect. >> Yeah, I saw him ditch it. That's why I started chasing after him. >> Yeah. >> Hey, guys. Hey. Oh, >> yeah, man. >> Yeah, they've been hitting Best Buy all over the state of Florida. >> Okay. You You want pull your car up? >> I can take pictures of this thing. They amazing, man. >> Her her car is right there open. >> Yeah. Holding and and Thomas, bro. >> Yeah. So, when I called him out, >> huh, >> I saw him come by in here. He dropped this from his his waistband. >> So, we have this. >> Perfect. >> Let me get >> How much are they? >> Uh 180th. But all in total across what he stole probably like 15 grand. >> Yeah, they took like 15 uh 12 grand. >> Okay. >> So >> we just so you know we got warrants from every county, bro. I mean we got >> Port St. Lucy. >> You got out. >> Hell yeah. >> Well, not so no not warrants but like bolos. We have an AP alert system. But yeah. >> Yeah. They've been looking for them for a lot a lot of places, man. >> Yo, thanks a lot, bro. >> Of course. >> Yes, sir. Thank you, man. You have no idea how much they've been taking from us. >> Seven grand, man, already. >> Yeah, we have the property here. Let's hold on to this though so we can document and stuff like that. >> And then we have the other video of and all the other stuff. He can show you that, too. >> He has put it like on a >> Yeah, we can put it on or something. >> I thought Wesley >> he's doing it right now. >> Thank you, man. Um, >> so as I I was talking to you, he was walking out. >> Yeah. >> He went behind that blue truck and I was calling him out like, "Hey, come here." And then he takes out his waistband and dumps it on the floor and then he takes off. God damn it. >> I know. I saw I saw, man, you just don't know how happy this team is. >> They got us for seven grand, man. And now between this store 1,600 between all across the other stores in Florida about 16 grand 17 grand. >> Okay. >> So >> well glad we called us in time. Thanks guys. Um >> I'll see what you guys have out here. But yeah, hold on to that for us and then if you can work on that video. >> Yeah, I'll get the original one that I I had. >> Okay, perfect. >> I'm probably going to need to store you some >> and it might be one from today because obviously >> Yeah, you know, so we can get today's. >> He was in my bl Obviously he did take it, but he was in my blind spot when he pocketed it. So, I can't see him pocketing it. >> Okay. >> But we called him based off of just because of what he's done and she's done to the store in the past. >> So, today though, did you guys see him concealing items today? >> Yeah, I saw him tried to conceal. >> Okay, perfect. Um, so we'll get a probably get statement from you. >> Um, from what you saw, even if it's not on video or not specifically, but at least you seen that statement from you >> and he walked out >> and obviously I got all that, too. But again, just anything that can concrete that case. Okay. >> Oh, that's going to be easy. Relief washed over the store's employees as they thanked the officers for finally putting an end to an ongoing theft that had caused loss after loss. Stopping a scheme like this was no small victory. As the situation inside the store began to settle, officers stepped away to question one of the suspects, Danielle, about her side of the story. But she wasn't about to admit her involvement so easily. >> What's your first name? >> Danielle. >> Spell it. >> D. I just want to know D. >> I just want to know what I'm being detained for. >> Huh? >> What am I being >> You're being detained. Just what? >> You're good. >> For what? Both of you. Come on. We watched you throw your stuff, so we already got you and you're involved with it, too. So, what's your first name? >> I don't I didn't do anything. >> Okay. Put your Put your legs back in there. I'm towing your car, too. >> Put your leg back in the car. >> Can I please? >> How we doing? >> Not so good. >> Why am I detained? >> Listen, I'm just going to read your rights. Okay. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can or will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have a lawyer present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before questioning. If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you still have the right to stop answering at any time and speak with a lawyer. You may use any of these rights at any time during this interview. Do you understand the rights I just read to you? >> All right. Yes, >> sir. Okay. Just I'm going to talk to you up front. Okay. >> Just >> I have my glasses in my hand. I'm legally blind. So, can you just switch them out, >> please? We'll go this way. >> Yeah. Mhm. >> You don't have to hold me like that. I've never been in trouble in my life. >> You understand the rights I just read to you? >> Yeah. >> All right. So, what what what happened? >> Nothing. I just went into the store and I didn't do anything. >> What's that? >> I went into the store. I didn't I didn't do anything. I didn't take anything. So, I don't really know why I'm insane. >> Okay. >> Like, I didn't take anything. >> So, who was what what happened with him? I have no idea. All I see is the guys banging on my >> ID. >> Um, the pink bag. >> What's your name? >> Danielle. >> Spell that for me. >> D is in Daniel. A is in Alex. N is in Nancy. I is in Indigo. E is an elephant. L as in Lisa. L is in Lisa. E is in elephant. Last name. >> Yo, a middle name? >> Marie. M as in Mary. >> Common spelling. >> Yeah. >> M A R I E. >> Correct, sir. >> What's your last name? >> Lini. L is in Lisa. O is in orange. R is in Rachel. I is in Indigo. N is in Nancy. I is in Indigo. >> All right. So So what what did what happened? >> I didn't do anything. >> Let's start from the beginning of >> I just went into the store and that's it. I didn't do anything. I