Do you Do you mind if I just get a quick statement from you about what happened when uh he came inside? >> Can I just be honest with you? >> Yes, ma'am. >> I just want to stay out of it because it This been going on all week. >> Okay. So, you don't want to be involved in this? >> want to be real with you. It's like they was fighting. I have no control of that. >> On October 3rd, 2021, officers with the Atlanta Police Department were called to an [music] apartment complex on Oakland Drive Southwest after a dispute between neighbors turned into a full-blown apartment complex episode. Earlier that morning, Alonzo [music] Wilkinson told police that his neighbor, Willie Williams, had punched out the front window of his apartment. A report had already been started for that damage. But later that afternoon, the two men crossed [music] paths again. According to Wilkinson, Willie came into his apartment through the open front door. Wilkinson [music] said Willie had a metal pipe and swung it at him during a fight, leaving him with an injury to his [music] forehead. Willie told officers a completely different story. He said he only went over there to get a back massager [music] that he believed Wilkinson had taken from his roommate. Now, how a back massager became the centerpiece [music] of a neighborhood dispute is beyond me, but it definitely did not bring anybody relief that day. Willie admitted the two got [music] into a struggle over it, but said he was unarmed and ran out after Wilkinson bit and scratched him. And while officers [music] were trying to figure out what happened inside apartment M4, witnesses said Wilkinson had gone behind Willie's apartment [music] and smashed out two of their windows with a metal object. So, now police had broken windows on both sides, two [music] injured men, two completely different stories, and a pipe sitting inside the apartment. Maybe it was a love triangle [music] gone wrong. I don't know. This whole situation was weird and chaotic. I don't know what the hell was going [music] on here. It had me scratching my head. Let's get into it. Body cam on. >> Hello. >> Uh probably like >> Atlanta Police Officer Rutherford, what's going on today? >> Yeah, he busted the window. >> Who is? >> Look, this guy look, this is our second time >> Where's the guy at? >> texts on here where he's threatened a terrorist threat. >> the guy at? >> He's back here. He He in the window. >> The one in the window. >> Does he still have a pole on him? All right, hold on. Atlanta Police, how you doing? >> Fine. YEAH, THAT'S HIM. >> WHAT'S GOING ON, MAN? WHAT'S going on? >> I see you. >> Okay, hold on a second. What's going on? Wait, what's going on, brother? >> They busted my window and Mr. William Roberts came in. >> He's a squatter. >> He come in and broke in. >> sit on the couch for a second. >> He's a squatter. >> Okay, hold on. >> Just hold on a second. You got to learn to respect the rules >> Hold on a second. >> and handle your business. Stop trying to pull that >> Brother, brother, can you talk to me? I don't Don't even worry about them for a second. Just talk to me from here right now. What What? >> Sir >> Jones, can you talk to them? What time about? >> Let me get the police report. >> You No, you don't need You don't need to just If you Do you mind coming down here and talking to me in the door so I can >> I don't mind talking to you here because I'm getting a >> Are there other people inside with you? Is everyone okay? >> he's chasing her. >> Is there anybody else that's hurt or injured inside? >> He didn't hurt her. She was on the stairs. I had to fight him to get him out of here, and I got it all on tape. >> Okay. >> I don't understand why he thought coming to my homeboy's door and trying to hit me with a pole was enough. >> Okay. So, I'm confused. >> Why are you confused? >> Cuz there's a lot of stuff that is going on and I'm it's just No, I'm I'm going to talk to you first, but it's hard It's hard for me to talk to you when you're all the way up there, also. I'd rather just talk to you face-to-face, to be honest with you, and see exactly what happened. Cuz you're saying that they This This is broken a couple hours ago, and you said someone else's door that you know got kicked in? And that happened When did that happen? I had to fight him off. >> He hit me, and then he >> Why Why'd you have to fight him? >> Because he tried to hit me with a pole. >> He tried to hit you with a pole? Where's the pole now? >> The pole Is it Is it inside? You think 24? Yeah. Mr. Lukeson. Okay, so they said that Yeah, they said so. He called first this time and he said this guy was taking away the pole. And they said And there's a light over there. Kitchen light. Okay, give give me give me give me 1 second. Mr. Lukeson. Hey hey, okay. So, what's >> I am Jaden. She's looking for the dog. We have a puppy in there. She's looking for the dog. The dog got scared and went under the couch. I asked the police before. We just had today. >> What's all this on me? >> I It just was on the floor. It was He knocked things over when we were fighting. >> Okay. >> This is This is too much. I'm telling you I'm telling you right now as an adult, this is getting out of hand. I want you to look at the report and I want you to >> Do you have your driver's license so I can figure out who I'm talking >> I need you to look at the paper first. I'm going to get my stuff cuz