foreign [Music] [Music] [Laughter] hold on one moment Temple drive and Winter Park all right we'll drive right yes ma'am yes all right okay thank you what's going on couples ride my husband okay to have a heart attack I don't know okay did you just find him no actually what happened last night it happened last night what so did you find him this morning because I know you said that you believed that happened last night did you see him last night was he okay or was he was not okay last night we had we had altercations 65 year old Michael redlick was born on May 1st 1953 in the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Cleveland Ohio friends and colleagues who affectionately referred to him as red described him as intelligent sarcastic and funny Michael received a bachelor's degree in Communications and a master's degree in sports Administration from Ohio University he also received a law degree from the Cleveland Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University Michael had a lengthy and successful career in the professional and Collegiate Sports industry with an extensive list of respected organizations on his resume including a three-year tenure with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway an eight-year stint as VP of sales with the mba's Memphis Grizzlies as well as tours with the NFL's Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers ultimately Michael returned to his first love college as the Director of external Affairs and partnership relations for the University of Central Florida's Sports business management program regarding his personal relationships Michael met and started dating Kathleen Aquino in 1990. Aquino was in the service industry and did not have quality health benefits so after she had been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in 1999 Michael agreed to marry her to give her access to his health care benefits unfortunately Kathleen Aquino succumbed to cancer later that same year at the age of 46. 48 year old Danielle Justine Drohan was born on November 3rd 1973 and most recently resided in Winter Park Florida she has a varied educational background including an associate of Arts degree from Valencia College in addition she holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Baldwin Wallace University a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in mass communication from UCF and certification in advanced photography from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis on her Twitter page Danielle refers to herself as a multimedia Communications professional writer and advocate for environmental and social responsibility she has worked for the Clear Channel network Hearst media and Google before making a career change to sustainability assistant for a state government agency as a social responsibility Advocate she frequently posted on Twitter about women's issues climate change and equality and other social causes by the time she reached the age of 25 in 1999 she had gained some career traction but 1999 would be a Bittersweet year for Danielle on the one hand she lost her mother Kathleen Aquino to breast cancer however on the other hand she started a romantic relationship with a man with whom she would fall in love marry and eventually have children his name was Michael redlick okay I know what you must be thinking if Kathleen is Danielle's mother and Kathleen was married to Michael redlick doesn't that make Danielle hmm have I told you this is a Florida case okay let's clear this up as previously mentioned Danielle's mother Kathleen Aquino was married to Michael and died when Danielle was 25 years old soon after Michael began to pursue Danielle despite the 20-year age Gap they fell in love around 2000 married in 2004 and had two kids Michael's former stepdaughter was now his wife the couple initially met in Ohio then relocated to Memphis Tennessee when the Grizzlies hired him they would eventually move to California and Indiana before settling in Winter Park Florida Danielle continued to pursue education in Florida but there were signs of trouble bubbling onto the surface of the marriage in court documents Danielle described their relationship as good but turned sour after they moved to California she felt her husband was overwhelmed by health issues anger and work pressures she claims that from early on in the relationship it was not uncommon for Michael to become angry and drink alcohol after a tough day at work when that happened she claimed he would assault her court records revealed that some 18 Witnesses stated there were consistent verbal and physical altercations between both parties fights were so typical that Michael once wrote in an email to a friend we are moving to Florida in December during winter break unless Danielle kills or divorces my ass neither is beyond possibility as the years went by love and patience seemed to be replaced by escalating conflict and confrontation often involving alcohol the following timeline of events in the history of the stormy relationship is derived from court documents police records sworn witness testimony and evidence obtained during the investigation into the death of Michael redlick Winter Park detectives interviewed family friends and Associates to determine the root of the redlick's relationship problems Dr Frederick Azar former Memphis Grizzlies physician said he once treated Michael and Danielle for injuries following a domestic scuffle furthermore he even consulted a plastic surgeon regarding Danielle's injuries one witness who spoke to detectives described an incident in April of 