As a cop, you know right away when a case is going to stick with you for the rest of your life. >> How old was she when she was seven? >> Hands up! Let me see your hands! >> Stop! Stop! Stop! >> We'll see this couple abandon their infant while they go for a walk on the beach. >> They're nowhere to be found. They've probably been gone an hour. >> You cannot leave an infant child on the beach. >> Someone else is going to assume >> Then we'll see this tragic case when a young woman's life is taken minutes after reporting her stalker. >> I don't want you to make me die. >> You would never thought he would have come and do this cuz he's just too calm. >> Then I had checked the camera and there was a footage of him holding the gun to my mom. >> But first, officers receive a 911 call from a concerned beachgoer. >> I'm calling regarding a child that it has been on a towel. A baby is probably like six months, maybe five months. >> Jeez. >> We can not find the parents. I don't know. >> It's a baby baby. >> Hey. Did you guys call us? >> Yeah. Yeah, we called. >> It's like a nice place. >> It's like you see that guy with his bag. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, so there's I guess there's just a baby left unattended. We were watching over it right now. >> Okay. So, you guys just found her down there? >> Yeah, she was like in a little tent, but the tent hasn't been around for a while. >> Okay. >> Oh, no. >> Is all their stuff still down here? >> Looks hot. >> [laughter] >> It's too hot. >> I don't know if it's all of it or if it's >> Hmm. >> So, this is the thing. >> Getting your boots all dirty. >> Uh the family's nowhere to >> Sweaty. >> I'm looking for the parents for you. >> I looked for them today. Yeah, I looked for the baby right here. >> Hello, guys. >> Hi. >> Hi, sweetheart. >> I don't know if she'll come to get you or not. >> Hi. >> Poor little buddy. >> I wish my daughter was still this little. Say hi. You all right? Do you mind if I take her to the shade now? Here, we'll We want to keep her with us. I can take her. Come here, sweetie. >> We tried to put the towel on him, but >> Yeah. >> He kept taking it off. >> I know. You go. >> Police take custody of the 6-month-old child who witnesses had found asleep in a small tent, seen here. >> Uh that thing looks like it could probably get pretty hot, and this is Florida. So, leaving your baby, like, infant baby unattended, kind of insane. >> They were there. And this is the lady that actually put the baby with us. Uh left um And we've been, like, walking down over there because she >> I've been everywhere looking for them, and I don't I mean, they left to go that way, and I heard them say that they were going to go look for crabs, but they're nowhere to be found. >> Just leaving your baby? >> an hour. And then they have a probably 1-year-old infant son with them. And then they have a um probably 5-year-old daughter, and then probably 6-year-old son. >> Wow. This is weird. >> We walked down to the sandbar down there looking for them, and we still don't see them. >> That's far. >> They've probably been gone an hour. >> What the heck? >> I've known her for over 20 years. She came, and she was looking, and I was like, "What do you need?" She said that somebody else had told her that there was an infant in here, and I was like, "Oh, wow." >> So, it's at very least going to be child neglect. You can't just obviously leave an infant on the beach unattended. >> I noticed the parents because the dad, when he got here, he was screaming at the other children. >> Our protocols are usually within, like, 10 I mean, this age, I would call I I call you immediately. But, we usually wait, like, 10, 15 minutes waiting to see if they show up. But, after 15 minutes, I we It's our duty to report. >> Yeah, 100%. Bad situation, obviously, but it is nice to see people come together to care for an unattended baby. People are good. They're going to take care of the kid. >> I mean baby baby that was left unattended completely unsupervised. The parents walked off with their three other kids and apparently haven't been back in probably close to an hour. >> Bonkers. >> They're better? >> That's better. >> The couple was arguing cuz when I was doing my walk >> Mhm. >> you know, I never I done to somebody here and he was yelling and screaming at >> We just spit up. >> Sorry. >> No, you're okay. No, I'm used to it. I'm a mom. >> [laughter] >> Babies do spit up a lot, obviously, but it also can be a sign of like overheating, so >> We're going to we're going to try and work this out. If you happen to see them or they come back >> I'll let you know. >> absolutely call us back. >> Okay. >> We don't want mom freaking out. >> Come on, patrol baby. Take it with you. >> So what do y'all do now? Take the baby? >> That is a great question. This is the first time I've had this. I'm I just started my phase two of training, so Navy crop top long sleeves white stripe they're right there. >> There they are. >> Thank goodness. >> Hey. >> Get some answers. >> They're coming down. >> There they come. >> You said mom's right there. >> Whoops, yeah that's >> Something's very wrong. Like I don't know a mom with a baby that old that would not have an eye on that baby in this situation. Never mind walking down the beach for an hour. Seems crazy. >> So right now you're looking at possibly child abuse. >> Yeah. >> 100% for sale. >> How's it going y'all? Deputy Lovejoy and Deputy Newsome of the Sheriff's Office. >> Yeah. >> Deputy Lovejoy and Deputy Newsome of the Sheriff's Office. >> us. >> So we're getting >> What's the story? >> Oh, no. >> Your infant was left She was crying. