We just happened to notice something black at the ceiling. >> Definitely look like a, you know, like a little mini cam. >> It was poked through right here. I could just barely see it. >> Just paranoid, you know, and I got a little one here. So, it's like >> Oh, yeah. >> I'm not okay with this at all. I changed in here like three times since before we found it. >> That's crazy. I've never seen a camera like that. >> On February 19th, 2024, deputies in Hocking County responded to a disturbing call from a man staying with his wife and children in a rented Airbnb cabin in Hocking Hills. As the couple prepared a bath, the woman noticed something strange hidden in the ceiling. Taking a closer look, she realized it was a camera and the recording light was still on, but when officers arrived at the cabin and began investigating, the situation became far more unsettling with more creepy details discovered. >> Hey. >> I'm Alyssa. It's nice to meet you. >> Deputy McMahon, Hocking. >> How's it going? >> Good. How about you? >> I'm pretty good. I'm Zach. >> I'm not sure if >> Deputy McMahon, Hocking. >> Yeah, we got to go ahead and look. >> Yeah, I was about to say. So, we went out to eat last night. We went to gas station and got and came back here. He We adults got into the hot tub. I went down there and was changing in the bathroom and he went in there and he walked in there to go pee and just happened to notice something black at the ceiling and when he reached up there and picked it up, he thought, you know, he was like, "That looks like a camera." So, he hollered for me and I went walking in there. And as I pulled it down, I'm like I mean, it definitely looked like a, you know, like a little mini cam. So, we pulled the drop ceiling or whatever. We pulled that back and as soon as I like it's all linked connected like I don't know. >> I don't know. It's kind of >> She talked about it. >> We can go show you. >> The couple realized that simply describing what they had found wouldn't be enough. So, they led the officers directly into the bathroom. The moment investigators spotted the hidden camera mounted in the ceiling, it became instantly clear that this was far beyond an ordinary invasion of privacy. >> And I noticed you that it was a cordless extension cord or I just found it here. >> Yeah, occasionally here cuz I was tracking it down after that. So, I come in here and I was peeing. And it was poked through right here. You can just barely see it. And I said, "What the heck is that?" And I popped it. I mean, you get up there and check it out. We end up unhooking it. >> Yeah, I did unhook it cuz it was green and flashing like it was on. So, I was like, "Are you serious?" We stood on it a couple times, too. >> But, you never know. >> I don't know. >> Yeah, we've kind of been freaked out, man, like that. >> Yeah. And if you look there to the left of the extension cord that was running to the backside of my computer, it was running but it ran through. >> Yeah, that that little piece right there was just barely I could barely see it. And I said, "What the heck is that?" And I popped that little tile and I pulled it up. And uh >> And then that green or the box the black box that was attached to it, it was lighting up green and like flashing like it was actively working. >> That That That looks like a lens. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, then that brought me to Now, I know I'm probably just paranoid, you know, and I got a little one here. So, it's like I'm not a character at all. So, I pulled it up online and I found it's called a Nano. And I mean, that's the exact same thing as what that is up there. >> Listening to the wife describe the moment she sensed something was wrong as if someone had been silently watching them while they were undressed in the bathroom sent a chill through the room. It wasn't something the couple were mentally prepared for when they drove hours for a hiking holiday. But, that wasn't even the worst of it all. What was revealed next made the whole situation more chilling. >> Um do you Do you any information about who owns the cabins or was it through a company? >> and it shows that it's something um That was it. >> Come on, kid. >> And I got to looking on there and it's specifically like there's other hosts that can review you know, host owners and whatnot. People keep saying and his girlfriend were great hosts or great um guests. >> I know there's a couple of uh companies that kind of yeah. Somebody owns it, they have nothing to do with it. Some of them and some of them they actually do it themselves. I don't >> Right. >> Yeah, I don't know which >> I kept looking at like last night. Here Here's like