On June 2nd, 2025 at a Dollar General in Jessup, Georgia, an offduty deputy Hedman confronted a 78-year-old man over improper parking. Georgia law states, "No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle in any place where official signs prohibit parking. But the absence of signage and Hedman's lack of uniform undermined his authority. Instead of deescalating, Hedman blocked the man's truck door, bered him, and pulled him from the vehicle, throwing him to the ground. This aggressive response driven by personal overreach caused the elderly man bruises and cuts reflecting a clear misuse of perceived authority. I came out and you standing there. He said, "You just parked anywhere you want to." I said, "No, I just said that's your truck." He said, "Yeah." So I said, "You know, that's not a parking spot." He said, "Who the you think you are?" I said, "Well, in the sheriff, I said, you know, I could call my friend down here and write you a citation. Well, go yourself. I was only in there for a goddamn minute. I ain't know no parking signs. I'm like, okay. So, you want to be that thing, man. If I was younger, I'll you up. So, I walk around the truck and his hands expired September 22. So, I attorney said, "Go yourself again." So, I got in this doorway and he kicked me in the stomach. I'm like, "You just assaulted PR." I said, "I identified myself. Put that in the chair." I showed him my identific. It's no big deal. But um all I was want to just look dude you know no harm no fell. I'm not in uniform. Got you. You know but I'm a deputy. This is no parking. Just making sure that you're aware that you can't do this [ __ ] You might want to get your tag expired for the guys on the street fight. He didn't want to get bler you and I'll you up if I was younger and all that. And he just heard him say I know I'm not supposed to be here. You know there's no handicap sticker. You know when I got to the parking lot was empty. He could have pulled any one of these parking spots. Yeah. But I just wanted to just make him aware of it. I didn't mean to call him a stupid [ __ ] that he kicked at me. I'm like nope. So they got to the ground with it. So you looking to press charges or I mean I'm I'm asking you we're going to do charges of course. Nothing like that. I really wanted to know that you know you just can't where you want to know. So be like oh [ __ ] Sorry I won't do it again. Yeah. She was only here for a minute and when it gets stupid and it kept escalating. And so when did it get physical? Like when it started getting physical, what happened? It's physical. Yes. I know. I just told him I was going to leave. I told him I wanted to leave. I mean, I didn't know it cuz he he didn't show. He said he's a policeman, but I never said never ever. I wanted I told him I said, "Well, I'm fixing. I want to leave." He wouldn't let me leave. I did push him and I pushed him back. He grabbed me. I'm 78 year old. Yes, sir. Take a breath for me. Okay. Your daughter's all shay. Well, she's back now, though. But yeah, just hang out right here. She likes pretty good, huh? She like Yeah. Yeah. I used to work with OJ 27. Yeah. says, "Hey, I know you're improperly parked around while he was trying to take off. Uh he had already told me he was a county sheriff deputy and uh I'm walking inside the door started out. Sir, you want us to get an ambulance to come check you out or anything? I think you want us to get an ambulance come check you out. Okay. He said to my buddies out here that way. You walk inside the door and that's when he's kicking the side. [Music] [Music] Yes, sir. Yeah. Do you have the availability to look at the camera? You have the availability to look at the camera. Camera? Yeah. Can Can we look at the camera? They need video cameras. You can talk to him about his waving his fist at everybody. Who was it? The one out there. The old one. Uh-huh. That old man the improperly parked one. What was he doing? He came over here raising his everybody trying to figure out who hit him or whatever. Who hit him? Raising his fist. Is that your car right now? Including me. He's talking about the guy in the truck right here. Oh, he's being talked to right now. [Music] Okay. Big ass video for sure. some [ __ ] all day. Hey, what's up? How you doing? We had better days. Yep. It's one of those days. So, it's like I told you, first of all, you don't enforce that. And second off, the damn sticky don't even enforce parking violations unless the store complains about it in uniform. I said, "Larry, you put your hands on where to go toward him first cuz he told me in a statement he snatched me by the next truck." What he told me? He said the guy on my truck. You know who that is? That is right there. Don't know who is now. [Music] Yeah, I'm good. Oh, [Music] box. I think the only camera that can physically see outside is this one. I am not sure how to do that. They have not taught me. Great spot. Okay. Well, neck liner is going to be pretty rough. Yeah. I'm not going to run on you, dude. I don't even I'm not even worried about that. I'm not worried about that. Trust me. I'm on a 210, boys. Huh? I'm deputy, too. Okay. I didn't know if you knew or not. Well, they they said you were. That's why they're here. Okay. I get it. Yes, ma'am. Yeah, you can go in. You can go in, man. I'm sorry. Get out your way. It's been one of them days, dear. I