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Apparently it's been >> And alone? >> Okay. We we lost track of time. Sorry about that. You lost track of time? >> Yes, sir, we did. >> She She naps during this time. >> you have more kids. >> I I understand. She naps during this time. >> You're on a >> massive mistake. I get it. I'm sorry about that. >> Okay. Do you guys have your IDs? >> I I don't. You want me to go up to the room and get it for you? >> We'll get all this stuff down here. Uh-huh. Hey, hey. No, ma'am. >> Stay here. >> He's He's in our custody right now. >> Okay. >> She is in our custody right now. >> It's got to be hard for a mom to >> Stay over here, okay? You guys are both detained at this point. >> Can't hold your baby. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> I >> So, let's let's round up wherever the other two kids are and make sure all the kids are in one spot. >> Here, buddy. Okay. >> The reason they're doing that is because they have to do a little investigation here, and if the investigation turns up more evidence of neglect, and they have to separate the mom from that kid, it can create a really bad situation. So, just leave the kid with the deputy for now and see where this goes. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> You want me to get my other two kids? >> Mhm. Cuz this is this is a big big issue. >> Here you go. >> Yeah. >> All right. If they just want to have a seat, I just need to talk to both of you real quick, okay? >> Okay. Um >> Hey guys, can you sit >> Guys, can you sit right here for these nice people? Okay? Thank you. >> So, they seem just like really normal folks, right? But, if police work has taught me one thing, it's that you really don't know anybody. You have no idea who these people are or what they're capable of, and unfortunately, you have to treat them accordingly. >> Okay. >> So, at this point, I have to read you guys Miranda, okay? >> Okay. >> All right. So, you have the right to remain silent. Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? >> I'm sorry. >> Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk to us now? >> I'm okay talking, and then if we feel uncomfortable, we'll let you know when we want to stop. >> That's completely fine. So, what's >> That's totally fine with Miranda. You can agree to talk, and at any time, you can stop and ask for an attorney. >> What's going on? >> We're out here >> Start Like, just start to finish for me and what's going on. >> So, we we're traveling from Houston. We're out here on a family vacation for fall break. Um >> these are our four kids. That's our baby. It's that was her tent. These These three wanted to go on a walk. This is her nap time. She only naps for 2 hours. So, we just walked down here short. My two older ones, they took off. We were getting too far ahead. I was chasing after them. And then it it ended up being a longer walk than what we had planned. And she was she's awake from her nap. We had her in the tent, so she was covered. Wasn't in the sun. That was our logic. We're literally coming back, scooping her up. We're staying at the >> Okay. >> We're going to go back and grab some lunch and and shower and >> She's going to get her bottle and breastfeed her. >> So, that was that was >> Still breastfeeding. It's a young baby. >> Okay. >> I promise we haven't had any alcohol >> Mhm. >> No, no. >> really good care of our children. >> Mhm. >> It's okay, sweetheart. It's okay. It's >> So, that's >> So, we got it. We got to do some research still, but in Florida, this where I'm looking at now, it does constitute child abuse. The guy that she was left She She cannot care for herself. >> Yeah. >> She was left for what would be an extended period of time for her age, which >> Okay. >> way too long. And you guys weren't here. And then someone just happened to wander and see >> We were right here at 11:15. >> playing in the water up here. >> Okay. I'm telling you guys we have multiple witnesses that have said you guys were not at least here. >> I do promise I We didn't even leave till after that. >> Well, right now we're having the fire department come check her out just cuz of the time frame that we have. Okay. This is a situation we have to look into and take very seriously. Cooperative at least. Do you want me to write her name as well? >> Yeah, full name, date of birth. It just makes it easier cuz then we can pull your driver's license on our master. >> I'm going to need everybody's info, including the kids. I have to notify DCF. >> I just really worried she doesn't have any sunscreen. >> Yeah. I understand. >> While you're writing that out, I'll put it on. I'm a mom, too, so I got you. >> I mean, the only shade that we can find is if we move up there. >> That might be an option. Let me see if we move up that one of them, and that might be enough. >> Let's not Let's not cook the baby here, out of the sun. I don't know if