If you know your true crime history, you felt something when I said that date. April 20th is the anniversary of Columbine High School, 1999. The massacre that changed school safety in America forever. 13 killed. It is not a coincidence that Sky Bouche chose that date. This is Forest High School in Ocala, Florida, a Wednesday morning. 2,300 students, homecoming week, events planned. One of those students will be in a hospital by 9:00 a.m. And a 19-year-old former student named Sky Bouche is walking toward this building right now, with a guitar case. He heads straight to the second floor boys restroom. The surveillance camera stays on the hallway. You can't see inside. But investigators later reconstructed exactly what happened in there. He opens the guitar case. He loads the shotgun. He puts on the tactical vest. He pulls on the gloves. When he walks back out of that bathroom, he is a different person than when he walked in. He is armed. He is vested. He has made a decision. 10:39 a.m., the silence breaks. Bouche fires a single round through a classroom door. Shrapnel hits a 17-year-old student in the ankle. But then, the script changes. He doesn't keep firing. He doesn't run. He drops the gun and surrenders to a teacher. In the world of forensics, we call this immediate remorse. The exact second the fantasy of the crime meets the reality of the damage. I didn't catch all that. Right here. Hold on. Secure. What the hell is that? What happened? 300 responding. Classroom 212, a 17-year-old boy named Evan Eckenrode is sitting inside that classroom. The slug travels through the door, hits him in the ankle. He will survive. He will walk out of that school. But in this moment he doesn't know that. Hey, you stay right there. And then something that nobody expected happened. Boosh lowers the gun. He stopped. He put the weapon down. He walked down that hallway past the door he just fired through and he kept walking. He went to classroom 229 down the hall. He walked in. He sat down at a desk. A school shooter sat down at a desk and waited. Teacher Kelly Panasuck was in that room with her students. She talked to him. She kept him calm. She kept him there. Before Deputy Long's camera turns on, I need you to understand who Sky Bouche actually was. Because this story has a layer that never got enough attention. Sky Bouche didn't appear out of nowhere. In October 2013, 5 years before this shooting, he was 15 years old. He posted online comments on Columbine videos. "I'm thinking about doing my school the same way. I have enough guns and ammo. I have been planning for months." Both the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the Ocala Police Department were notified. They knew his name. They knew his school. They had his words. Five years later, he walked in anyway. He told a jailhouse interviewer afterward, it was a cry for help. He said he researched church shootings, felt they got ignored, school shootings got coverage, he wanted to be seen. There is a lot of people on the internet saying that they were saying that they were saying they were going to attack the school, so I'm just just watch out for other people like normal So I there could be other people besides him. In 2013, he was 15. He posted online threats. The FBI flagged it. Local police were notified. Five years passed. No follow-up. No intervention system. No red flag law in Florida at the time. He told his jailhouse interviewer all he wanted was for someone to acknowledge his pain. The system saw him in 2013 and then it stopped looking. Kelly Panasouk, the teacher who let him into her classroom and talked him down. She received the woman of courage award. She also received intense criticism for putting her students in a room with an armed shooter. Both things are true. Sky Bouche was sentenced in 2021, 30 years in prison, minimum 25 served, then 30 years probation. He said he deserved to be put away. Evan Eckenrothe made a full recovery. One shot, one student hit, one deputy, three minutes. The warnings were there in 2013. Someone saw it and then looked away. These cases don't close. This is Grave files TV.