let's just sleep it off and call it, you know, this night. I'm like I can't I can't sleep in this place now. So, I started Googling and whatnot and I checked out their reviews on Airbnb and people kept commenting saying and his girlfriend won't make sense because this this trying to turn on the Netflix on the TV last night and it came up saying that you know, the Netflix account was not within the household and it said is this and have at gmail.com. And I think whoever is like running it here is >> Okay. >> I don't >> I don't have access to any more information that book upstairs >> You want to talk? >> Do you want us to >> I did send What's his name? >> Yeah, that was Lieutenant. Um >> I've got like more than enough photos on here and I did email him some of them but now the Wi-Fi is down here, so I don't >> Yeah, cuz he was uh home to dispatch to see exactly if maybe we were probably sure if we can just take it since >> Right. >> So, he's thinking about maybe getting a warrant so that we can just go ahead and remove it but >> Right. >> I believe he'll have to go through that process of getting a warrant since it does >> What freaks me out, too, that I mean we have a 4-year-old here with us, but the last two reviews that was literally just this past week or yeah, this past weekend of people that was here. Both of them had listed that they had children with them and I'm like that's >> We've got an actual picture of it up in here. >> The cabin, Sly Fox Lodge, was owned by a man named Jason Yard and had been rented by many families in the past who were oblivious to the fact that their privacy had been wrongfully invaded. At that point, it was only right to search the entire cabin for more cameras. >> We looked them up online. They're $230 online. >> She had it in her hair pin, I was peeing, she had >> I changed in here like three times since before we found it. >> We've been searching all over since we found that out last night. >> I don't know how those work. That's crazy. I never seen a camera like that. I mean, did she show you the thing she found on there? >> What? >> She showed me earlier like looked it up and it looked exactly like it's a mini nano cam. That's crazy. It's got Look, you want to go click click? I'm just saying there's an extension cord running over. >> I'm just saying. >> Okay. Did she show you where >> Is this connected to like something green? Like a green extension? >> Yeah. Yeah. It's over there. It's on the wall right there. >> Yeah, I mean there's a little antenna there on that electrical tape. >> Uh-huh. >> I mean Like I said, you can see a reflection of >> That's crazy. >> That is That's crazy. Well, so some of our some agencies have like a detector. >> Yeah. >> They can like find cameras. I'm not sure if we have one. That'd be something I'd have to ask a detective. I'm not going to hit you up with that. >> I was just going to say that. >> Um okay. Is there >> Is this from a long >> I don't think so. >> It just says in the book in there. I mean, I know you're not having cameras in bathrooms or anything. There's one There's camera out back, upstairs, and downstairs. >> Yes. >> You know, whatever. That's fine, but inside a where we're at >> Yeah, no. That's that's no. >> That's how we used to be. We were kind of like we were clear out and then we got there. Crazy. >> No, I mean I I completely understand. I completely understand. >> We were kind of like it'd be on, you know, even calmer like man, I don't but >> No, you definitely should. Yeah, >> And there's just so much jacked up stuff going on in this world and that's just it needs to be stopped. >> That's That's Yeah, that's bad. >> I don't care if they see my wife naked but whatever but my son and you know, you know how you understand. >> Oh, I completely understand that. Yep. Is that the main bedroom or the main bedroom? >> Yeah. >> Bro, were you already looking at it? There's another room like that, but it's locked again. So >> Yeah, like I said, I think this is supposed to be locked but it looks like barely cracked. >> Whoever was cleaning that didn't with you. >> I don't know. When you booked this, did it say like there was laundry? Cuz there's They got washer and dryer in here. Like was it included? >> I don't think so. >> So like if they pulled it out that ribbon there is coming through here. The lens is cooking through that corner right there. There's a hole there. They said it was kind of angled so that it would have been pointing at the shower. You see the extension cord running over from the wall over to here. See the plug there they unplugged it. >> Yeah. >> Um Yeah, you see all the antenna? There's a box there. Like they said splashing green