I could carry enough sunblock to be an officer in Florida, honestly. It's so hot. >> Thank you. She cried one time, and that's when we got her out of the chair. Right here. Right here. Mom's >> This mom must be feeling so terrible right now. >> No, she She just spits up because she's a baby, though. >> They They were speaking about the kids running off. They didn't run off because I seen when they come in. >> Mhm. >> And uh He was He was I mean, he was talking very ugly to his daughter at the time. They were all fighting. >> We do the report, we call DCF, you guys go home, back in your room here, and DCF follows up. Or you guys both have technically violated Florida State Statute for child abuse, based on the way things are. And you could possibly both be facing going to jail today. I'm just being honest with you. >> Okay. You're doing your job. That's That's no no >> We are getting making sure she gets fed. Do we want to relocate up to the room where there's AC? Would you mind if one of the security guys just grab your stuff? Big tote bag? >> I have no complaints about anybody doing anything, really. >> Cuz they can pack your stuff, and they'll bring it up to the room for you. I'll have >> Very cooperative. The family is escorted back to their hotel room, where officers reveal their fate. >> So, Brian, right? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Hey, I'm Deputy Bassford from the Sheriff's Office. I'm going to have a little conversation with you, okay? >> [music] >> We're going to pull you guys out one by one, so we're not panicking the rest of the family. This where we're at, okay? Both you and Mom are going to get booked into the Walton County Jail. An infantile child >> on the beach for that long unattended, okay? >> So, the other option would be to just give them a summons or complaint and have DCF follow up, but the problem with that is what if they do that and leave the kids in their custody still not having a clear picture of the family dynamics here and something happens to one of the kids or the wife. [music] It's a gamble and there's already this big red flag, so they're going to err on the side of safety here, which I can't blame them and take them both in, put the kids in the DCF custody temporarily unless they can have somebody respond, which I doubt cuz they're from Texas and that's just the way it's going to go. >> Okay. >> So, we are getting charged today. Going to get booked in. Since you have four children here by themselves, we need to start calling some family to come over here. DCF's going to >> Hopefully, you have Florida family? >> have anybody. >> Okay. >> That'll drive over here? >> My my closest family will drive over here, but they're in Texas. So, that's like if they leave now, that's like 9 or 12 hours. >> Yeah. >> I >> It's a lot to ask, too. >> And I'm >> It's a big drive. >> Yeah. >> My I'm just my four kids like This is this is going to be traumatizing much less for my baby who needs her mom and so >> Which I understand. DCF >> can >> DCF's prepared to take care of an infant child child. They're going to stay with the children until your family gets here to come get them, okay? >> So, how um how does this process work? And so, you you take my wife and I >> Yep. >> and then we go to the jail. I've never been arrested before and so, what like >> So, you're going to get booked in tonight. >> Okay. >> Okay. Both of you guys, as far as I know, are getting charged with child neglect, okay? >> Okay. >> So, we're going to let you have a conversation, see if you can get some family on the way and then we're going to have you go in there, watch the kids and we're going to talk to mom. Okay. >> Okay. Let me >> My mom's going to handle this. It's going to be a rough. >> All right. So, the same thing we're explaining to Brian. So, as of right now we're going to be taking you guys to the jail tonight, okay? You're going to be booked in at the Fulton County Jail. DCF is coming down. He already called his dad. Department of Children and Families. Yeah. So, they're they're fully prepared to make sure your kids are good. They're going to come here and stay with the kids until the family can get here. He said he's already called uh his dad. Someone's going to stay with Someone else is going to stay with The Department of Children and Families. Yes, so they're fully capable and they're prepared to stay with They're just going to sit with them here wherever they decide to take them. Okay. Just take a deep breath for me, okay? All right? >> Is there any other option for one of us to stay back just for a little bit until they arrive? >> This is coming from higher than us. We're going to let you guys do your thing. I'm suggesting you don't go in the shower where we cannot see you and we don't know what you're doing. We're not going to do that. I understand you want to. It's just not something that we're going to do right now. Okay? >> Can I just go pump real quick then? >> You can pump, yeah. >> Okay, I'm going to go pump. >> Yeah. >> At least she can do that, provide for baby. >> The Department of Children and Families takes custody of the four children. Next, [music] Brian and Sarah are escorted out of the building. >> It's a real wake-up call for these two. Big time. >> Yes, in the very back is