appear imagine stopping by your local Speedway for a lottery ticket dreaming of hitting the jackpot but what if I told you the real jackpot was being stolen by the clerk behind the counter that's exactly what happened at one Speedway where an employee who had only been on the job for one week pulled off a sneaky scheme to steal over $5,000 in lottery tickets here's how it worked during her shift she'd scan tickets to find the winners then toss them into the trash can at the end of the day she'd take out the trash but it wasn't garbage she was walking out with it was a stash of winning lottery tickets here's what happened next all right she's actually sitting in the back dooring classes cuz I didn't want to back under the register okay um I got video click Tak stretch put it in the trash can speak a little bit louder or sheot nearby or uh no she's in the just want to hear you better camera can hear you better I got her um camer taking scats off standing cashing taking some putting it in a trash and putting it in another trash to make it seem like she's put a lot of Trash Away M and go hit it to time for to do so she can get it and go home with it was she able to get any cash from any one of those or did she take anything she W some and she redeem it so there was a couple of time she she took a $150 ticket and she push it out for $100 ticket okay and of course she won $100 um how how much total in cash how much total in ottery I'm going total secret it was from eight different books from eight different books and you have that you have that on um surveillance camera clear's day 100% all right no questions asked byday no all right um You Want You said you want a fresh Charters correct have you filled out of s before or not have you f one of these out before or oh yeah okay absolutely some people it's their first time filming one of these out so no no this is not my first okay does she know why she's back there right now or I told her she she got class to because she's a new employee and and got video classes to do okay so instead of putting her out here to be on she's going to be in the back watching the camera I mean the camera doing the video classes because she's still under a she hasn't been with us for one week so right now as far as she's aware she's doing training in the back okay I was surprised to see her grand so and so the cash a lot tiet she put in trash bags took out as if she's thrown it away we pick it up at the end end of shi yeah and that's all that's on camera too taking the trash tags at the end of shi going in their car being picked up or whatever [Music] the if you just fill out all your information and detail up top I don't need a home address I don't need your home phone but everything else please and the statement all just be as detailed as possible so on whatever day whatever time however it was you found out um I found out on on um mon well it was it happened on Sunday I found out Monday morning was as a manager we SC Lottery yeah um and I couldn't figure it out so I let my district manager know that some stuff was missing and basically they had to go in there and do the research and then when I got my camera um the came up for the store contacted and everything that's when I checked the video and that's when I saw all yeah just this in the statement just basically chronological order date approximate time how however it was found out just like we were saying um that one of your employees was um stealing lottery tickets cashing them out going to detail like that one in the statement and so forth okay when did she get hired [Music] like it cover for the most part checking to see if she won she was scratching them off herself I thought she was taking them to sell them like some them she she's actually redeeming them here in store and taking cash for it cash and lottery tickets in the trash trash bag she was scratching when she won some the tickets like some of it get she was and there's no there's no exit out the back of the store she if she was thinking about about [Music] this that's wild just uh straight back at the end right okay what's your Jennifer on man sorry [Music] talk me I understand okay so so no you don't want to talk to me or you just or you or yes you do want to talk to me you just want to understand a bit more why we're here with you and then you'll decide whether you're not here to talk tell me why you're here okay well over your I'll show you something to do with your employment and uh tickets lad ticket specifically okay do you want to talk okay which that's all verified okay that can be proven there's no question about it okay so it's either you want to talk to me or you don't help me help me explain why if not by being arrested okay so can you answer a simple question do you want to talk to me about the incident yes or no sorry I promise you you'll feel a whole lot better when you talk about it I'll give you a chance if you want to talk but if not not going to make it talk so but I need an answer now I just want to know if I'm being arrested I'm not going to provide that information okay you got two police officers here you're smart please don't waste our time why shouldn't we arrest you please don't arrest me give us give us a good reason why we shouldn't arrest you explain yourself and your actions from the other night I was stupid I shouldn't have did it I'm sorry but please don't arrest me can you give me a notice to appear please we need to talk about what happened first before we can determine what we're going to do about it we have one side of the story okay quite quite simply talk you're going to talk to us and provide every detail of it or you're not going to talk to us okay either way you way I need an answer right now yes yes yes okay so what what what was the reason for taking any tickets taking any any money that that type of thing an addiction I'm sorry I'm faceing addiction my home desperate room you you have any roommates any family I have my mom is with me was she not help a to help you out with anything or what so he's trying to get Social Security have you ever been arrested before yes back for what back in uh I think 2000 any H any any farther way to Target no okay so you know there's cameras around left and right nowadays right so what makes you think you could get away with something like this I don't know you saying just a desperate and stupid move out the other day yeah hey how much money did you get from cashing in the lottery ticket and again we everything's verifiable like there's everything's tracked and traced right it's not like you took a couple dollars from the cash drawer you you took some tickets and you you scratched them off and you turned them in right I pay pay for the tickets as well as the you paid for the tickets out of the money out of the money you paid for the tickets but the money that you stole on the probably 300 $300 is that how much you actually took home that night or is that how much you spent on the other tickets so let me I'm trying to understand this okay so you took some tickets from the roll right and you scratched them off and then you like you you turned them into the to the lottery machine to get the payout right and you took that money and you bought more tickets again I don't understand how how the lottery system works here so you you took some tickets yes and then I would I would uh scan it pay for it and then keep the rest of the window okay got you okay 50 bucks out of 100 tickets as far as you think or no about $300 worth among tickets and cash and everything else like that tell tell me about tell me about um how you manage to get the money and tickets out of the store what tell me how you me get the tickets and the money out of the store how you were able to get the the lottery tickets did you did you just put the lottery tickets in your front pocket walk out the front door you stick it in the backpack no I scratched I scratched the ticket and turned and turned it in and got the money it was around $300 just an alarm I'm not getting any radio for M I got it just an alarm okay okay um I'm sorry how did you so how did you walk out of the store with all lottery tickets and cash stick in your pocket you didn't I redeemed them in the store you can take anything home with you just a cash to $300 or whatever yeah okay then take put watery tickets and cash and Trash Can Take It Outside put in the trash can that the tri to go pick it up just the one just the ones that I would the ones that I threw away the ones that at the winning thre it away so you scratched them off you threw them away and then you went back to the dumpster to kind of collect them to kind of hide your evidence or whatever no that's what you just said no bring it through okay you got to be clear for us right we don't we don't we don't work at at a gas station so you you you rang them up you threw them in the trash and then what I kept part of the money and put the money for the ticket in the in the teal okay so at no point did you try to conceal anything in trash and to hide it or anything like that or or collect anything after you got out of work by the dumpsters or anything no okay okay even even a Sur fo says otherwise what do you mean as far as what we got we got we got a story from one side of the party here we're trying to get your side of story okay so if if you didn't try to hide anything in the trash cans or the trash bags by the dumpsters or something like that then you need to let us know cuz that's what the other part is saying right now no okay so you all you do is take the money home with you in your pocket yeah the suspect was charged with felony Grand Theft for