2017 when Michael said Danielle threw a knife at him during an argument in January of 2018 Michael was asked to leave the house after admitting to having an affair Danielle was reportedly devastated from that point Michael was in and out of the house as he collected needed items and picked up the kids just days later with Michael's infidelity still present on her mind Danielle went out with two friends for a night of dinner and drinking according to a police report a verbal disagreement in the car escalated into a physical altercation between the three occupants the driver pulled into a Wawa gas station and police were contacted when deputies arrived all three occupants were covered in blood the police report describes Danielle as drunk and belligerent as EMTs tried to give her Aid she went berserk and used hands feet Fist and teeth as weapons to attack the paramedics and the sheriff's deputy all the while she was screaming obscenities vulgar remarks and random statements including Babe Ruth was a badass [ __ ] the deputies believed Danielle was the primary aggressor in the verbal disagreements and physical altercations she was subsequently arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer and there is no information on whether the friends were arrested Danielle was offered a plea deal that would downgrade her charge from resisting an officer with violence to resisting without violence in exchange for a guilty plea that reduction likely led to probation rather than jail time and allowed Danielle to walk out a free woman just about one month later Danielle filed a petition in family court for divorce from Michael in which she described the marriage as irretrievably broken in the petition she saw shared custody of the kids alimony and the exclusive use of the home on Temple Drive She also asked the court to change her last name back to Drohan the documents describe Danielle as an unemployed Communications professional and photographer in April of 2018 Michael officially moved out of the house during his time away he began to date another woman however Michael essentially started a new courtship with Danielle making small gestures such as buying flowers leaving notes small gifts it seemed to work as in October of 2018 he and Danielle reconciled ostensibly for the sake of the children and to attempt to repair their marriage Danielle would later state that the reconciliation was fine at first but worsened over time in November of 2018 a friend told detective she was out with Danielle for dinner and drinks when Danielle admitted she sometimes throws dishes at Michael during arguments later after Michael joined them for dinner the friend was asked by Danielle if she thought he was sexy when she replied yes Danielle instantly became angry and created a scene by verbally accusting the friend police were not involved incidentally just Days Later Danielle's divorce petition was dismissed by a judge as the papers were not properly served to Michael however unrelated court documents reveal that the couple was actively exploring divorce at this stage despite the petition's dismissal in testimony Danielle described the relationship at this point as getting worse and moving towards an inevitable end in fact she was so convinced it was over that on December 7th 2018 she discreetly signed up for an account on a dating website called meetmindful.com after searching profiles she connected with a man named Mark and began exchanging messages they chatted about holiday plans hobbies and their backgrounds they were considering meeting up to go hiking with Danielle joking that she'd take her phone in case you're really bad company she followed that message up with totally joking I say that easily because I don't imagine that would happen based on our conversation so far in this little green text box they exchanged messages for over a month while Danielle had accepted in her mind at least the inevitable end of their time together it seems Michael was at a different phase on January 10 2019 he came across flirty messages between his wife and another man infuriated he reached for alcohol got drunk and angrily confronted Danielle the fight was so alarming that their teenage daughter had to separate them she grabbed a liquor bottle from Michael as Danielle left to stay Elsewhere for the evening these events are corroborated by the daughter's Court testimony the argument spilled over to the following day Michael went to work then stopped by a liquor store to purchase alcohol at 4 42 pm he then went to his son's flag football game before returning home tensions were still high in the household but they were about to reach a boiling point on January 11th at 10 32 PM according to Danielle's version of events she and Michael were the only ones at home but in separate rooms she was eating a hamburger in the kitchen still shaken from the previous night's verbal altercation suddenly an angry Michael entered the kitchen took a bite out of her meal and spit it at her face a scuffle ensued and at 10 52 PM Danielle attempted to call 9-1-1 on her cell phone but the call was aborted at 9 28 a.m the following day nearly 11 hours after the scuffle the following 9-1-1 call was made to the Winter Park Police Department foreign [Laughter] what's going on by the way my husband okay uh you might have a heart attack I don't know okay did you just find him no actually it happened last night it happened last night but okay I'll decide 1965. right now so did you find him this morning because I know you said that you believed it happened last night did you see him last night was he