know. You're not going to be able to see one. It's going to be that way. Even though Even if I do try to rewind it, the way the sun is glaring on the camera, they're not even going to be able to see anything. We're good. We appreciate it. The sun is setting up, so you're not even going to be able to see. Call to notify him. Yeah. Yeah. We're not You can't even see nothing with the sun glaring. [Music] Margarita. Yeah. I need to be off. I need to be off. [Music] Heedman's actions at the Jessup Dollar General sparked outrage among witnesses and law enforcement present. Georgia law emphasizes that peace officers must act within their authority and any person who knowingly impersonates a peace officer shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, underscoring the gravity of Headman's unauthorized conduct while off duty. His physical confrontation with a 78-year-old man over a minor parking issue disrupted the community's trust with bystanders questioning his lack of uniform and badge. Officers on scene expressed frustration, noting, "The city don't even enforce parking violations unless the store complains," highlighting the unnecessary escalation. This incident exposed the need for stricter oversight of offduty officers to prevent personal overreach from undermining public confidence in law enforcement. It would be nice if there's a camera in here. They probably do not catch everything, but I doubt it, though. There's a camera there. It might have saw it. Mhm. Long day today. Better thing to do than deal with stuff like this, huh? Oh, this my job. Can't complain. So, I'm here for it. You mind if I sit down? Yeah, sure. Sure. [Music] They're trying to get stuff pulled up. So I I there's a lot going on. Walk me through again one more time just when the confrontation started. I came in to make a purchase. Um didn't have one. I needed to come out the truck parked there. So I waited for the the owner to come out and I said sir I said you know this is un parking lot here like he was only in there for a minute understand that I said I should have parked in this food you are anyway the sheriff I said I can tell everybody down here they can handle it no we're going to hand it right here he said if you don't mind get out of my way I'm going to get out here push like he's just trying to seriously put your hand up. We're told you where we're I said I'm just trying to make you aware that this is not and also your tact. I said that's going to get you in a little trouble as well. Oh [ __ ] They're not fired. Get out of the way. They put you in a p got struck in here. I kicked me in the stomach. I said sir. So now we're available. Now we're escalating. I said you put your hand on me one time. Now you kick me in the stomach. We're not going nowhere till I call, you know, the sheriff's office. Pulled him out of the truck, took him to the ground, called dispatch, and the rest is history. Okay. So, that's it. That's it. I mean, if you're asking me if I want to press charges. No, I just wanted him aware that, hey, he just can't pull anywhere he wanted to. Yeah. You know, uh I'm sorry, officer. I shouldn't have won that again. No harm. Yeah. said he wanted to get verbal, threatened me, he pushed me, kicked me. I'm like, "No." Even after identified, but granted, I'm not uniform. Yeah. Um, like I said, we're just trying to piece it together. Really kicking me in the ding-ding. [Music] Yes, ma'am. I know it's a minor traffic violation and all that, but No, I know. I get people waiting here. When I pulled in, somebody's waiting to go around. There was a car pulling in and they couldn't because he was there. So, it's not a big deal, I guess. And I probably should mind my own damn business next time, but I just wanted him aware of the hay, you know. Yeah. Just sit tight for us. Okay. How's Shade been? She's doing good. Going down there in Macintosh area. She works all the time. All the time. All the time. It's a good thing sometimes. Yeah. I think so. Yes. You always use the money. That's absolutely correct. She she works all the time with I I know I asked you twice already just one more time walking through what happened. See I say I came out and you standing there. He said you you just park anywhere you want to. I said no. I said I just I'm going to come in every second and uh I said I fish to leave. He said the tags out of date out do September September coming up. But uh uh after that I said I don't know I you know I may have like I said well I fix how about let me go and I did he was right door I did push the door but your dad didn't even put me in the ground I was no [Music] m just ain't What what did you see on the video? So the sun glare blocks the entire video. So you got no video to see? I got nothing. What I got is both of them he he said he got in his doorway. He said that he pushed him when he approached him. Whatever. They exchanged more words. The problem is then he came back, snatched him out, put him on the ground. You hear that there? So, so the old fell p the the truck was getting in his truck to leave. He was in between his door. So, he pushed him to move him out so he could shut his door and leave. And then Hman come back over there and snatched him out the truck. My hands are getting something else. Yes, sir. Good. The problem is he he ain't got no badge on non that's if he'd walked away