An officer pulls a man over for a license plate light bulb violation and within the next few seconds he'll realize the verbal battle he's about to partake in. >> Hello, you mind rolling the window down? Mind rolling the window down? All right. >> What's your issue? I'm not speeding. I'm going down to 7-Eleven to get coffee in Flagler Beach like I drink here, here, and everything else and I'm handling my life. What is your issue? I'm not speeding. I had no reason to be pulled over. Why do you harass me for? >> Okay, well, first do you want to actually listen to why I stopped you or do you want to just continue on with whatever you're doing? >> Would you please tell me why you stopped >> Okay, so first, I'm Deputy Trahan at the Sheriff's Office. The reason for the stop is your tag light is actually out. Your license plate, the temp tag you have, is not visible. It's not readable. One of your lights is out. It completely casts a shadow. >> bought this truck off of Car Time on Dave. $11,000 on the table. 2 hours later I drove it out of here. It's getting paid for and new plate put out of by the 25th and it's going to be all straightened out. I don't know what that plate light is saying because I just drove it out of here a week ago. I haven't had time to pay attention. >> Okay. >> Because I build houses for NMS and I got my last three story in Hamden and Niles Estates, 123 with 14 guys on it handed by the 23rd. So, I can leave here and go to Maine and call up my daughter. I haven't seen her 10 years. And Springfield, Mass, to hug my two boys. I haven't seen them in 10 years. So, what's the issue? It's going to be legal. You want to give me a ticket for a light being out. Here's my license. Have at it. >> All right. Do you have a registration? >> Yes, I do. >> All right. And proof of insurance for the vehicle. >> You guys are harassing me. This is the second time today, and I'm going to put a complaint in. God bless you. There's no reason to harass me. I'm not speeding. I ain't doing a [ __ ] thing wrong but trying to get out of your rotten county. And your cops that got smashed on them bikes last night. God bless them. I hope they got hurt real bad. And then that [ __ ] Flagler detective out of Ormond Beach a couple of weeks ago. That fleet of ill-suited Ormond cops. Guess what? He's got a lost job, and he ended up in the Ormond county. So, go to hell with your harassment. And you can kiss my ass. Check it on your computer. It's registered under car plate. Right here. All paid for. I own all the papers. GO RUN YOUR THING. Give me my ticket, and be on your merry way. >> Okay. So, no registration or no insurance? >> I HAVE IT ALL. YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PUSH MY harassment charge. CUZ I'M GOING TO PUT a complaint in tomorrow. >> Alpha 223 Flagler. Can you start me a second unit, please? >> Blindsided, the officer considers what options he has as he runs a man's license. After running his name, no red flags pop up, so he heads back to try again while backup pulls in from around the corner. >> License, insurance, and registration. You're on no license. Give me a ticket for that light, and see you later. Bye-bye. God bless you. You guys are harassing me. This is twice today I'm dealing with you [ __ ] And I grew up around cops all my life. My mother's brothers are cops in Naugatuck and Bethany State Police barracks. I am training the state cops, canine dogs, Bethany State Police barracks, and Southbury barracks in Connecticut. And I know all the laws, and I grew up around it. My father was a fireman in Naugatuck and Beacon Falls, Connecticut, until he got burned in a fire and died. Now, you want to keep arresting me, I'm writing a complaint tomorrow. I'll be down to talk to you at State Police barracks. Straight up. Now, give me my ticket, please. >> Do you want to speak to a supervisor on scene? Do you want to speak to a supervisor? >> No, I don't. I want you to handle me. Give me my ticket, and be on your merry way, and let me continue going down the Seven Eleven in Waterbury, and get my coffee like I was just doing. Not doing a damn thing wrong. Not speeding. I was at 40, and you're busting my balls on a stinking light. That I just bought this rig, and it's got to have the new plate put on it by Dave himself, and the goddamn light will get fixed by them because they own this truck until it's all set. Now, you can give me my damn ticket, and say goodbye to me. God