okay or was he was not okay last night we had we had all vacations and I found myself and I ran into the bathroom and like came out like trying to help him I thought you said flying in blood and then um I tried to take him to that correct yes and then I tried to help them and I thought I woke up with sitting up next to him right hi guys let me get you some Valentine so you all had an altercation last night correct yeah all right what's your name Danielle are there any weapons on seeing now oh nice he said he was 64 right 55. I'm sorry 65 65 . oh okay go ahead and give me your first name again okay so Danielle let me ask you this so did he stab himself last night and he passed last night and you just didn't know what to do correct I believe so yes okay were you out drinking he was he was yes he was and uh altercation when I was like four two but I left the house and took my children with me because he was taking them too were your kids there last night during this office no we were not they were not together now I know you first said that you thought he had a heart attack so do you think it was a heart attack or do you think I guess I don't know if the shoulder wound is that the shoulder wound right I'm just getting on this information okay um I'm just getting everything I believe police were dispatched to the temple Drive address and detectives arrived at 10 05 am detectives described a well-maintained two-story residence with one Audi and two Lexus vehicles in a roundabout driveway one detective reported broken eggshells inside and outside Michael's car they encountered Danielle dressed in all black outside the home with bandaged wrists and blood on her neck and feet detectives were informed that she had slipped both wrists a search warrant was obtained for the residents detectives entered the residence and discovered Michael lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the couple's Kitchen in a scene prosecutors would later State resembled a horror movie an autopsy report would conclude Michael died of a stab wound to the left shoulder that sliced a large vein according to the medical examiner this injury would typically take five to six minutes to bleed out the medical examiner concluded Michael's cause of death was establund not self-inflicted and the manner of death was a homicide Danielle claimed she started to perform CPR on Michael for a very long time but he vomited so she stopped and eventually collapsed from exhaustion however investigators found no signs of vomiting there was no indication of a heart attack there were no signs of bruising consistent with CPR and his ribs were intact Danielle claimed she did not immediately call for emergency assistance because she didn't know where her phone was she was also afraid to call because she was already on probation and was exhausted after her CPR attempt she laid down next to Michael's body wondering what to do next and claimed she slept until the following day according to the affidavit she continued to clean up then slit her wrists when she didn't know what to do it was then that she called 9-1-1 since Danielle was found with cuts to her wrists she was taken to a local hospital where authorities invoked Florida's Baker Act this law allows a patient to be involuntarily admitted for 72-hour observation if they are thought to be a danger to themselves or others a blood sample collected by law enforcement detected the presence of alcohol in her blood which was a violation of probation Danielle was subsequently arrested on January 23rd and booked into Orange County Jail on the violation of probation charge meanwhile the investigation continued and detectives obtained a search warrant for Danielle's phone based on inconsistencies in her story and learned that she had opened a profile on a dating app cops used the search warrant to get Danielle's account information they discovered that Danielle while her dead husband lay on the floor opened and browsed her dating app on January 12th at about 7 22 in the morning a little more than two hours before calling 9-1-1 the owner of the dating app testified in court that no messages were sent or received on January 11th or 12 2019. after a comprehensive investigation detectives from the Winter Park Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Danielle she was arrested and booked into an Orange County Jail on one count of second-degree murder with a weapon and one count of tampering with evidence you're here in 2019 cf-1846a oh you've been charged with second-degree murder with a dangerous weapon and tampering with evidence I do find probable cause for your well there's an arrest warrant so probable cause is already found ma'am and I'm gonna appoint the public defender to represent you stay this is a life felony second-degree murder is a punishable by life and then with a weapon it's enhanced to a life felony I thought it was set as a pbl your honor yeah I know like enhanced okay to a life felony okay when there's a weapon yes sure um your honor we believe that the defendant should be held at no bond based on proof ever presumption rate while looking at the Four Corners of the 10 page affidavit by um it looks like detective were I guess that's how you say her her last name your honor on the defendant called 9-1-1 on the Saturday January 12th claiming that her there was a tragedy at her home that there had been an altercation that took place the night before when police were able to get a search warrant and a ride they found the victim stabbed in a pool of blood his arm stretched in a t position based on an autopsy conducted by the