you see I didn't have it on me. >> I got you. >> Okay. Sir, while you're doing that, I would like you to protect and serve and look at that window. >> I see the window is broken. >> that does know the law, so I want you to be very aware that whatever you got going on, please make sure you're protecting the person that called the police. I'm just trying I got to ask you the question. Yeah, if you don't mind just for a second, okay? So, just to get to get what you're saying happened, I'm just trying to make sure I got it right, okay? >> Can you start getting a pen? This is getting ridiculous. >> Everything's being recorded. >> matter. I'm asking you as a civil duty. Can you please get a pen? You have to. >> What do I need a pen for? >> I'm asking you as a civil duty. >> I have a pen right here. >> Okay, if you need to write on something, that's what I'm asking. >> I don't need to write anything down right now. So, what you're saying happened is that earlier today this I guess it's your neighbor, who this person who this guy is? What did you say his name was again? >> William Roberts. >> William Roberts, okay. So, William Roberts came over here and busted in your windows, is what you said? >> Let's focus on the telephone call that I made right now. That is him coming in the door. I know, I I see the case number. >> with you. They came last night and they tried to undermine me this past time. >> By asking you what happened before you called 911? >> And I told them that and they didn't write things down and they thought I was misconstruing people and they start laughing and >> No one's laughing, sir. I'm I'm trying to investigate what happened today. Okay. Yes, sir, I am. So, you said Sir, no one's undermining you. I'm trying to investigate the I'm trying to investigate what happened. That's fine. I understand. That's You can feel however way you want. Okay. But I'm trying to to figure out what happened and I'm restating it to you so we can clarify it. Okay. So, earlier today you said William Roberts, who I'm assuming is your neighbor, is that correct? >> Yeah, M1. >> M1? He says in M1? Okay, got you. >> The the the the first one to lose is Bruce Stagner. That's the white man coming out with the baby. >> Okay, I got you. So, >> I do have video tape. >> Can you can you hit before you show me the video tape, can you talk can you talk about what happened? Can you talk about what happened? So, he Mr. Roberts came over here and he busted in your window. Were you there when that happened? >> Yes, I was standing by the kitchen. >> You were standing by the kitchen. Okay. And so, you called the police at that time or did something else happen before the police >> called the police right then. >> Okay. So, what happened when the police showed up? >> They asked questions and they didn't do anything with me. >> They gave you police with that with that case? Officer McKenzie did? And what did he tell you tell you about the incident incident with the window? What did he say to you? >> I did a police report later. >> Okay, but he didn't say anything about your neighbor or anything like that? Okay. So, after after the officer left, what happened? >> It was quiet for a long time. >> Okay. And then what happened? >> Uh she cleaning up over here a little bit so she can get away to leave. This room is still being cleaned up. I'm doing the laundry over here. I do all the laundry in this front area and in the kitchen area. The kitchen area. As a man >> I'm I'm a police officer with the Atlanta Police Department. >> That's not safe enough for me. I don't trust that. >> Okay. So, how am I supposed to help you if you won't give me any information about what's going on and you won't let me talk to the person who witnessed it? >> I won't >> I can't I can't I can't investigate criminal criminal actions if the people who witnessed criminal actions won't tell me what happened. >> Do you know what you are saying? >> So, I'm I'm confused as what you want What do you want from me right now? >> I'm not confused. Look at that right here, on tape. If you wondering why we just had the guy in the car in the backseat, it's because they changed the law about a month or two ago. It makes it it's difficult for us to do something. >> And as I said, I have no idea why he attacked the other guy. I have no idea what he did. Police brought him here this morning. I talked to him and he didn't want to talk to me. He didn't have anything to say. We talked to him and then he went back in there. Started doing whatever he was doing. Started making this walk. The old man came out and he stole doors, security doors on there. So people can't be kicking in doors and Cuz I was going to tell him as I said with those businesses out here once I talked to whoever management is on it. You should tell them this is they just sold this place and they don't even have You can't get a hold of anyone. They They're They're just going You know, people used to flip houses and now the thing is flip apartment complexes and that's what they're doing. They're putting a new sweat on them. They're holding the thing. They're not They're not making any real changes. Make it look good and then they're going to flip it and sell it. I was going to I was going to tell him like this cuz I can't prove what we were talking about because we don't have that information. And uh You know, since Sunday even if even if they were here, they