didn't take anything. I don't understand why I'm being detained right now. >> Okay. >> I didn't do anything. Danielle's performance wasn't nearly as convincing as she seemed to believe. The fake tears and poor me act failed to sway anyone, and officers continued pressing her for answers as she clung to the idea that twisting the facts might somehow change reality. >> Um, where you guys from? >> I'm from Lauder, right? >> Okay. So, listen to me. Was it Danielle? >> Yeah. >> Ju just just be honest with me because it might just be if we just get him. >> Okay. >> And I you might be helpful. So, what has been going on? Where have you guys been going to? Because we talked to them. They have a a communication with a lot of different different Best Buys >> and they have been tracking you guys for months. >> I don't Okay. >> I don't know what it is. >> So, what is all the stuff in the back of the the the rental card or >> the back? >> Yeah. That that curig thing. Is that yours? It's >> mine. >> Okay. Did you pay for it? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you have a receipt for it? >> No. >> Okay. So, am I not going to ask another agency that has that the same one stolen and they're going to tell me that it's not stolen? >> You sure about that? Because they have records of all those all the serial numbers on those things are all tracked. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, do you what did you which car did you pay for it with? >> Paid it with cash. >> Pay with cash. Okay. >> But it was a while ago. >> Okay. How long ago? >> Like probably 3 weeks ago. And it's not >> Where's it from? >> From Best Buy. Where is it from? >> Uh, like a marshal. Marshall. >> Despite her efforts, Danielle was beginning to face the harsh reality that her story was falling apart. While one officer remained with her, others turned their attention to the witnesses, carefully working to piece together exactly what had unfolded inside the store that day. >> How you doing, sir? >> Um, >> my manager that's exporting the video, okay, >> cuz we can't figure it out on our system right now cuz it's a newer system. We're all not familiar with it. He's going to pull the video tomorrow. Is that okay? >> That should be fine. Okay. And you witnessed this happen? Um, so I saw him grab something from the shelf. >> Okay. >> Um, he went over to appliances. I have clear video of him trying to take the spider wrap, the security device off of it. He took it off, put it on a bay stack near vacuum cleaners and went to go tuck it and then he walked out and that's when uh, Sergeant >> Yeah, Sergeant Dwayne, I think his name was um, but that's when he ran and he tackled him. He dropped it right there near under the tire of a handicap car that was parked up there. Um, yeah. >> What was the female's part in all this? What was she doing inside the store? >> Long story short, they stole about $1,700 from us about 2 weeks ago. And we have a system called Our or AP Alert. They've hit multiple Best Buy all throughout the state of Florida. It's about 167 grand of just random product. Everything from Dyson Air Wraps to audio equipment. >> Do you have them on video with those? >> Not on those ones. So, my GM is getting in contact with our higher up AP manager to like I guess communicate with you guys. But as far as like what happened at this store, my manager tomorrow is going to pull video film of it for you guys tomorrow. >> Okay. >> But they have done things in a lot of other stores, >> but nothing that's on video as of now. >> There's probably video recording of it. We just don't have access to it cuz it's not our store. >> But there is probably video recording of it somewhere. >> Okay. So, you said you supposed to you saw inside the store, correct? >> So, what happened was is the lady walked in. I was actually >> walking out to leave for the day and I recognized the car cuz last time they hit us, they parked my my white F-150 over there. They parked next to me and I was leaving for the day and I saw her get out of the Cherokee with the same white or pink Hello Kitty bag that she did as last time with and that's why I went back in the store and got on the phone with another man like, "Hey, she's back in the building." She came in first, didn't take anything. I'm assuming was scoping things out that she wanted him to take cuz that's kind of been the general consensus. When they were in here last time together, she pointed at things and then that's when he grabbed it. Um, and then she went back to the car. Then he came in and then that's when everything happened. >> Okay. >> 2212. At this point, officers were able to review the footage, revealing the story the couple had been trying to hide. It wasn't their first time at the store, and the pattern was unmistakable. On April 30th of that same year, the couple was seen inside the store concealing merchandise. In the footage, Danielle is shown selecting items and placing them into her pink bag. Then, on May 14th, additional footage captured Andrew taking an item valued at $179.99 and walking out of the store with it in hand. With this evidence in place, officers prepared to confront the couple once more. Now armed with proof that left no room for escape. >> All right, man. I'm going to read you your rights. Okay. >> Yeah. >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can, will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have your lawyers present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before questioning. If you decide to answer any questions down without a lawyer present, you still have the right to stop answering at any time and speak with the lawyer. You may use any of these rights at any time during this interview. You understand? Right. I just read to you. >> Yeah. I just >> You understand? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. >> What um what happened all inside there? What? >> I don't want to talk. >> You don't want to talk? >> No. >> Okay. >> What's your name? >> Daniel. >> Daniel. Hi. I'm Corporation Sheriff's Office. >> All right. So, I want to give you a chance to explain a little bit about what happened today. >> Okay. >> I want to clear clarify things for you cuz I know you look a little confused and >> I'm just really confused. >> Yes, ma'am. Um just to clarify cuz I didn't hear what you said. He read your rights. Do you understand? Reason you have to read your rights is cuz you're in handcuffs. You understand that? And you want to talk so I can explain everything to you real quick? >> All right. So, let me explain a couple things to you. First of all, who owns the Jeep right here? >> It's a rental. >> It's a rental Jeep. Okay. Uh, who rents it? You or the >> And who is is he boyfriend, friend, husband? >> Boyfriend. Okay. Um, who drove here today? >> Okay. Where was he sitting at in the vehicle? >> Front, I assume. Well, he's on camera coming out the front. So, >> I mean, that's what I'm getting. So, do you do you use Okay. What kind of do you use? >> And what about him? >> Have you used any today? >> Yeah. >> By this point, another troubling detail had already caught the officer's attention. Danielle was under the influence of narcotics, raising concerns that substance usage may have been driving the couple's behavior. The questioning continued as officers sought to understand the full scope of their actions. >> Now, listen. We're going to have a female search you. Is there anything on you person right now? >> No, nothing. >> Okay. Is there any in the vehicle? There's a there's a guy out there >> gentleman asked >> what's that pill? >> The gentleman asked me. >> Okay. So, in the passenger door there's a baggie with a white powdery substance. What is that in the passenger door in the front of the vehicle? >> Powdery substance. >> Yeah, it's like a white powdery substance. >> It's supposed to be like but it's nothing. It's like some Chinese. >> Okay. Is that yours? His? >> It's not mine anyway. >> Okay. But you know exactly what it is. Were you Were you going to both use it? >> I don't know. I used to. >> But how do you know what it is then? If you weren't going to use it cuz you literally just told me exactly what it was. >> Well, you ask me what it is, I'm telling you what it is. I know what it is. >> But it's not yours. >> No. >> What's on the passenger side? That's why I'm giving you I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. >> I'm driving. >> Okay. Uh, were you at this store 2 weeks ago? >> No, I was at the store like over a month ago. >> April 30th. >> April 30th. >> Yes, we have you on camera in this store. You're wearing a face mask. You had that same little pink bag. You were with him. You don't remember being here on April 30th on camera. It's about 2 weeks ago. So, this is the this is where I'm giving you a chance to be honest. I mean, if you have me on camera, though, because >> I mean, I'm asking I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, cuz right now on video on April 30th, we have both of you together concealing merchandise in that store valued over $1,000. Okay. Was it your idea? Was it his idea? >> Can I ride through the obviously? See, there's nothing. This is not my idea. Okay. But on video, you are in concert concealing the merchandise. Like, is this the first time we've ever done something like this? Okay. Did he pressure you to do this? I'm going to be honest with you. You two are suspects in numerous Best Buy burglaries throughout the entire state of Florida on video at numerous stores. So to sit here and tell me that this is the first time you've done it. >> I didn't say I didn't answer you. >> Okay. I'm just letting you know you're on video for numerous different agencies. You're suspects and they have charges on both. You just didn't know who you were. Why are you going around the state of Florida stealing stuff from all these Best Buy? >> You know, that's that's a a big problem, right? Like, are you are you stealing for your drug habit or what? Okay, so you steal from your >> At this point, the pieces were finally coming together. Officers began to realize that the couple's repeated thefts weren't random at all, but likely driven by an ongoing narcotics habit, one powerful enough to push them deeper into criminal behavior. Their run, however, had reached its breaking point, and a search of their vehicle would soon confirm exactly what officers had suspected. Is this like a list of stuff from your perspective? >> These are all things that I think they sell on online. >> She's got Target. >> She's got another Burlington Hobby Lobby. We're going to take seasonless. >> They got they got stuff here too in this other one too. Same type of >> Yeah, we're we're going to take this. So with this take this here. Bring this down. You got a knife. Yep. See if we can break a piece off of that. I think it's Looks like it's 3.8. >> What are those pills? >> Just tested positive for >> With the couple now in custody and the evidence secured, it was time for them to be arrested and face the harsh consequences of their actions. >> They had a lot going on down there with that pursuit. >> You guys something? Yeah. >> Sorry, I can't hear you. >> Uh, so as of right now, it's grand theft, uh, misdemeanor theft as well, the possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest. Yes, sir. Once we're there, it'd be easier. We we he can explain everything to you there. Okay. In the end, Danielle and Andrew were arrested and are now facing charges that include grand theft, petty theft, possession of narcotics, and resisting an officer without violence.