bless you. >> Okay. I mean, it wasn't even going to be that much. >> Sir. Sir. You know, sit by of before you go back to your car. >> Sir, what's his name? >> Did he give you identification? >> Yeah, he gave me his ID. I tried to go to that one. He said he's not rolling his window down on that side. >> And I'm Deputy Dorsey. New deputy showed up, right? Obviously, cuz of your aggravated state, I'm going to have you step out of the vehicle for me. >> No, sir. I >> Yes, sir. >> I'm not stepping out of this vehicle. I built houses. >> Per case law offensive name of the name, I can give you a lawful order. >> And I got a >> can hear me and respond to me, right? So, I'm asking you to step out of the vehicle for me. You fail to step out of the vehicle, you'll be placed under arrest for a good cause. >> Excuse [clears throat] me, sir. You guys are harassing >> I'm giving you a lawful order to step out of this vehicle. >> Well, I'm sorry, sir. >> You can >> I apologize, but I didn't do nothing wrong to start with. You guys are harassing me twice today. Two times. Once at 7-Eleven with coffee. >> Do you have any Any weapons in the vehicle? >> I have a cat in this truck. >> Okay, any weapons in the vehicle? >> And I off Yes, I do. I have scissors. I have my work >> Stop reaching. Are you Are you Are you an idiot? STOP REACHING. >> YOU. YOU'RE bothering me, sir. >> I'm asking you to step out of the vehicle. >> pulling me over for a stupid light. You're pulling me over for a light. I wasn't speeding. I wasn't doing nothing wrong. And he's harassing me. So, God bless you. Write me my ticket. >> Meet me at the first gas station. >> The audio for this portion of the clip was sent redacted, but they're most likely discussing which steps to take next in order to get him to comply. And after making up their mind, they try again. >> He's reaching on the floor. >> Yeah, he's turning the truck off. He's turning it off. >> I'm going to pop his window if he don't open the door. Open the door, sir. Sir. What's his name? >> Bruce. >> Bruce. Bruce. What you want to do? >> Extremely high rate. >> I got a shatter ball in my pocket. He's Yeah, he's glove compartment, citizen seat, all of it. It's going to be an issue. Bruce, step out of the truck. >> You want to do extremely high rate. >> He's getting out. This is your 14th the operator of this vehicle is non-compliant. You need to step out of the vehicle. So far. Currently giving verbal commands to step out of vehicle. He's refusing. We're going to search him once he's out of the way. Bruce. He'll submit or flee. >> Yeah. What? Bruce! You want to send my supervisor? We will have to, but you want to wait for your supervisor to show up. The burner now. Bruce, this is Deputy Georgia Sheriff's Office. If you don't step out of the vehicle, we're going to break your window or remove from the vehicle. Bruce, we are going to remove you by force from this vehicle because if you do not step out Bruce, can you hear me? Deputy Georgia Sheriff's Office. You want to wait? >> Just wait for >> Huh? >> All right. Unless he starts like reaching under the seat crazy heavy, but you you already seen like the gun lighter, right? >> Yeah, it's silver, I think. It It not It's silver for sure. It's shaped like a gun. I believe it's a lighter. I don't know. He As soon as it fell onto his lap, he covered it immediately and then shoved it back in the glove box or between the seat. I have no idea where it went. Which is why I'm watching his hands right now. But he's turned up his music so he can't hear us. Bruce, it's the Sheriff's Office. He can definitely hear my knocking, though. >> Yeah. >> Bruce, step out of the vehicle. Do you have a terminator? >> Yeah. >> You want to grab the burner or the tire? >> Front. >> Can I see your backseat? >> 54. >> No, there's a cat on a leash. Bruce, you're going to be placed under arrest. We have charges on you for resisting. Bruce, can you just step out of the vehicle, Bruce? >> You want to explain to him or you want me to? >> I got you. >> Huh? >> I got you. You're good. >> Yeah, I'm good. >> This portion of the clip is also redacted by officers, but for the next 2 minutes, the original officer who pulled the man over brings the sergeant up to speed on the suspect, while the assisting officer who's taking over the negotiating portion continues trying to get a response from the man. >> Hey, Bruce, step out the door so the sheriff's office >> [music] >> here