This is Bernard Vern Somaru, 44, and we're about to meet him very soon. On Saturday, March 1st, 2025, around 8:15 p.m., Tampa International Airport, police are called to Ducky's restaurant on Airside A for an intoxicated passenger. According to the report, [music] a JetBlue manager had already told him he wasn't getting on his flight to New York. And there was also an unpaid tab at Duckies. The officer's job sounded pretty simple. Get the tab handled and escort him off the airside. That's it. How complicated could that get? Well, watch what happens when [music] they walk up to the bar. >> Hey, how you doing? >> Hey, what's up? >> Good, man. You left your bags over there. >> I did. >> Yeah, we got to go grab them. Okay. >> Am I going through? >> No, but they're not going to let you fly in your condition. >> I'm not I'm not doing >> I've heard about three or four different people told me. So, >> yeah. Jeez. >> Now, watch. >> So, what did I do wrong? >> Oh, I want to want to know what's what I did wrong. >> Sir, face that way. >> I want to know what I did wrong. >> It's not bad. What I did wrong? >> If you scoot forward, it's easier on your arms. >> I know what I did wrong. >> Hear me? >> Hear me out. What I did wrong? >> Okay. What did I do wrong? What did I do wrong today? >> Yo, I was going to Jersey. Wait till I tell someone. >> What did I do wrong today? Why y'all locking me up? I didn't do to me. I ain't do to nobody. Yeah, what I did. >> With Bernard now secured in the back of the patrol car, it's worth remembering just how small this whole thing started. An airline supervisor decided he wasn't flying that night and the officers who came over were basically there to pass along the message. Pay the tab, grab your bags, and leave the airside. That was the whole ask. Even the sergeant says on camera they were trying to get him out of there without making an arrest. Officers called his friend. His friend agreed to drive in from Ruskin and a ride was already coming. So what did Bernard really have to do? Stand there for about half an hour. But according to the report, he kept escalating in front of the other passengers at the bar. And that's what turned a bad night into a trip to jail. And if you've been wondering why Bernard actually got arrested, we're about to get that answer. As always, we are not here to judge anyone as a person, we're looking at what [music] the camera captured and the choices made in that moment. So, please keep the discussion civil. Now, let's ride along to booking and see what he actually gets charged with because it's not what he spent the whole night arguing about. >> Like you like you like liars. Yes, you like liars. What are you locking me up for? >> I wasn't there. I don't know. But what you locking me up for? What you charging me for? I want to know. I'm going to get my lawyer in my suit. Oh yeah. What you What you charging me for? >> What you charging? I ain't do to y'all. Charge me. I'm happy for you to charge me. Oh my god. It's not going to be It's not even be worth it. Wait till I talk to my lawyer. I did not do nothing to you guys. Nothing. Not even nothing. Y'all crazy. Crazy. I get my lawyer. Y'all taking me to jail now? Wait till I I'mma sue y mother for money. I can't wait till you take me to jail. Hey, please take me to jail so I can sleep. I haven't slept in like 4 days. Why would you do that to me? If you really care, why would you do that to me? Why? If they lock me up for that, I'm suing I'm suing the whole community. What they lock me up for? For what? And you're going to get sued, too. Yeah, I ain't doing nothing to you guys. You guys are just lying people up for no reason. You just want to lock people. Why you always lock people up? >> All right. Do what I did to y'all. >> Not us here. Come on. >> I did something to y'all. >> Swing legs up. >> Swing legs out. >> Charge me. Charge me. What I did to you guys? I never did anything to you guys. I just want to go to sleep. >> Okay. Come on. to me. Why y'all doing this to me, bro? >> By the end, Bernard Vern Samoaru, 44, of Wimma, Florida, was arrested and booked into the Hillsboro County Jail on one count of disorderly intoxication, a first-degree misdemeanor under Florida law. No theft, not the unpaid bar tab. He spent most of the night demanding to know what he was being charged with. And in the end, the answer was the one thing he wasn't really arguing about, the disturbance itself. At that unpaid bill, the restaurant manager declined to press charges and signed a waiver of prosecution that same night.
