An officer with a knife wound to the head. The suspect had a blade. The physical struggle was intense enough to completely displace the officer's body camera, but the audio captured everything. Listen as they worked to secure the scene. >> Shots fired. >> You're good. You're good. You're okay. >> SHOTS FIRED. SHOTS FIRED. HE HAS A KNIFE. WE HAVE ONE officer cut on the head. >> HEY, GET HIM. I GOT HIM. SOMETHING. >> YOU'RE OKAY. YOU'RE OKAY. >> HEY, PUT PRESSURE ON YOUR HEAD. PUT PRESSURE ON YOUR HEAD. >> HEY. HEY. HEY. You okay? You okay? >> I'm good. I'm good. >> The knife is recovered from the suspect's right hand. The officer confirms the shots. What started as a welfare check outside a CV's pharmacy ended with an officer slashed across the head and a suspect shot. This incident occurred just two days before Thanksgiving. Those holiday lights you saw throughout, that's downtown Houston preparing for the holiday. >> Sir, you still with us? >> Hey. Hey, I needed you. Hey, >> BACK UP. YO, GET INSIDE. It's >> right here in the right hand. Hey, >> the transcript does not provide the outcome for the suspect or the injured officer's condition, but this was just the first incident. The next one starts with a routine traffic stop and ends with the suspect firing at officers from underneath a jeep. Copel saw him, I guess, between these two white pickups cuz I was over here and somebody said they saw 134. So, I went back. So, he's going to be in front of that Tacoma right there. >> Different day, different location. An officer runs a plate and discovers the driver has a felony warrant. What should be a straightforward arrest becomes a high-speed chase and then a shootout in a parking lot. >> Stay right there. STAY RIGHT THERE. >> KEEP HIM ON THAT SCENE. >> HE'S DOWN. HE'S DOWN. >> HE'S ON THE GROUND. >> HE'S ON THE GROUND. [screaming] KEEP >> HIM ON THE GROUND. >> Acorn and Antoine in Houston. The officer has a felony warrant suspect. He's calling for backup. But notice this is during the 2-minute buffer period. No audio yet, just silent preparation. >> You need to check by uh I got a guy on my traffic stop here with a felony warrant. >> Check Acorn. >> I'll be right here at Acorn and Antoine 31 that way. or no? I received I got an update. >> Units are responding. There's already been a minor accident on the freeway. The situation is developing fast and then the suspect runs >> 73 on the um there should be 290 inbound the uh I 10 exit ram. Uh there's a three or four car minor on the middle lanes like number two lane. K9 is being authorized. The pursuit is on. The officer behind the wheel is racing to catch up. Watch how fast this escalates. >> 3B 41. No more Ruckers. Hey, Ruckers. Stand by. I'll let you know if I need you. >> No. A record 2. I have a major 290 at I 10 ft. K95 before I 10 split. There was a two degree vehicle I 10. Three people in the car, a dog, and a driver with a felony warrant who just made the worst decision of his life. He's about to run on foot. It's going to be the driver. There's two more people in there and a dog. So yeah. Hey, Mr. Bassy, go ahead. Step out of the car for me, please. Step out of the car for me. >> Hey, step out of the car. Emergency traffic. Uh, traffic stop. The sergeant authorizes K9. Multiple units are converging on this commercial parking lot, but the suspect, he's already on the run. >> He's got a new Tony warrant. Sergeant authorized Fox K9. probably discharge a firearm. And then they spot him on foot. Going westbound on 34th. 4290. This is going to be the number one lane. Approaching 290. Going westbound. West 34th. Speed 65. Still going to be westbound. unit. >> Yes, we need fox and can only warrant in this firearm at officers as much as we can. >> He has a gun, black hoodie, black pants. The suspect is armed and heading toward the apartment complex. And then he jumps the fence