wouldn't have access to them cuz I found some anyway. Uh whenever you don't work department, that's vacant. Just a matter of time before the department is affected and we win for both. But now we're going to address what he's made on my phone and plus the damage that he did with the eyewitness. I mean, that's that's got you know I don't know what to do. It seemed like that was coming busting out somebody's guns and going about his business. What I said, all kind of destruction done. So he's going to bop me and then smack me, he's going to kick my ass, all this and that there, you know, you know. I just took it as he was off mentally. And he is a smooth talker, I know that. He is He is real. Smooth talker, he'll lie to you, try to uh just come up with stuff as he goes. He just said something earlier. That didn't really work. I'm innocent. Maybe he's going to be just crazy or something, I don't know. He's talking stuff. I yelled at him, you know, in the house. I thought I was going to get stuck, so I smoked something. I asked him about bringing it back. He went on this long rant saying that I disrespected him. >> Notification for Black Mountain. >> Hey! >> An apartment in Mississippi, anyone? >> I don't know what to do with it. I think I think he's going to go. >> for a second. >> Let's stop. Let's stop. Stop it. Good job. Oh, [ __ ] >> So, I just need you to keep an eye on him for a second. He's in the custody. I'm going to advise him and he told me that he went in the apartment and they got in a fight inside the apartment. He has a wound to his shoulder. And I got the ambulance on the way for Um, but So, you were saying that the other guy went in the apartment and busted the windows. So, I need to we need to get him in custody, too. But, we don't have anyone to watch the car. So, And my my back camera don't work. So, can we put him in your car and turn the camera on and then we'll come For the back for the back camera on me? Cuz my back camera don't work. And then we'll go and and then we'll we'll detain him. Um, so, yeah. >> All right. >> So, he's secured right now. The door is locked. The car is on. I got the thing and let's let's detain this the other guy, Alonzo, the So, I'm going to get him to come out. Not not this second. If I need you, I'll come to your door, though, okay? Thank you, ma'am. Give me one second, you guys. He's just detained right now, okay? Huh? I got the the fob. Mr. Wilkinson. Hey, I got him in custody, okay? From from saying. Put your hands together like you pray. What's wrong with your wrist right there? What's wrong with your wrist right there? >> Yeah, cuts. >> A cut? Is that a new Is that a new cut or is that a Did that happen in this when you were fighting? I got you. Hold on, one second. So, you said that was the pipe that he used when he came in? Okay. Can you grab that pipe off the ground or walk with me this way? >> grab it? >> No, no, no. Not you. Walk with me this way. Appreciate it, man. It's the the black one. 3401 radio. All right, so just take a seat for me and I'll talk with you in just a moment, okay? >> Thank you. >> Can you get all the way in, please? I'll take a seat. >> Okay. >> So, basically day watch was out here earlier in reference to the guy in the back of my car going over and smashing the window of this dude right here. >> Mhm. >> When they came out, they did a 17, no arrest made or whatever. So, it escalated, of course. This guy went back over there, apparently followed his friend as he was leaving the apartment, and they got into a fight inside. He has a knot on the head. He has a apparently a wound on his shoulder. >> It's not domestic, though. >> Huh? >> Is it domestic? >> Not domestic. He said he wanted to press charges though already um before he was detained and everything like that. >> Okay. >> And the the lease holder of the apartment with the busted window says he wants to press charges against him for busting his window. So apparently after that fight, he came out with the pole and he busted in the windows of M1. So he's going to be going for uh What are you going to charge him with? >> Is it less than 500? Two windows. >> What are you going to charge him with? >> You could do >> Or DC what what if we'll see. >> Sounds like DC property damage. >> Okay. And then uh uh simple battery or battery for him cuz he has a knot on his head. Um >> So they fight? >> Yeah, they fought inside the apartment. >> I mean What's the difference? >> I hear you. Uh my only my only reason why I usually do state is because if we do DC, typically we'll be back out here within however many however many hours. >> And that differs that differs from state half. >> State at least it takes longer. >> How much longer? >> And and the charges won't get dropped in 2 seconds by the state. It just stands up better in my opinion. Um that's why I typically I don't ever really charge people with charges typically. Uh >> State charges, you get a little for a lot of work. And DC charges, you get a little for a little work. So it's just a waste. I If if it's DV, we got to do the >> Yeah, of course. >> the the battery and the state stuff, but I mean we're we're so short today. Let's just do the >> killed right now. >> I mean we're still doing our job. We're still taking them to jail. Just do the DC. Just call it a day. I mean as long as we don't have any felonies, there's really no need to go state. It's just the criminal