On April 28th, 2023, Fairburn police were called to the Best Western on Oakley Industrial Boulevard after a minor traffic [music] accident turned into a full-blown parking lot beat down. A woman driving a U-Haul box truck attempted to turn into the hotel parking lot while traffic was backed up. She misjudged the clearance and clipped another vehicle [music] sitting in traffic. The accident wasn't serious. Nobody needed an ambulance, [music] and the U-Haul driver wasn't running from responsibility. She pulled into the parking lot, stepped out, and [music] immediately started apologizing. This should have been a simple exchange of insurance information and everybody going home mad, right? Not quite, >> [music] >> because if it were that simple, I wouldn't be telling this story. According to a witness, [music] the U-Haul driver was apologizing and accepting responsibility when the other woman allegedly got in her face, started talking [music] reckless, and swung first. And that is where the situation went left. Somewhere between [music] "I'm sorry" and "Let's handle this like adults", somebody's temper climbed out of the vehicle before the driver did. Words were exchanged. >> [music] >> Threats allegedly followed. One punch was thrown, then another, then a couple more. And within seconds, one woman was on the ground with a knot on her forehead, her pride scattered across the Best Western parking lot, and her wig filing a separate accident report. This is a classic case of letting your mouth write a check your ass couldn't cash. Because hopping out of your car [music] talking a hundred dollars worth of [ __ ] is risky business. Some people are not interested [music] in all that yick yak. You can point your finger, raise your voice, toss your neck around, [music] and threaten to beat somebody's ass. But every once in a while, you're going to meet somebody who skips the argument and goes straight to processing the payment. No debate, no 30-day grace period, [music] just same-day delivery. A fist directly to your jaw. And it is officially a bad morning when you manage to get into a car accident, get your ass kicked, [music] and end up under investigation for DUI all before lunchtime. You woke up expecting [music] coffee and breakfast. You didn't expect your car to be damaged, your forehead swollen, your insurance questionable, [music] and the police asking you to stand on one leg. By the time Officer Steven Lanford arrived, both women had completely different stories. One claimed she had been hit twice, first by the U-Haul and then by its driver. The other admitted she beat her ass, but insisted the entire transaction was self-defense. But while speaking with the woman who appeared to have taken the worst of the beating, Officer Lanford smelled alcohol on her breath. >> [music] >> And just like that, the story shifted from who threw the first punch to "Ma'am, have you been drinking today?" Luckily, >> [music] >> one man working nearby had a front-row seat to the entire disaster. He saw the accident. He heard the argument. And most importantly, he watched that fresh can of whoop-ass get cracked wide open. Let's get into it. Body cam on. >> How we doing? What's going on? >> Here. >> Are you okay? >> Yeah, I'm okay. >> hit? >> Yeah, she hit me. >> With what? >> she she turns into this um establishment. I'm going towards the light. She rips off the back of my truck. Right here. >> Uh-huh. >> Now my pipe is leaking. It's right here. And so I get out the car and I'm like, "Girl, are you crazy? Are you tripping? Like, what's going on?" She told me I was >> Who was she driving? >> It's just an accident. It's just an accident. I got insurance. And I'm like, "Okay." And so we talking and we're in each other's face. And she's like, "Back up from me. Back up from And I'm just like What makes you think you can just hit my truck and keep going? So she hit, you know, the whole U-Haul truck. >> Yeah, that's my back of my car. >> Okay. >> She's driving this U-Haul that she parked up there. >> Okay. >> And um >> So were you coming this way and she was turning in here or what? >> I was going straight. She was turning in here. >> Okay. >> And she just goes against the whole backside of my truck. >> Okay. >> And then commence to swinging on me. >> While you were in the car or what? >> No, I was outside the car. We was in each other's face. >> Where were y'all talking at? Like out there on the street? >> Okay. >> Right here. And I'm just like, really lady? >> Okay. >> You're going to just swipe my truck and keep going? >> Okay. >> And she like, I just lost my mother. Like she just went ham. And then dude comes up to me as if he wants to swing on me, too. >> Okay. What's going on, guys? What's What's What's the deal? >> Yeah, I'm moving today and I had a truck down there. It's about a 20-ft truck. I came right here and turned in and she was parked waiting for the light to go. >> Okay. >> And I did I clipped the end of her truck. >> Okay. >> And so when I pulled in, I stopped where your truck was and I I got out of my car. >> Okay. >> Before I could even fully get my feet on the ground, she said, have you lost your [ __ ] mind? I said, I apologize. You know, I hit you. I have my insurance. She said, yeah, get your insurance out, [ __ ] I said, woah, watch your mouth. And then she continued to talk like it was a exchange back and forth. I felt Yeah. I told her I already got my stuff. Ain't no issue. Just call the police. But she >> At that point she felt threatened. >> She kept came to like, have you lost your [ __ ] mind? I understand, you know, a accident would be, you know, emotions high. Like, cool, but I did apologize. I told her I have insurance. No problem. She continued to call me out my name. Her breath was in my face. She's been drinking. You You can DUI her right now cuz she's drunk as hell. In my face talking about [ __ ] this. I said, back up. You need to back up. She did not back up. I felt threatened. I was by myself. My husband was behind me, but he had to go around cuz traffic was just thick right here. So, I'm At this point, I'm here by myself. And she's walking up on me. >> happened here in the parking >> Right here. Right here. [ __ ] Right here. >> She got out of her car to the parking lot. >> Yes, she Yes, she was all right here. She came walking up on me. Like I said, my truck was parked where you are. She was about at my door before I could even get out talking about have I lost my [ __ ] mind. No, but I'm about to. So, I told her to back up. She didn't. Beat her ass. She called the police, and that's That's why we're here. Because it was my fault, and I told her that from the jump. But she was getting to walk up on me talking about I'm from California. I don't give a [ __ ] where you from in real life. >> Got you. >> So, that's what happened. The The accident was my fault. Getting her ass beat was her fault. >> Okay. All right, you got your license on you? >> Yeah. What you mean I ain't telling the truth? You got a witness right here, baby. And somebody saved your life that came from Wendy's. Get the [ __ ] out of here. >> Car 18, you're code three. I'm code four. 33, you can 610. No weapons involved. What did you hit her with? You >> I beat her with my body. That's it. That's all I had. Like I said, she jumped. She came up on me out out the truck. And she asked me have I lost my mind. Get your insurance information. I told her to watch your mouth. Be careful. >> Okay. You can't run up on nobody's >> She I don't know this lady. She's a stranger, and she smell like alcohol. It's It's midday. I'm finna I feel threatened. >> even matter if it is. I don't know. You can't run up on nobody's truck. You messed up. You made a mistake. >> Right. I had insurance. Money's not the issue. >> I got you. Um Just if she starts arguing, let her talk, okay? >> talking. Like, that's all we do. >> Hey. >> Hey, you okay? >> You You work here, or you just doing the landscape? >> I'm just doing the landscape, but what happened was she hit her car. >> You were out here the whole time? >> And the lady right there said she came to fight the lady. She wanted to fight her. So, then the lady didn't want to fight her. >> the aggressor? >> Yep. And she >> had her mind >> She got her ass beat, but it was It's fault. Cuz she >> You were sitting out here? >> She was she she she was fine the lady. >> And you >> Okay. >> So the lady did I she she was trying to you know be calm and everything but the lady right there she she got to have her. But she it was it was her fault. >> Careful. Love it. Okay. Hey, do you have like some kind of information on the truck? >> I don't know. >> Did they make you do >> Right. I just had to like do it.