where you go. But >> It's nice they didn't cuff them. They're letting them walk out. >> He's going to get it cranked up. All right. >> Usually you're under arrest, you're under arrest. It has to be on your back. >> And then you need the cards and everything, too, you said? >> Yeah, because we'll just do all that. Put it all over. >> Oh my gosh. Huge mistake on their part, but going to jail, having to leave your kids behind in state custody. Brutal. We'll get back to their charges in just a moment, but first officers respond to shots fired and sadly the victim is already passed when they arrive on scene. Now they must unravel the tragic events that took place and hunt down the suspect. >> There's a shooting a murder. He shot her about six times. Oh my lord. >> 10-4. I've officers on the way. Do you see Do you see the female? 10-4. >> It said she was in the middle of the street. >> That's not good. >> 10-197 female down 10-4 advise everyone Yeah, she's 7. Suspect's going to be a black male. I believe it's the male we just dealt with at the lobby. >> The whole damn shot I caught the shot. I said wait a minute sounded like somebody shoot. >> Reuben >> He shot about four or five different times. >> So it does look like they're rendering aid to the victim and that's the way it is if it's obvious that efforts to help them aren't going to work. So if there's obvious injury that they have passed and nothing can save them, then we don't attempt. >> All right, I mean what did you see? >> I we saw her when she went down. >> Uh-huh. >> We and we heard the pop. Heard about four or five different pops. >> Okay. >> He left and went round this way and he came and back He came back and back again over there and then went and took off. >> Yo, put that camera down, man. Are you serious? Put the camera down. Don't record that. Let's go. Everybody move back, please. >> We checked and she was 7. >> So sad. So that's one of the officers that had spoken with her in the lobby earlier. You know his mind is racing right now. Did he do his absolute best to serve this woman in this situation? She came in, told him what had been going on. Granted, as police officers we get a lot of cases that come in as like harassment or stalking and when they're investigated elements aren't there and you know relationships kind of run hot so people get a little bit hyper-vigilant about stuff sometimes but other times they're really serious like this and they end up tragically like this scenario. So he's thinking like you know was I curious enough about past events? Was there enough to substantiate criminal harassment or stalking? Did I give her all the options? Did I tell her about going to court and getting a protection order? Did I cross all the T's and dot all the I's for this woman? I know that's what he's thinking right now and I don't know either way this is something that will live with him forever. >> 10-4 Lima 14. >> Did anybody see it happen? No one saw it? >> Lots of witnesses. >> A black car. >> This is going to be a huge crime scene and a lot of work's going to have to be done. Seems like there's a lot of people that heard this or saw it. All those statements, all those identities are going to have to be taken, put into separate reports. It's going to be big, it's going to take a long time to process. >> Who gave all the 14 hours as far as the suspect's information? Who had all that? >> Jones. >> She was just in the lobby to file like a DV report. >> Mhm. >> Oh man. >> The woman, 34-year-old Fridoline, had been shot 11 times by the same stalker ex-boyfriend she had reported to the police department just minutes earlier. While officers secure the crime scene, other units were ordered to be on the lookout for a black Honda and soon one of them found a vehicle matching the description. >> Hey bud, hey can you do me a favor? Turn off the car and put your hands out the window. Turn off the car and put your throw the keys out the window. >> So this obviously the car, the vehicle, the operator matched the description >> Hey stay in the vehicle. Stay in the vehicle. >> of the suspect. Listen to my commands. We're going to felony stop on him. >> 10-3 running. >> Come out of the vehicle with your hands up. All right. Now, just walk backwards to the sound of my voice, partner. Keep going. >> I got him. >> Pretty textbook stop. >> Stop right there. >> Textbook felony stop. >> up for me at the waistline. >> I got hands. >> Now, turn around slowly. Keep it up. Keep the shirt up. All right. >> 10-4 1 to 10 out of 5. >> All right. Okay. All right. Not him? >> No. >> Okay. >> guy's thinner. >> Whoops. So, they can absolutely do this. You can be detained briefly if you match the description of a suspect in a serious crime like this as long as the police release you quickly, forthwith. >> She said her and this guy been broke up for a year. >> Okay. >> And I guess he's been like showing up stalking her. So, I told her I said, "Next time, if he's at your house, call us and we'll come and arrest him for trespassing." >> I was going to be in the maid for him just coming to the station. He was like, "Oh, I'm going to just go I'm going to go." So, he ended up going leaving with no problem. I guess what he did is went to her house and waited for her. >> Sorry about that, partner. All