out. He's going to be on foot going northbound on Antoine. position. He has a gun. He has a gun. >> He's got a gun. He's going to be going to the Palestinian. Black, black hoodie, black pants. >> He's jumped a fence. He's heading into the apartments. They've lost visual. This is Officer Payne's footage and it cuts here as he's still approaching. But another officer is already closer to the action and I have the body cam for that officer as well. He jumped the fence into a business just north of the pal. >> Black male. Black coat. >> Got a firearm. >> Got a firearm. >> He went south behind the apartment. I don't see him going anywhere north. >> Okay. So, he went to the apartments. >> What's your name of the apartment? Hey, check me. This is Officer Kule's body camera. Same incident, same parking lot, but he's arriving faster and he's about to come face to face with the armed suspect. >> 5828. HOLD IT RIGHT THERE. 5828 5828 went 34th 58 28 34th Hey, HOLD IT RIGHT THERE. WATCH HIS URGENCY. He's out of the car within seconds and almost immediately his weapon comes out. heat. That's the call. The officer is moving fast along the perimeter fence. He rounds the corner toward the parking lot and that's when he draws his weapon. SOUTH. GO SOUTH. GO [screaming] SOUTH. GO SOUTH. GO SOUTH. I think he went south behind the apartment cuz I don't see him going anywhere north. They've got eyes on him. The officer is moving through the lot using vehicles as cover. Watch what happens next. He just shot at me. The suspect opened fire. Officers are returning fire. This has become an active gunfight in a commercial parking lot. I think I'm got him at 5828. 5828. HOLD IT RIGHT [screaming] THERE. 5828 58 28 Where? 34th 58 28 34th Hey, HOLD IT RIGHT THERE. PUT THE GUN DOWN. [screaming] PUT THE GUN DOWN. DON'T DO IT. DON'T DO IT. Don't do it. The suspect is between the ranger and the jeep. Officers are communicating positions. The officer takes cover. The situation has escalated from pursuit to defensive positions. Hey, I'VE GOT HIM OVER HERE. PUT THE GUN DOWN. SON OF A [ __ ] HE JUST SHOT AT ME. HE JUST SHOT AT ME. SHOTS FIRED. PUT IT DOWN. PUT IT DOWN. >> HE'S UP AGAINST THE BUILDING. HE'S UP AGAINST THE BUILDING BEHIND THE CARS. STAY ON THAT SIDE. STAY ON THAT SIDE. >> STAY ON THAT SIDE. KEEP THAT THERE. HE'S ON THE WHITE TRUCK. BY THE WHITE TRUCK. >> By the white truck. >> Come. >> WHERE'S HE AT? >> RIGHT BY THE WHITE IN BETWEEN THE RANGER AND THE JEEP. >> He's piling by the Jeep. >> Uh he should BE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE JEEP. >> UNDERNEATH THE JEEP. The suspect is on the ground but still armed. They're trying to keep him pinned. Listen to them coordinate. >> I saw him right between the Ranger and the Jeep. >> Stay right there. Stay right there. KEEP HIM ON THAT SIDE. >> WE GOT HIM SURROUNDED. YOU'RE FINE. >> Down on THE GROUND. >> ON THE GROUND. >> It's on the ground underneath the Jeep. >> I'm keeping his head down a little bit. Just bust it off. just bust it off. >> And that's where officer Kapple's footage ends. Still behind cover, the suspect somewhere on the ground between the vehicles. We don't know the final outcome. Unfortunately, what we do know, a routine traffic stop over a felony warrant turned into a vehicle pursuit, then a foot chase, then a shootout in a parking lot at the suspect fired [music] first. Officers returned fire. The rest of the story exists somewhere beyond these body cameras. >> I don't think I've good shot at it. I can't see him from right here. >> HEY. HEY, P. COME BACK. Move to the right to that truck. Come on. Let's get covered behind the truck. Y say the Ranger the Ranger. [screaming] This is what law enforcement faces. Unpredictable, violent, and captured frame by frame on these cameras. If you want to see more breakdowns like this, subscribe. We'll see you in the next
