Uh, this is my mom's store. I work here. Please be mindful. >> What's going on? Okay. >> Thank you. Hi. >> Hi. >> It's me. >> It's me. >> All right. >> What we got going on? >> Um, so when we came in and opened this morning, my employee realized the alarm was not set. >> Okay. >> The alarm code was not set, so there wasn't beeping like it normally is. And then when she turned on lights and things and proceeded, she saw things were kind of disarray. >> Okay. >> Um >> What exactly was disarray? >> So, this display here all of this front facing part was like all disheveled. I have pictures of it. And then as you can see, there's holes in here. This is always very full, so we know about theft or not. So, these missing holes are all missing. >> Okay. >> And then um our cash drawer has a key that's in our front desk area. All of the drawers were open to find the said key. >> Okay. >> Key is gone, but this the cash drawer is still here. >> Okay. Do you guys have any cameras inside? >> We do, but they unplugged it. >> Okay. >> And we don't have access to the actual footage. Like there's a code that you have to put in. And so when I got put on as a manager, the manager before me was fired. So, I didn't learn any of that stuff. >> Okay. Okay. Um do you have an itemized list like how much was taken roughly? >> couldn't So, when I talked to the first dispatcher, they said not to touch anything, so I couldn't do inventory, but I did run the inventory. We just haven't actually cross-referenced what it is that's missing. >> Okay. >> And obviously he's not touching stuff because we don't think anything over here was taken, but he I helping a patient, so >> Okay. >> So, I don't actually know what's taken from the Oakley yet. Well, stop what you're doing. >> [clears throat] >> Put it at your desk or do whatever with it. >> Okay. >> So. >> Okay. Um yeah. >> already one thing that I always keep full because this is an easy way for me to see if somebody was taken if the journal was here. >> Okay. >> Um but let me see. I'll show you that. So, the main thing now is we can't open the store because I don't actually know if I have cash in my cash drawer. >> Okay. >> They've taken it. >> You still have the checks? >> We don't have the key. >> the key. >> So, I'd have to literally break it in order to see. And so, this is how they >> Where's the cash drawer at? >> It's in my office. >> I forgot that cash drawer, but that's where the key is located. >> Here, right here. And I was told for you guys to have to do fingerprinting if you needed to or what have you. But, this is what it looks like and this is supposed to be how it is now. This is >> Okay. Okay. >> And then, like she walked past and this was a like you have to be very tidy so we know things are what have you. >> Right. >> But, this is how the drawers were when she got here. >> Okay. >> Like opened like this. >> So, besides this main area, nothing back there has been touched that you know of? >> rooms are fine. Just this front area. >> This area right here. Sorry, do you mind if I come back and have a little look and stuff like that? >> This is the contact lens area. Nothing was taken from it. I literally in my office nothing was touched other than the camera. Which is still unplugged and this is where it's unplugged here. So, this is the cash drawer where we were told to >> Have you tried plugging it back in? >> No, I didn't know where it went to be honest. >> That, no. Damn it. Okay. Let me have a look cuz I think we can might be able to see if it captured stuff. Aha. When? >> [snorts] >> And then what kind of key is this? >> It's It's literally just a small bolt key. It's very very small. >> You don't have the combo? >> It's not in the safe. It's in the bottom drawer. >> Oh, got you. This one? >> Yeah. See if you can pull it out. There's never anything in that one. >> [snorts] >> And that one was unlocked? >> Mhm. >> So, they did look in that. >> Mhm. That would be my guess. >> But there was nothing actually in here? >> Right, correct. >> Let's see if you can make that work. Bing bong. And I hate that they have these orange peel style like coatings on these safes cuz you can never freaking pull prints off of them. No. Let's see if it's photographable. But why would you shut it again? Can't see if there's anything down in there. I don't see if they have a key to this. This smaller one. It's like one of those touch keys that you hold to this. It's probably easier to pry open. What do you think? Step one, step two, control. I don't know what these are. I don't see a print. That's weird. >> safe, I believe, before that box. >> Okay. >> I think. >> I was just >> I'm pretty sure they're the different things in there. >> Okay. >> And you don't know of anyone who would know that you the access will where the key was. >> Um no. I mean only employees would know where the keys are. >> Okay. Or ex-bosses, right? >> Or yeah. Um what you call it? So we had carpet cleaners here on Friday, but we had somebody close us up after them. So it wasn't them. And then we have regular cleaners that come in on Sundays. >> Why doesn't this work again? Can you tell me again? >> The passcode. I don't know the passcode. >> Oh, okay. >> Do you have managers? >> Does the owner know the passcode? >> You need to go help the patient lock the door or somebody's at the door. And lock the door after you're done, please. Say it again, so >> Does the owner have the passcode? >> I know this has gotten real messy. >> [music] >> Okay. So door was unlocked. >> That's why. Can you walk him to downstairs? >> Door was unlocked. Code was off. >> Yep. And then the drawers were open. >> Who normally locks up? >> Um so after