The victim was 19-year-old Brooke Devenney who had been living for months with her troubled boyfriend, 23-year-old Devin Blair. For over 10 minutes the officers fought to bring her back performing CPR again and again hoping she would survive her injuries. And while they were working at the scene, dispatch received a call that would soon become important to the case. 911, what's the address of your emergency? Uh well, uh my address is 4 And what's going on? Uh well, I was sitting in my garage drinking my coffee, smoking a cigarette and it's pretty quiet community here. And this one guy came walking by. Well, he was walking pretty fast and he kept on looking behind him and I I asked him, "Are you all right, buddy?" He goes, "Yeah, I'm just going to find him." He looked behind him a few times and kept on walking. Now, this community here is like like a bunch of retirees. I don't know if you got to look at for someone like that. I think he might have been in the backyard here. He's back northbound. Well, they just wanted to make sure he wasn't going to make it back to that car. If we can keep an eye on this whole road in case he doubles back. After receiving the call, the officer tried to locate Devon, but he was nowhere to be found. Back at the scene, the officers began questioning the family trying to understand what had unfolded just minutes earlier. 17 and that might have come turned up here. So, what you guys see? She wasn't responding. Um I broke into her room uh but opening it with a credit card. Uh all I found was her wrapped up in her sheets and a blanket on the bed. I woke my dad up and then where we are. a couple more dumb questions real quick. Did you notice anything any injuries on her that you could see? I know it was I know it was difficult. You see any blood I mean, I'm still covered in her blood. Okay. Do you have any idea of where it came from at all? Um she might have gotten a better look. She tried CPR. >> Did you hear any gunshots? According to Brooke's brother, 23-year-old Brandon DeVinnie, Brooke and Devon were constantly arguing, but the reality was far worse. Their relationship had a history of violence and her family was well aware of it. The most serious The happened on December 28th, 2023. As Brooke tried to leave for an appointment, Devon stopped her, forced her to remove the clothes he had bought her, and left her in the street. When she ran to the garage, he followed, smashed her windshield, grabbed a knife, dragged her inside by her hair, assaulted her, and threatened to take her life. He was charged and pleaded guilty, but was released on a $10,000 bond. At the time, the judge said, "I'm taking a chance. Don't disappoint me." But, Devon didn't take those words seriously. Hell of a thing. Yeah, absolutely. Do you want to go get him into a bathroom or something like that so he's not open? >> I just don't want anybody to see. No, no, we're not going to mess with him. So, he was saying he heard them kind of fighting and arguing. Do you What all? There was no noise. And he went in and out of the bathroom when he came downstairs, checked around, went back upstairs, went back in the room. And that was all that all before you called or right when you called? That was before. I don't know, after I called. So, you called during the actual fighting? I messaged so that way he doesn't run because Oh, yeah, yeah, the text thing. No, that's perfect. That The quieter the better sometimes. Um >> She's so warm. They're in there working on her. And now we got our ambulance coming, so He's made multiple threats. He's had multiple charges. His name is Devon Marcus Blair. He is 24 to 25 years old. Black with black hoodie, black shorts, black orange shorts and black hoodie with a black backpack on. She was wrapped in multiple layers of a towel, a black and a sheet. Her face is busted up, and she looks very pale to the face. Bruises and cuts in multiple parts of her body and her womb are a disaster. I tried doing compressions on her. But I didn't feel much of a pulse. We have a 28. But her body's still warm. Then then we're going to keep working on her and we're going to keep trying. Oh my god. At least he's found and he needs to be [ __ ] DRIVER THAT HURT HER. OH. She's my sister-in-law. She was pregnant. She was at least 4 months pregnant. Oh jeez. Brooke's sister-in-law, Michelle Cassandra, was clearly devastated by the tragedy, especially knowing the disturbing history of assaults Brooke had suffered before that day. Just 3 days earlier, Brooke, who was 14 weeks pregnant, ran on foot to a Columbus police station. She flagged down an officer in the parking lot, visibly injured, reporting that Devon had attacked her in her car during an argument. According to her, Devon told her not to get off at a certain exit. When she did, he assaulted her in the eye and repeatedly hurt her in the head. After the incident, Brooke allegedly told her mother, "Mom, once he finds out what I did, he's going to kill me." Fearing how Devon would react after learning she had reported him to the police. And unfortunately, she was right. But despite the constant nightmare Brooke was living through, decisive help never came. And now, the outcome of Devon's rage had unfolded in the most unsettling way. Uh stay on that side of the tape. Okay. >> house. That's my daughter. >> Okay, I need you stay on this side of tape. At this point, Brooke's mother, Billie Devaney, arrived at the scene, witnessing her daughter and unborn grandson clinging to life. Your mom. They closed circle. And they run drive. Can you tell him to come here or something? Okay. He Right now we have to hold on to him cuz he's technically a witness to this. Yeah, whatever we can do we'll give you an idea. Hey bud, I'm going to have you come over here and talk to your Yeah, so there's no sense going to Towne Park Way cuz he was seen after that. I'm going to have her go to the hospital with her sister, okay? Okay. All right, guys. I can't let you in the scene right now. They're still processing everything. Oh, she's at Grant? >> they did transport her, yes. Passed away. I Like I said, I just got here. I'm just here to watch this area. Okay, then. That's something that I don't know about, sir, but While some officers secured the scene, others spread out through the neighborhood searching for Devin at every possible corner. They tracked his last known path through backyards and over fences, piecing together where he might have gone. One neighbor reported that his gate, normally left unlocked, had been locked that morning, suggesting Devon had passed through the property. And after more than 5 hours of searching, they finally found him. Get down. Oh, there he is. GET ON THE GROUND. HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. I'M ON THE BACK DOOR. What's your name? Devon. Devon. Hudson. The autopsy later revealed that she died from asphyxia due to neck compression and blunt force trauma to the the At that point, there was nothing anyone could do to save Brooke, but her attacker was finally no longer free.