right. Cuz I put you in handcuffs and detain you. I just got to get some information so we can put it in our report, okay? All right. >> I explained it to him already. Yeah. He's very cooperative. Thank you. >> you for your help. >> So, this guy's being a good sport. He understands what's going on. >> All right. We're just going to give you a case number, all right? Just document that, you know, we came across you unfortunately in this wacky situation. But, once again, thank you, all right? >> got it. >> All right. >> It's great that he's okay with it. I mean, obviously, it's ripe for a complaint being stopped at gunpoint like that and not being the right guy. But, this guy seems understanding. Good on him. >> So, you were on the couch upstairs um and the the gunshots woke you up? Okay. >> I heard two. >> Uh, just a kid. >> woke me up. And then I >> Something. >> All in together, I heard I heard about nine gunshots. >> About nine? So, you heard two first, and that's what woke you up, and then you heard more after? >> Yes, but it was just going off fast. >> I seen the vehicle fleeing in the Honda and went right on Congress. >> Which way did it go? >> It came behind the gate and went right on Congress. >> I think in here cuz there's a suitcase right there. There's another one right there. So, I don't know if it started here or she ran out. Yeah, so maybe around here. >> So, they got to set up the crime scene. They always tell us when you do this, bigger is better. You can always make it smaller, but start big, and then as the investigation progresses, they can always bring it down to a smaller size. >> God, is it the public safety? >> This morning. >> The argument. >> When I went and got my um stuff out of the car this morning. >> So, you were one of them that were arguing? >> It was a guy with dreads. I told my guy he got black pants and gray shirt. He was standing right there by the tree talking to >> He saw her head. >> These are our neighbors. Obviously. >> Yes, that's her car still right there. Yes, they were standing right there by the tree this morning. Where is my car? >> So, there was a lady that were arguing this morning. >> A 22 this morning between a male and a female. >> If I see my face, I'll be able to tell because I saw the argument in the video. >> an argument. Both of them You You both saw the argument? >> We get their statements. >> When I was walking my dog. >> Two. 53. 8:53 and 9:00. Four. >> Oh my goodness. >> Oh, wow. He's right there. >> Terrible. >> He's He's right there. >> Okay. >> He's right a little bit right there where the tree is. >> Uh-huh. >> See him? >> Okay. >> Now, he's jogging to the car. And then you're going to see him back out. >> Backs out. >> And he drives away. >> Uh, she said he had guns, but she didn't say he pulled a gun on her or anything. She didn't say she had guns. She said he had guns, and he was like, "I don't have no gun on me." When she told me the license plate, I looked around, and I have nothing on him. >> They were both there? >> Yeah. >> Oh [ __ ] What was his demeanor? Was he all mad? >> He was calm. >> He was? >> Yeah, he just like, "Okay, forget it. Okay, you don't want to be with me." >> Yeah, of course he'd be calm around the police if he's at the station with her. He's going to try to put his best foot forward. Also, the officer said earlier >> And I guess he's been like showing up stalking her. >> He used the word stalking. I don't know if he meant that in the legal sense or just like he won't leave her alone, but it seems like there was something to her complaint, so >> [music] >> we'll see. >> And I'm like, "Okay." I'm real proud of >> That's a crazy world. Like, you would never thought he would come and do this cuz he's just too calm. >> I I I understand y'all want to hang out there and I I'm not But the thing is, given this situation, you guys really want to do this? Be observers like watching somebody in a dead body, man. Honestly. >> We we having our own conversation, sir. >> I know, but you don't need to be watching this. >> Yeah, I don't know about this interaction. As long as they're outside the crime scene, there's really nothing we can do about people watching. It's going to be a touchy situation, especially for neighbors. They're probably out there kind of consoling each other just kind of processing everything. I don't know if I would take this approach. >> What do you mean watching what? You don't have It's a free country. >> Okay. >> This is my right. I pay rent over here. I'm not We're not bothering We we having our own conversation as neighbors. >> No, it's it's not that. We just don't want you seeing this This is going to be ingrained in your head forever. >> Ain't nobody We not recording anything. We respectful. That's how we >> I know, but you got You got You got young people out here. I understand. >> Or maybe you could say like, "Hey ladies, would you mind if you see any juveniles out here, could you try to keep them in their apartment or away so they don't have to see this?" Something like that, but telling them what to do or where to stand or what they should be doing from a moral perspective and not so much. >> Have a nice day, ma'am. >> Yeah, you have a nice day. >> So, your aunt in Haiti called you. She's also your aunt as