from the first time I documented. So So let's square something up. I mean you said the first So he pushed him out of the doorway. What happened then? He he said they both said that he approached him and told him you shouldn't be parking there and stuff and he said Henman said that he said you like get out of here. He said that he said well sir like your tag's expired also but oh yeah he pointed out to him that his tag was expired too. And he said that uh you know he he showed me parking here then he said well all right I'm going to leave and he said he got in the doorway and he pushed him. After he pushed you, he said, "Well, I'm with I'm Wayne the deputy Wayne County Sheriff's Office." After that, he said, Well, he identified himself, not showing him anything, but identify himself after he got pushed. Yeah. After he got pushed. And then he Hman said that he then said, "I don't give a fuck." He kicked him and which in my doorway I'm going try to get you out the way. And he said, "Once he kicked him, I grabbed him. head in me, grabbed him, took him to the ground. That's when he called us. You hear all that, boss? Yeah. Problem is he's not in any kind of capacity. I mean, problem is he's not. He He said the problem he's got with his headman is got nothing on identifying himself. He's not in any capacity as a deputy or anything trying to force him to take the man out of his truck. Well, that's true. That is true. I'm going call chief real quick just let him know it's probably going to not end well with everything. Where where Oh my god. Yes, sir. Right. [Applause] Battery. Yeah. [Applause] Battery wants to sit down with you got to move for kidnapping. Yeah. That's one big boss impressed about cuz he he didn't let him leave. Looking at the battery. I mean, you charge whatever you want. Oh, yeah. No, it's just I'm not trying to clean. I'm just talking. It's just I wouldn't expect this on Sunday afternoon. Yeah, me neither. I mean people off duty off back smoking weed next and I'm just like get my car but I'm looking I mean he's 78 years old he got pretty good marks on his damn arm where he was skin up too and that he shouldn't have never been in that situation this far. Oh, okay. All right. Yes, sir. Are you going to go down to jail now to get the front cleared out so y'all come in there and do what y'all going to do? They can book him in and all that. You know, he's going right back out. Yeah. But that's that's not influence anything you know cleared out. Y'all get y'all go in there charge what you going to charge it with. But it ain't got nothing to do with that. Yeah. I mean the jail gets gold. Okay. teach kind of geared out until they do. Yeah, cuz what I what I'll do is probably take him up there, go ahead and do the warrants, call the judge. Um, get all that knocked out before you just later, whatever. Just put it on. Yeah. Sheer. Yeah, that's like what it's looking like. What is that like? They don't do what they going to do and then we'll do what we going to do. You know him pretty well. He works in New York. I didn't know I didn't know if he keep him calm. But he already as me when I was telling him he was wrong. He going to take me down. I said I ain't saying that just yet. I said I'm not trying to tell you I'm locking you up. I'm trying to tell you where you was wrong. We got to do something. You know his daughter knows more about we don't. All right. Hit him. You got the gun on you? You got the gun on you? No. Take a ride. Okay. I'm going just put them in your front. Okay. As soon as we get there, we'll get him taken off. Um the truck locked up. No, it will be lock it up. What's going to happen? You're going to go down there. You're going to get boot in. You're going to get put right back out on the chair. Put your hands up here. So, that's where we're going at with it at this time. That's your ass. No matter who you are, charger battery. I imagine that's what the charger is going to be. Maybe elder abuse. 80 years old. Huh? He's almost 80 years old. It may be elder abuse. I don't know. That's up to the city. We ain't charging. Okay. We'll walk over my car. 143 over here, please. Yeah, we Hey, will you give him a case number? 104 1258 Sunset Boulevard 8858 Sunset Boulevard 88 Hedman was arrested and charged with battery, false imprisonment and elder abuse. Under Georgia law, a person commits the offense of battery when he or she intentionally causes substantial physical harm or visible bodily harm to another and Hedman's actions met this threshold. Detaining the man against his will constituted false imprisonment. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office fired Hedman and revoked his arrest powers the same day, showing intolerance for officers exploiting their position. This incident questions the line between public safety and personal overreach by offduty officers. Georgia law specifies that offduty officers may act only in specific circumstances like witnessing a felony and must identify themselves clearly. Hedman's intervention over a minor parking issue without a badge or uniform escalated into violence driven by personal vendetta. The community's distrust, voiced by an officer noting, "The city don't even enforce parking violations unless the store complains highlights the need for clear boundaries to prevent law enforcement from becoming a tool of personal power."