and then the wire was running out over there. There's a piece of electric tape there, too. And that's where it was. But yeah. >> Even after thoroughly checking the cabin and confirming there were no other hidden cameras, the couple still couldn't shake the terrifying feeling that they were being watched. The experience had left behind a lingering fear, one that wouldn't simply disappear overnight but would take time to heal from. >> That determines the There's >> Yeah. >> A, B, C, and D sections of voyeurism and if there's a minor involved >> Yeah. >> That bumps it up quite a bit. >> in there and then I changed in there two or three times. Yeah, you used the bathroom, he went in there and used the bathroom. That was like us initially figuring it out. I was at plugged in cuz I unplugged it cuz it was green and lightened up so I snatched it out of the thing. Unplugged it. Phone that I found it online. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a camera so >> What you been up to? Did you guys go hiking or what? >> Yeah, we was going to today, but we ended up >> It took a turn. >> Yeah, I imagine. >> So we've been playing in the hot tub, playing some foosball. >> Okay. It's a holiday today so nobody's in there except for us. >> Yeah. >> So I'll call the detective and he's got to get the warrant signed and he's got to take it to the judge to have it signed. Once that's done, he'll be here in a Him and I will collect that. >> Okay. >> Uh it just takes a little bit of time cuz nobody was here cuz it's a holiday. >> For sure. Yeah, I understand. >> Nobody here said anything and I'm like, oh my god, I didn't even think about it being President's Day. >> Yeah, well >> Do you want us to hang out till >> Uh maybe upstairs? >> Yeah. Yeah, for sure. >> I don't know if he told you I said it's cooled off and everything. He's got a kid. I don't care if you know you're in here or whatever. You just obviously don't touch anything else or whatever. >> Yeah, yeah, we'll go upstairs. >> Given the disturbing amount of footage the owner had allegedly recorded of the family, officers knew this was not a case the law would treat lightly. The camera itself pointed to something far too serious for leniency. >> I think I don't think you probably file a complaint with them. Certainly you should be able to do that. Um I'd hold off on that until we're done. >> That's We were saying that hesitantly cuz I'm like >> Yeah. >> Do we go ahead and contact them and then I tell him cuz I'm like, if it is the owner, I don't want them to know before you guys know." >> Yeah. >> So. >> Um when the detective gets here, this lieutenant detective, when he gets here, um >> Okay. >> we'll ask him about it, but ultimately, yeah, even especially before we get it, like acquired or anything, I wouldn't do anything with it. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Um probably after we've gathered everything and you guys go home, you could probably >> Yeah, and tell them about it. It'd be awful for him. >> Yeah. >> before we even have to do anything because I am not I >> Yeah. >> We don't want that one here. If that one for him would be >> Well, there's that, and then if you do file a claim now, they they'll probably rush over here, then we got to deal with them. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why we were surprised. I'm like, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything from them now. Well, you know, they got two different cameras. >> Yeah. >> They can see >> You said 11:00? >> Yeah. Yeah, check out from 11:00. >> And we might end up running into cleaning ladies cleaning ladies or something. Just >> Did they have the date I was saying they leave contact or anything here? >> This is the name of the That's the housekeeper. But I've got I gave them the number and stuff to this place. >> I see. He gave me a phone number and email. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, I got it. >> And I guess they're just a booking agency kind of so I don't know. >> They say that, but I was showing him maybe I'm crazy to even say this, but I've been looking into it myself. And Look, whenever we pull the thing up itself, it's not 14, it's like people like was great during the stay. This is like other people that's wrote about. >> That's a couple years ago. >> Yeah. That was 2013. Someone else said and then he tried to turn on Netflix and it came up and it said, "We noticed that this isn't a you know, that you're in home location or whatever and it said, is this and it said @gmail.com. >> Incorrect. >> Is there a connection with that, you know? I don't know. >> Uh can't remember. Um I looked up parcel number up on site to see who owned the actual property. It was a Lauren and can't remember the male's name. Might have So, what I don't have it in front of me, but >> Yeah. >> Considering how long the hidden camera appeared to have been installed in the bathroom, investigators feared that the family may not have been the only victims. Over the years, dozens of unsuspecting guests could have unknowingly been recorded. >> And these other reviews, it looks like you know, there's been other people who stayed in January 2024 and one was a week ago and both of them have stayed with kids. So, I'm like I don't know. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. I just as a mother, that's disgusting. >> Judge is reviewing the search warrant now, so he'll either say fix this, this and that or he'll sign off on it and then we we're good. >> Speaking of serious, like I said, when we first seen it, I'm like, are we being crazy? Is this really not a camera? And then you know, you see the lens on it and then as soon as I lift it up, that tile and see that it was duct taped up there, I'm like, oh my god. >> Yeah. What's creepy. I'm I was looking up it was like calm something like that, but I was trying to figure out which rental cabin it was. We do a lot of rental cabins a lot, but is like the I noticed in the bathroom where that drop down small cutout is, it was pulled up >> Yeah. >> there or half off. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, every one of them is good. It's creepy. >> Yeah, they're creepy. >> I mean, honestly, we don't have a lot of problems like that around here. >> Yeah. >> But uh yeah, a lot of the I mean, we have some stuff every now and then as far as Well, honestly, a lot of stuff we have is from rental cabins and stuff. People come from all over. >> Yeah. >> Detroit, cross country, and they come here and they >> Yeah. >> They're partying down. >> Yeah. >> Doing stupid stuff like >> Yeah. >> Yeah, we seen that at the Speedway. And then we get here last night and we're finally like, "Okay, we're away from all the crazy things." You know, we get all and start to kind of relax and he goes in the bathroom and we're like, "Oh my god, this trip was bad from the get-go." Yeah, we just didn't get out. >> I hate that for y'all. >> We've had good experiences every other time we've come here down this way. >> Yeah, this is the first It's just a bad experience. >> That's one tour out every place in the Smokies, you know, not everybody's >> Yeah, but then after you see how many different mini cams people can Oh, that's They could be anywhere, literally anything. A screw in a charger, it's insane. And I wouldn't be able to do anything. >> No, I don't believe I mean, they're not allowed in here at all until we execute that. >> on his little listing online, he has uh $500 fine if you tamper with his cameras. So, I was like, "Oh, did you mention all the freaking cameras you got up in here?" >> Does he have any out front? >> Just these two is the only visible ones that we know >> Well, see, I saw the one up in the >> yeah, but not the one >> Fortunately, officers were eventually granted a warrant to seize the hidden camera. But what they discovered after reviewing its contents made the case even more horrifying. Officers quickly realized this family was far from the only victims. The camera allegedly contained recordings of 49 adults and 13 children who had unknowingly been captured on camera. >> There he is. >> Then just the one or do we have more? >> I looked. There's a ring camera down at the the other door, the basement door. >> Okay. >> There's one right there. >> Got you. >> Uh those are the exposed >> cameras. >> I looked around the hot tub and stuff, I couldn't find anything. Uh they looked all around the house after finding the first one and didn't see anything. I'm going to grab something. >> I guess we'll go down and see if we can't follow the trail in the basement. >> Yeah, these stairs suck. >> Yeah, they're spiral stairs. >> Spiral, they're big enough I mean my shoulders and stuff won't even Ah, sounds like a good time. >> We can unlock the basement door if you want. >> Is it locked or we don't know? >> It's not locked. We can go down there, I don't care. >> All right. We'll unlock the basement door in case Neither one of us are very small, so >> Eventually, Jason was arrested and sent to court where he ridiculously claimed that his original intent of installing the camera was to add additional security to the rental property. Ultimately, he was sentenced to jail for four to six years. He was also registered as a tier two sex offender for the next 25 years checking in every six months and will remain under five years of post-release control.