well. >> Yes. >> Okay. So, she called you from Haiti saying to check on her? That's Yeah, that's her. >> Yeah, yeah, >> Yeah. Unfortunately, yes. >> when you call her back So, we have to get like a a statement >> No, it's just hitting them, you can tell. >> See what the back history is on this, okay? I'll give you some time to you know, gather your thoughts and stuff. I know it's hard. >> daughter. >> She Where? Does she live here? >> Yeah, she live here. >> Is she married? >> Hopefully, somebody has reached out to the daughter or located the daughter for this. I mean, that would be a priority, I would think. >> Sunday, yeah. >> [laughter] >> I think I'm going to search her phone, I guess. >> The last day I'm talking to her, I think >> Soon, [music] the suspect's brother and a colleague arrived on scene to find out whether the news of his crimes were real. >> What's going on? >> What what That's your brother? >> What what what? >> That girl? >> No, no, no, the guy. >> With the dress? >> Yes. >> He killed her. >> He killed her. >> He killed her. >> What the >> That's got to be some rough news finding out your brother killed somebody. >> You know, we have a business over there, barber shop. Yeah, barber shop. Happy Hiders, yeah. >> Over on iPhone North? >> iPhone 10 minute day. And he said taking care of everything, blah blah blah, he's going to He called his son already to come cuz his son lives in Orlando. >> How old is the son? >> About 20 something years old. About 23. He's going to Yeah, he called his son to come here and then he told me taking care of the business with his son. When I asked him, "Why? What's going on?" He said, "You know, he doesn't have to say anything." >> So, he got a call from him earlier saying that he's not coming today and then he's going to die. >> Did he tell him Did he tell you why he was doing >> It's a shame he didn't report that. >> So, he didn't give him an explanation why he was >> You know your brother's in a relationship >> Yes. >> Yes. Okay, how long have they been? >> Uh >> About 2 and 1/2 years. >> Okay. And do you know if they are Is there any problems? >> Yes. >> Okay. What Do you know what the problem stemmed from? >> They all excited, okay. >> And you know why? >> Uh jealousy. >> Okay. >> That tracks, [snorts] that makes sense. >> Do you know if they were fighting about anything in particular today or in the past few days? >> At the same time, a BPD officer had located the suspect and had followed him to his residence. >> [music] >> She positioned her vehicle at a safe distance and began reporting his movements over radio while requesting immediate backup. >> He's in the alleyway. >> He's in front of the garage now putting something in the garbage. >> That's premeditated. >> Sounds like he's putting something in the garbage, maybe a murder weapon. We don't know. I do know that if you dispose of something in the garbage and it's on the curb, the police can search that, no problem. If it's in your driveway or by your house, like in your curtilage, then they probably need a warrant. >> He is walking towards the front door. >> Same shirt from the photo, red. Same green pants. He's still standing outside by the front door. >> Four times you should see the car close to the driveway. Units are moving in right now. 10-200. >> It's going down. >> 10-200. Officer down. >> You'll get him. >> Gun in his pocket. >> Oh, pinned him in. Contact. >> Hands up! Let me see your hands! >> Stop! Stop! Stop! >> I got him. >> Stop talking, you're good. >> So, you can see these guys are super excited. They want to bum rush, go right in. I think that's a solid move by the initial contact officer saying, "Hold on. Let's issue some commands and see where it goes." >> Driver, listen to me. Keep your hands up and walk backwards to me. Walk backwards to me. >> I got I got >> I got him. >> You're good. You're good. >> On your left. On your left. >> He's walking him back. He's walking him. >> I got him. I got him. >> I got him. You're good. You're >> All right, 10-200, he's compliant. >> 10-200. >> Wait, we got to clear the car. >> I got him. >> Yep. >> Ready to go? >> Super cautious, got to clear the car. Remember, a son was mentioned earlier. You don't know who else he's with, who else could be in the car. They just got to be very careful and tactical. >> You're all loose. You guys did a good job on everybody. >> Do you have any weapons on you? >> No, sir. >> Everything is in my car. >> Everything is in your car? >> I don't live here. I'm just going to give you some information on me. >> Okay. >> I was just about to call that guy, sir. I'm good. >> Do you speak English? >> Yes, ma'am. >> No, like good? >> Very well. >> Oh, no. I just want to make sure that if you need a Creole translator. >> No, maybe 20 years ago. >> Okay. All right. >> Officer, one question. Is that okay for us? >> What do you got? >> My car will stay here? >> Uh for now, until we tow it. >> Okay. No problem. >> We'll definitely get a search warrant for that car. >> for my brother, for my son in there, also. >> Okay. >> So, they're going to try not to talk to them until there can be like a official sit-down recorded interview by homicide detectives. They want it done the right way, recorded, because you don't want to screw up a murder investigation. >> I