medical examiner the next day um the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest area the medical examiner says that the defendant excuse me the victim would have let out within five to six minutes during the investigation of the law enforcement officer this defendant erased multiple text messages between the the victim and herself also while looking at internet searches this victim had been searching dating websites during the time there was also bleach found and the vict this defendant attempted to clean up um blood that was pooled by the victim's body that night while speaking to other Witnesses I believe it's three Witnesses listed in the police report they said that the victim had been victimized by this defendant multiple times that they had seen bruises on his arms um and a black eye in the weeks leading up to his untimely death based on this we believe the defendant is a danger to the community and should be held at novan based on proof evidence presumption rate Mr Frederick your honor in regards to the current case we have here this relics being charged with the charge of second-degree murder after reviewing the 10-page affidavit looking at the Four Corners staff at David appears that there were no material Witnesses within the affidavit all the evidence at this point circumstantial was also alleged that during this incident uh Miss really had to use self-defense when the victim grabbed her and held her down for these reasons we asked the court not to find that proof is evident or presumption great a staring that's beyond A Reasonable Doubt anything further from the state no your honor okay based on the four corners of the affidavit I do find proof evident presumption great um they were the only two individuals in the home and based on everything that I've read That's what I'm finding um and so ma'am I'm gonna hold you at no bond on February 21st 2022 prosecutors offered Danielle a plea deal she could plead guilty to manslaughter in exchange for a sentence of ten and a half years she had one week to agree on February 28th she turned it down and decided to go to trial the trial began on June 9th 2022. [Applause] Mr Wiggins I'll let you know at two minutes thank you January 12 2019 and about seven in the morning Mrs redlick is awake in her Winter Park home that she shares with her husband of over 15 years Michael redlick the home that she shares with her two minor children and she is doing what many of us do when we first wake up in the morning she's on her phone however this morning is unlike any other morning because approximately nine hours before this moment in time that defendant plunge the knife into the shoulder of Michael redlick which would cause him to bleed to death in that home they shared the home that she is standing in In This Moment In Time looks like something from a horror movie it is 7 22 in the morning and miss redlick opens up her dating website and she views the conversations that she's been carrying on that's common on the night of January 11 2019 someone was very very angry this someone started to physically attack their spouse they had rage they were choking their spouse smothering their spouse that someone was Michael redlick and Daniel redlick had no choice but to defend herself because she was afraid she was going to die and so she did the state is right you are going to hear about the night of January 11 2019. you are going to hear about anger you're going to hear about hatred you're going to hear about rage you're going to hear about infidelity that made Michael redlick angry you're going to hear about a violent attack in the kitchen and then you're going to hear about Daniel rudlick and how she reacted in confusion and despair and Trauma you will hear that yes Danielle rudlick did stab Michael rudlick and you're going to hear how she reacted in that shock in that confusion and in that despair you'll hear that her reaction afterwards she runs to the master bathroom in fear from Michael redlick and this is the room that she had retreated to the night before where Michael rudlick had followed her and had kicked open that locked bathroom door and when she came out of that bathroom when she thought it was safe she sees a trail of blood that leads all the way from the bathroom to the living room and you will hear about her emotions on seeing this and that she reacted in confusion because she had only stabbed him one time in the shoulder the prosecution argued that Danielle murdered Michael during an altercation because she had evil intent and wanted a life without him that her behavior after the incident not calling for help for 11 hours cleaning up using a dating app was proof that she wanted him dead the defense argued that Danielle stabbed her husband in self-defense that it was Michael who was the aggressor in her relationship and that he cheated on Danielle but when she started speaking with other men Michael became irate and attempted to strangle her on June 17 2022 a jury of six men and two women found Danielle redlick not guilty of the second-degree murder of Michael redlick the jury's verdict indicated that they believed there was Reasonable Doubt in the state homicide case there was a lesser included charge of manslaughter but she wasn't convicted of that either however jurors did convict Danielle redlick of tampering with evidence sentencing on that charge is set for August 5th with your family right now your dad picking you up amazing this is a walk of space what's the first thing you're gonna do call my kids what are you gonna do tomorrow praise God praise God thank you [Music]
