hey hey she's in the back okay what's going on refund fraud she's been uh doing fraudulent returns and loading them to shop cards for hi huh we've all been excited about our first job and the opportunity to work for our money and earn an honest living however this wasn't the case for one cashier in October of 2023 a phone call was made to a local Walmart in Florida concerning an employee who was defrauding the company out of thousands of dollars a week here's how it worked a customer would come in with a receipt to exchange a product handing the cashier their receipt the cashier would make the exchange but not process it through the Walmart database she would then take the receipt and do a refund putting the money on a gift card making $200 to $700 per day hey hey she's in the back okay what's going on uh uh refund fraud she's been uh doing fraudulent returns and loading them to shop cards for herself for how long um I have 30 days wor oh wow okay cop there someone doing an interview with her back there now they are okay they should be about your store interviews yeah okay you a lot about Walmart I've never se you before I'm aiming I work at 64 is mine Walmart oh okay all [Music] right stand for [Music] [Music] a statement she's about to ra your statement we just got her to admit the total that she estimates she estimates over 2,000 uh since July she's been doing these transactions um giving false returns uh she'll basically just hand out merchandise and keep the gift card first now your statement that's only for you on Walmart now it's not for us yeah okay CU we I have to read a Miranda and everything right right right right yeah we just keep that statement on her file that's just yeah that's just for your personal story yes okay all right give me just about 30 more seconds so I can get her started writing okay what she doing now she'll are these three different things no it's all the same type all we oh on multiple different things oh different days I just put them on each separate day okay yeah so yeah she'll she the customer will come in and be like I'm going to return a battery okay uh unknown customer unknown unknown customer now there's two in here here that is an accomplice okay but then the unknown customer comes in they'll have a battery and they'll have an old battery okay she'll scan the new battery upload it to a shop card a gift card and then she keeps it and then she just gives the customer the battery customer get leav so she's giving the merchandise away and she's uploading a card to herself so they're not they're not even paying for it no she's got us for like minimum 2,000 we're going to have more oh wow all right she ready hi huh n just keep living out give me the numbers like call you what you Kay oh okay I just got all right listen to me yes sir I'm going to read you something okay okay read your Miranda right now you being detained you're all right you have the right for me S anything you can't say will be used against you in the court of law you have the right to talk to an attorney or have him present with you before any question if you can cannot afford to hire an attorney oneway appointed to represent you at no cost before during before enduring any question if you wish you you can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements do you understand these these rights if I explain them to you yes sir uh would you like do you having these rights in mind do you wish to talk to me now yes huh yes okay can you tell me what's been going on B steing stealing okay how long this been going on dates time frame you know two months last month three months well like around like July no just like I I don't know what exact day but like around July okay um what how has it been going on how how have you been doing this with gift cards huh with gift cards with gift cards so customer come in and how how how would you do it how would you do the transaction basic like say that they come up and they have like a battery or something uh like that like a car battery yeah that you do like the exchange you do exchange yeah and then when you like just swipe the card you swipe a gift card mhm are they paying for the battery no good um they're for exchange oh that's for exchange so they're bringing the old battery in and getting the new battery basically yeah so they're not paying for the new battery you don't you don't do that they just exchange only oh exchange only so they're coming in with a bad battery to exchange it for a new battery is the battery under warranty can I can I just ask you something what either way right now you're going to take me okay so can we can we just go in okay it's fine turn around take the thing off your wrist please we are going to proceed with trespass as well do not come back to this ever again or any no that's put your hands like your praying because it'll be easier for you cuz I'm going go through everything in here this is yours or is this Walmart that's mine and then that's my good that's my wi card my full St my that's is there anything in this thing that does not have your name on it yeah of course huh yeah everything has your name on it no no no some stuff does not that's what I'm asking if no I just said yeah a credit you get a lot of one wal gift cards here M Walmart gift cards bunch of them shop cards make sure no credit cards have someone else's name all Walmart cards are they hers are they the ones that she loaded the yeah they money on you can throw them away they they B they seen the on on my um thing already okay anything in two things I'm not going to go through it but no it's just that right there that yeah those two little bricks nothing in that pocket okay all right it's okay oh you walk me through the FL want walk you right through the store it's the only way out there ain't no back door you do oh you lying to me cuz that this is your this is your store yeah she's walking right there just like all the bad people all the what people all the bad people been here this week all all right your front office yeah okay yeah but I never came back there I used to deal with Scott in here oh yep good guy job though yeah I know okay it's in the front yeah I know I'm just trying to get my bearing in this side this store you never been you been been a long time follow this way we going to walk through the middle of the store yeah through the middle absolutely right through the middle uh either way you got to pass that way this way right there yeah right there my co that see the back the suspect was taken down to the local jail the total cost of her scam defrauded Walmart out of just over $3,500 according to court records she mentioned that it was her first job and she was tempted to make what she called fast money anyway she was sentenced to 24 months of probation we hope she learned a lesson otherwise her future won't be bright