don't care what that lady says. The blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus. I'm not crazy. The blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus will prevail. We're pray- We're sorry for your loss. We are sorry for your loss. >> I kind of was wondering if this would happen. The suspect's family showing up, brother, entourage. I was wondering if it was going to cause problems. Looks like it's starting to. >> We're Uh stop. Stop. Stop. >> They were right over the line there before. >> Stop. Stop. No weapons formed against me shall prosper. You don't know me. I've been corrupted. Sir, she was just praying. It's all It had nothing to do with you guys. I know you. Stop. >> She was kind of aiming her prayers over there. Tensions are on high. >> She was She was praying earlier, and then I guess they felt offended by it. >> We don't want to help in them, girl. >> Yeah, you're good. >> We can tell y'all can't control your anger cuz your brother came here and shot that lady. >> Oh, boy. >> You good. You good. Don't even waste your time with all that. Don't even waste your time with all that. >> Officer, officer, I can't hold it anymore. >> Okay. All right. Let me We're going to let you piss. Relax. >> They're doing him a solid here. Doing him a liquid, rather. Wow. >> Not on the car. >> I'm sorry >> The note that Robbins had mentioned earlier, which he left for his brother and staff, contained an apology along with details about the responsibilities they would have to take on after he was gone. Police also found a semi-automatic handgun in his car, >> which was hollow point ammo there. >> Still, there was a lot he had to explain about his motives and what angered him to the point of killing the love of his life. >> Let's start from the beginning. What what happened? >> Who started all this? I would say that I'm sorry about whatever happened. I've been here for 29 years. This is the first time This is the first time stuff like that happened to me. For the last >> I would hope so. >> 2 years we together. And we moved in together. >> It's a tough part about interviewing a suspect like this is you kind of have to ingratiate yourself to them. You kind of have to make them feel comfortable, make them want to talk. This guy seems like he's already come to terms with what happened and he's been pretty cooperative. Seems like he's just going to tell them the story. >> We talked. She's back. The second time she moved back out. >> Oh, if you hear anybody knocking, don't answer. She used to tell me that. >> Mhm. >> But [clears throat] we literally got a camera because of him cuz he kept stalking her. >> Poor kid. >> And I had checked the camera and he was standing to like this side of the door and knocking this way so the camera couldn't pick him up, but the camera he did pick him up. >> There he is. >> I was trying to work things out, you know what I mean? Because >> Well, every relationship's got troubles. >> tried to work things out because >> Trying to kind of relate to him. Can be like, "Yeah, every relationship has trouble, you know. I get it." Keep him talking, make him comfortable. >> I hate starting over. Uh I've been trying to work things out. And at the end of the day, she refuses everything. She refuses everything. And then uh yesterday I went to her job. She got off and uh she was uh there. I told her, "Hey, I'm I'm going to wait for y'all so we can talk." >> Obviously, this guy's not getting the hint. She wants nothing to do with him and he seemingly thinks that this is okay. I'll just keep being persistent. [music] I can I can fix this. Definitely something off. >> She was like, "I'm not coming home, whatever, whatever." I was like, "Okay." I spent my whole night there sleeping in my car waiting on her and she never showed until 6:15. She's waiting her daughter to work to school. And then after that, I said, I said, "Let's go ahead and let's go ahead let's go ahead and let's talk." She was like, "No, I don't want you to go to my house. I don't want you to be in my house." I was like, "Okay, why? Why it should be like that? After all we been through, I don't see why I deserve all that. You know what I'm saying? I I don't deserve all that. You know what I mean?" >> You mentioned something about you stalking her. What is What did you mean by that? What do you mean by her >> Going to step out. I'm stalking her. >> Coming into the parking lot and stuff like that. >> Okay. And how long has that been going on? >> It's It's always like that. Whenever my mom's home or at work, he's always calling my mom, texting my mom, or coming to the parking lot. >> And then she stopped driving from Congress to Minor work and come here. >> To the workplace? >> Yeah, she make her boyfriend like she don't want me to be there. >> here, right? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> And I don't know the extent or the whole report that she gave, but I'm guessing she told the police that she was in fear of him, that there was all these repeated events of harassment or stalking. I would assume that's what she reported. >> You got an argument. You just don't want to deal with him, right? Anything you want to say to her while you're here? So, you get it. She don't want to deal with you no more, right? >> Was he out of the game? I don't want to You make me die. >> So, 1 year ago, she don't want you no more. You can't fix this, okay? You got to find you a new new boo, okay? Work on a new relationship. Yeah, I'm done. >> She said I don't She don't want me to be around around around the the number one this that this that, and I I feel like she put me down like like Sorry for the word for like >> She got out of the apartment. Um she was on the phone with her sister. While she's on the phone, she yelled, "Robin Robin's came to kill me with a gun." >> Okay. Need you to be a little bit more in detail about what happens exactly after you leave the PD. >> After after I leave the PD, and uh we both take money we go back to our car. >> Separate cars, right? >> Separate cars. I was I tell you the truth, I was trying to still see if she can Because you know, sometimes when you try to calm down >> What? >> And were you pissed that she came to the PD? >> I wasn't pissed cuz I'm not >> You just felt like [ __ ] though, right? >> I don't believe it. I just I'm the one who work she work by herself, and I work with her. I was like we both work together, and I don't see the it wasn't making no sense to me. I said, "Hey, let me walk back out of here." When I was walking back out of there, I saw the officer he was like, "Is that you?" or whatever you say. >> You weren't pissed, but you just wanted to talk except you shot her all those times? >> I was like, "Yeah, and we go and we discuss what we have to discuss, and then he make I left he make the report, and then I go home I go I go I I tell you the truth, I go back to her spot. I feel like I'm I'm whatever. Like I said, 5 years just to leave I'm not going to because you know, I'm not going to try to defend myself just to leave the earth. Just to make things a little bit easy for her. But she's the type of person that never understand, never satisfied, never happy, never understand me. And you guys might I'm telling you straight up how it is. I will never see her and somebody else another guy. You understand what I'm saying? >> Yeah. >> I don't This is not me. I will never see her end with somebody else. And she's the type of person that she is. She like to show it off. I was like, man, [ __ ] it. I was waiting for her still to see if she can try to talk and whatever. I tell why she do that and she was while she was on the phone I was like I was like, man, [ __ ] it. Cuz my head is twisted too much for me. I can't hold it anymore. >> Yeah, you snapped. >> This is not something I It's funny or I just do it on purpose, but hey, life goes on. >> Obsessed. >> What happened after that? >> And then I like honestly 8:39 she had texted me. Okay. >> I have to say this girl is very well composed for the events that have happened. It's got to be incredibly difficult. >> I just left her on read. And then I was going about my day usual. And then when I was like in second period, I was doing my work and then I had gotten a WhatsApp call from my aunt and she was freaking out. She said, oh to school if you could get permission to go home because I was on the phone with your mom and I heard gunshots. I think he killed her. And I called my mom. She didn't answer. And then I had checked the camera and there was a footage of him holding the gun to my mom. >> Okay. You saw that on your your phone. >> Yeah. >> The Ring camera footage captured Ruben's raising the gun right before the first shots were fired. According to witnesses and forensics, he continued firing 11 shots as she desperately tried to stop him. >> So sad. The absent parents both posted a $1,000 bond and were released from jail. Online records show Brian and Sarah were later granted pre-trial diversion with conditions requiring them to complete 25 hours of community service, attend a parenting class, and pay fees. If all conditions are met, the state attorney will not pursue prosecution. Ruben was charged with first-degree murder and is currently held without bond awaiting trial. The victim's daughter filed a $5 million lawsuit against the city of Boynton Beach and officer Germain Jones [music] alleging gross negligence. According to body camera footage, officer Jones allegedly mocked Daniel's accent, downplayed the threat, and failed to separate her from Caesar who had followed her directly into the station lobby. The city of Boynton Beach later filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. City attorneys argued that under Florida law, police officers do not have a legally actionable duty to protect individuals from criminal acts committed by third parties. In March 2026, a Palm Beach County Circuit Court judge heard arguments opposing the dismissal. The judge gave both sides additional time to file written arguments before deciding whether the lawsuit could move forward for mediation or trial. An internal affairs investigation by Boynton Beach Police Department resulted in officer Jones receiving a 2-week suspension without pay along with a mandatory 120 hours of domestic violence training. This is exactly why domestic laws are so strictly enforced. It's extremely important to take a detailed statement from the victim to determine what action should be next to best protect them with the hope that something like this can be avoided in the future.