tr- It's just DC property damage. That's it. >> And then uh disorderly conduct fighting. >> DC fighting. And what you got? >> It doesn't matter even though it's it's the apartment. Over here wasn't outside on >> They fought each other. >> Should be all right. >> [music] >> All right, so let me >> Go ahead, Duncan. Okay. >> So, I got her as the third party witness for him. >> Duncan, I don't need to know the whole story. What what you need? >> So, I'm I'm still not going to read him his rights cuz he got to go to the hospital. >> It's a shoplifting call. Do you Do they want a report or no? >> I'm going to read him his rights real fast to see if he wants to talk to me. If he doesn't, then we're just going to go. Um, but he already >> Tell Tell them to call you back whenever they ascertain what's taken. Cuz we can't We We're not going to write a report. >> All right, sir. All right, sir. So, I'm going to read you your rights. Okay, like I stated. Okay. Give me 1 second. I got to grab my card and I'm going to read you your rights and then we're going to go from there. Okay? Right now, yes, you are going to be under arrest. Okay? Um, right now it's probably just going to be for disorderly conduct. Okay? But, I want to talk to you or our criminal trespass. Okay? I'll explain to you why if you want to talk to me about it, but give me just a moment. All right? He did He did go into his apartment to fight, I suppose. Sir, are you okay? >> I mean, my shoulder >> I got an ambulance coming for you right now. Um >> I mean, I'm going to jail, man. >> Yes, sir, you are going to be going to jail today. >> Why? >> For For fighting with him. >> I never I didn't fight him. >> You went into his apartment. Okay? >> his apartment. And he's not even registered to that apartment. >> you, but you guys were still fighting in there. Okay? >> I wasn't fighting. I didn't fight I didn't even touch him. >> Okay. >> You probably did that man is crazy. That man is mentally ill. He probably did that him so >> give me Just give me a second. Okay, it's probably just going to be a city charge. All right? So, you'll be out tonight. Okay? But just I Listen, y'all >> Come on, man. Please. I have to come out Look at this. You can look at my show name. Look at that. Tell me >> I'm going to look at it. I'm going to look at Exactly. We were just going to keep coming out here. Can you roll this back down? >> Yeah, roll the window down if you want. I mean, if you want to do your your statement, I mean >> That's why it's it's just cuz I know it's going to be constant. And >> Well, it's not the time. It's It's more the the inside the home. >> Yeah. Cuz he he's he's saying he went into his apartment. So, I thought >> Yes, sir. >> That you had permission to what? Inside the M4 where you're at? Okay, that's fine. Um So, let me let me read you this and if you want to talk to me, we can talk. All right? So, Mr. Wilkinson, all right? You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be used in court as evidence against you. You are entitled to have a lawyer now and have him present now or anytime during your questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you without cost and he may be present at all times during your questioning. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Okay? Mr. Wilkinson, do you understand these rights? Okay, do you wish to speak with me at this time without a lawyer? Okay. You can get get Yeah, you can get it get Tell this officer your information and and we'll be right with you. Is that the owner of that apartment, Mr. Jessie? >> Yes, he's out there. >> Okay. >> What What about charging the one person with the state? >> So and then one person DC? >> Yeah, and then have him >> that's probably what's going to happen. >> Let's have Jones fill out the ticket for you, make the transport, put him in city. >> And then I'll put him with the the battery. >> Yeah, let's do that. >> Copy that. >> Kill two birds with one stone, get out of >> Copy that. >> I'm sorry. What what I specifically wanted to talk to you about is what happened after the fight. Okay, I understand the fight happened. I see the knot on your head. That's why he is where he is right now. Okay. But let's be honest about what occurred after that. Okay? And how and how that pole got inside your apartment. That's what he hit you Okay. Right now, let me explain to you, okay? Right now, the only witness you have is Miss Hill, and she doesn't want to talk to us. Okay? So I all I have is I see your injury, okay? And I and he admit and he admitted to being in your apartment. That's why I'm making an arrest right now, cuz I understand how serious this can get. About What were they dating? Were they just messing around? What happened? What happened? Just be real with me. Mhm. Okay. So he So he he was going after her? And you were defending her? And did she call the police when that happened? She has her own police report for for him kicking her door at a different time? Of course. I understand that. And he's And he's in And he's in custody right now. I But I I get that. I When you when you experience a lot of trauma, I understand why people can be very upset about it. >> Last name, ma'am? I'm sorry. >> I need I need a statement from her about what happened today. That's what I need. And I'm going to I'm going to ask her when I bring her back the ID and the case number and see if she'll talk to me