on the window so I can talk to you. >> Excuse me. >> I asked you to step out of the vehicle. Are you going to step out of the vehicle? >> I I simply didn't do a damn thing wrong. >> I'm telling you to physically step out of this vehicle as ordered. It is arrestable. >> on my license plate. >> Okay. >> Now you're telling me to step out of the car. >> Correct. >> For what reasoning? >> It's a direct order. >> damn thing wrong, and you don't belong harassing me. >> It's not harassment. >> I fed her at 7-Eleven when I came back to Ormond and that area. >> Are you going to step out of the vehicle for us? >> you're asking me to step out of the vehicle for doing absolutely not a thing wrong. 40 miles an hour, driving straight, [music] my coffee, and having my cat with me, and now you want to throw me in that county jail. Guess what? You might as well grab this SWAT team. >> If you don't step out of the vehicle by choice, we are forced to get you out of the vehicle, Bruce. Bruce. >> He's been reaching around in the car. >> Yeah, he just keeps reaching. >> You can't see through through that window there, no? >> It's what? >> It's very dark. >> I can barely see anything but blankets and bowls, I think. It's hard to see. >> He's still opening up his glove. It's like not really driving. >> Yeah, yeah. >> He's just going to go going about his day, I guess, huh? >> Yeah. We have no further disposition. >> Yeah. >> I am >> Dude, Bruce. Bruce, talk to me. >> And that's my supervisor. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before questioning if you wish. You can decide at any time to exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. >> There's no reason why I should. I only had a light bulb out. So long as I don't drop Jesus, I don't care about the rest of the stuff. Poor cat, he bought like I said, he body flopped on top of the poor thing. >> After inventorying the man's car, officers found several open pills that were not in a container and didn't have his name attached to them either. Officers also found an open Busch Light alcoholic beverage, which was {quote} half empty and cold to the touch. As a result, the 64-year-old man was given four charges: [music] resisting an officer without violence, possession of a legend drug without prescription, [music] DUI alcohol or drugs, and lastly, refusal to submit breath test. Immediately after this footage, they took him to the hospital where he was in a {quote} calm, quiet, and air-conditioned hospital room when he continued to profusely sweat [music] and was still verbally uncooperative to the point that the physician deemed him a refusal due to not being able to safely treat him. Officers then wanted to get a breath sample, so they took him down to the station and after a 20-minute observation was initiated and it was time to get his breath, he stood up and began to bang his head on the cabinet and this was deemed a refusal due to the subject being uncooperative and non-compliant. Now, back to his four charges: resisting without violence, possession of a legend drug without prescription, DUI, and refusal to submit a breath test. In court, he originally entered a plea of not guilty and the case proceeded to a bench trial, which is a non-jury trial, meaning the judge alone determined the outcome. [music] And as the judge's final verdict, he was not guilty on DUI and not guilty on refusal to submit breath test, but the judge adjudicated him guilty on resisting an officer without violence and possession of a legend drug without prescription. And, if you're wondering if he served any probation or jail time, well, his final sentencing was 120 days inside county jail. So, as a result of his actions, he spent the next 4 months inside of county jail. And, honestly, this case is a perfect example of how a simple traffic stop can easily spiral out of control. Let me know your honest thoughts [music] on this case down below. Stay safe out there, and I'll see you in the next video. >> You want to give me a ticket for a light being out. Here's my license. Have at it. >> All right. Do you have a registration? >> Yes, I do. >> All right. >> Go ahead AND LIE ON THAT REPORT CUZ YOU'RE ALL LIARS. You're all [ __ ] liars. I proven it. I only GOT PULLED OVER FOR A DAMN light on my plate. >> Okay. So, no registration or no insurance? >> I have IT ALL. YOU'RE NOT GOING TO PUSH MY harassment charge cuz I'm going to put a complaint in tomorrow. >> [music]