then. Okay. Of course, I understand that. I get that. I got you. Let me Let's pivot back to to to what what's going on now. Okay, so explain to me exactly what happened. Don't leave anything out. Okay, cuz they got their own videos and stuff like that about what happened after you came out after the initial fight that you had with him, okay? What happened after you came out? >> I saw my I saw my phone. >> Yes, sir. >> I don't I don't know if he came in from the apartment and I fight. >> Okay. So >> Yeah, and I did We put it together with her. >> How did How did the pole end up in your apartment? And and then he left without it? >> that when he came in he pointed the He's pointing at my ear. It was his right hand. >> Mhm. >> And I got away so I missed the first hit. But I did catch the second hit. And I I did as much as I could to defend myself. >> If you got If you got hit with that pole, I feel like your injury would be a I'm being 100% honest. Cuz that's You don't You got a small bump on your head. That doesn't Cuz that's a hefty pole. I mean >> I didn't I didn't get a I didn't get a full It wasn't a full >> Okay. >> I would have went to the hospital. >> Yeah, I know. But >> trauma, but I would I tell you like it was a graze, but I was moving. I was like, I can't believe he came in and I'm like I I I said She was I'm go get her phone. There's a dog in there. It's just all kind of like know everything there. And I'm just like, I can't remember what I can't remember. >> I got you. So so let's let's go back. Okay, cuz you're still you're still not telling me the whole truth about a certain part of the events that happened today. Okay? After he left your apartment >> I went back in my apartment. >> I know you went back in eventually, but before you went back in, what happened? >> I I I tried >> got other people that saw what happened and got videos. Okay? So I already know the answer to the question. But I need you to be real with me. That that means a lot. Okay? Well, honesty means a lot right now. It means a lot right now. That could be the difference between state charges, city charges, or no charges. Okay? So what happened when you came out? Yes. Okay. So you How did the windows get broken on the apartment anyway? How did they get broken? >> I I know that I documented my window getting broken. >> Okay. How did their windows get broken? >> No windows are broken. >> Mhm. >> Which ones? >> In the front and in the back. And I got people that saw you doing it. So you going to keep Are we going to keep playing this game, man? I'm trying to be real with you. I'm not Have I any point during this Have I been Have I Have I been bullshitting you? Have I not been Have I not been cool with you the whole time, attentive, and and respectful, and trying to understand what's going on? Just be honest with me about what happened, brother. What What What What I understand what happened inside, but you you went outside and you broke the window. >> mad. >> What's that about? Were you just you were you were just you were just super upset? Like talk to me. Explain it to me. >> upset. It came from my life. >> Yes, sir. Okay. So So after that, you went out and and you busted the windows? Is that what happened? Okay. So Am I Am I right? Okay? Cuz I I got Like I said, I already know the answer, man, but I I I I you to be honest with me. Cuz when the judge looks and sees this, okay? That's going to be there's there's, you know. >> I'm not worried about >> Okay. >> It's hard. >> Okay. >> worried about is that people >> Listen. Okay. So, you going to still claim that you didn't bust the windows out? You admitted Okay. So, you came So, you went back over there and busted his windows? >> I wanted to make sure I am safe. I wanted to make sure >> Okay. To do that So, so to do that you busted his windows out? >> I am saying that I got I am admitting that I got physical >> So, my question to you is are you denying that you busted the windows out? Yes or no? >> I'm not denying that. >> You're not denying that you busted the windows out. Did you use that pipe? >> No. >> How did you bust the windows out? It was from what? >> It was some kind of >> It was some kind of stick. It wasn't a pipe. Okay. Okay. >> I didn't use the same pipe. >> Okay. But, he left that pipe in your apartment? Okay. All right. Appreciate it, man. Just Just give me a second. I'll be right back with you, okay? Who's that? >> This This one, man. >> Let me check his number. 470 >> 227 3083 >> Come on, man. >> 470-227-3083. What apartment is she staying in? 404? Ma'am. Listen. What apartment do you stay in? >> I said yes. Yes. I seen it out my bedroom window. >> Thank you. >> Yes. You're welcome. >> All right, man. You're good to go now. I appreciate it. >> All right, see you later. >> Sorry. He's going to get All right. If you don't If you don't mind writing a ticket for the city charges for him, um I guess I mean, what's the city charges for busting through the windows out with a stick? >> Yeah, the car belongs to the county. Uh I don't know what you can do. >> Is it Yeah, but he didn't damage the >> He didn't do anything to the car. >> But they didn't have a jurisdiction. >> They didn't have uh damage to private property for the city. Uh but the only issue is you know, like like I I know you were saying about the state getting involved, but you want to do state or city? What do you say? What do you want to do city?