the cleaners, I had an employee lock up on Friday cuz we had carpet cleaning on Friday. So she locked up. And armed the building. So we had to wait till they were done. She checked everything. >> Do you have access to see if the the system was armed or not? >> Yes. >> You can go up. So you do know that it was on. >> can call them and ask them for a log of like >> Have you done that? >> I haven't done it. They said to wait for you guys to get here. >> Okay. Let's go ahead and do that. Give them a call. A log would be great. Um cuz if she in did fact >> lock it >> lock it and and put the code in, I'd like to see who >> So the hard part to that is three of us share four of us share the same code. >> This just keeps getting better. >> It does. And this is because somebody got hired before me. So when I got put on nobody said, "Hey, this is the code." because obviously she got hired. So she could have showed me the codes to how to change codes or what have you. >> Well, we can at least confirm if it was >> Exactly. >> used or not. >> Correct. Yep. >> Okay. Let's do that. And then let's get the inventory. >> Okay. >> Uh so those two things will be your homework. >> Okay. >> Um yeah, this is hard. This is not >> I know. I just I just came I just came. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, this is going to be an insurance claim more than anything else at this point. >> I knew I knew it would be messy. >> I this is >> And I >> Do you have any reason to believe or anybody that you would be suspicious of? Here, look. Come inside. Do you have any employee that you suspect >> I mean >> would be responsible for this? And why? It's okay to make accusations. >> Okay. I want to say yes and no. >> Okay. >> And I say that because she goes through hard times. >> Okay. >> And I've known that because she has had had to ask me for money. >> Okay. >> And because she has to travel to a different clinic and she doesn't have money for gas. So I've given her $20 here, $20 there. She does pay me back, but it's still because I know she's going through hard times. >> Right. >> And so to know where certain things are, again the how do you open the lock and where it's at, she also proceeded into the building. She didn't step back and say, "Oh shit, this is weird." She kept going. If you knew the door for unlocked and >> She told you that that she found it? >> Yes. I mean, yeah. So when she came in here she was like, "Oh, the door was unlocked and the alarm wasn't, but I had to pee, so I just continued." And I'm like, "What? You know protocol is if you don't if the two things if the doors are unlocked and you don't hear the alarm code to go off and you're supposed to, why Why you keep going?" >> Mhm. >> Then she's like, "Oh, wait. It's weird in here." >> Okay. >> So, it it kind of doesn't really add up. >> Cuz it looks like an inside job. >> Yeah. >> It has to be. I mean, whether it's the cleaner or it's her. >> And she has She's one of the four people with that code? >> Nope. She has a different code. So, that's how I'll know also. Cuz if one and you know. >> Will you write that down? Okay. So, let's do this. Let's go get that log. >> Okay. >> And then that's going to give us the bright and time. >> It It doesn't have a time. >> And we'll we'll we'll go down that path once once it opens up. Yeah. >> And then where should I report my log to and the inventory once I have that complete? >> How long do you think that would take you to do? >> Maybe an hour or two. >> You can get back with us. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Um Yeah, I'll send you a school community access online. Um >> However, >> to cell phone number or email section. And then you can just upload it to us. >> Cool. Okay. Yeah, cuz it just doesn't make sense. I'm like, that's the number one rule for us is if things are already suspicious, you're supposed to step out and call me and then call 911. >> Do the employees know that every time they use their code it's logged? >> [snorts] >> I mean, a smart person would, right? >> How How long would >> Smarter, experienced, yes. Would that take you an hour to figure out as well? >> Um I don't think so, but it's like I was telling him, there's four of us that have the same code, but I can identify at what time would that have [clears throat] been. >> Right. Got you. >> It's just the hard part of like, I can't say it was you that did it. You know what I mean? But I can now ask my cleaner, "Hey, what time were you guys logged in as to be cleaning my clinic?" Cuz then I put those pieces together. >> Let's Let's do the log first and the inventory second. >> Perfect. >> Let's lead with that because if we can get a solid suspect, we can always interview them. Yeah. >> If you got a similar key to that, I might be able to jiggle it open. >> Okay. >> Bump key it. Essentially. Do you have a restaurant break-in? >> Um Okay. >> And then check it Just down there. >> Down the hallway to your right. >> Oh, I see the sign. All right, fantastic. Okay. So >> She opened. >> What time did you arrive here? >> It's usually between like 8:20 and I called you at 8:31, so I would have been here 8:24 or 8:25 cuz that's my normal time. >> Okay. >> What is your birthday? 15 >> Okay. >> Kept swiping. I needed a call and he's driving me the log. >> So you got here actually why don't we just step inside of this room real quick. You have a seat. Uh no, we're just going to sit in here. What is that? >> No, this is cuz I'm going to call the >> Okay. Yeah, yeah, just have a seat. All right, so you got here at 8:24 or 8:25? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And this is all recorded by the way, just part policy. >> Well, that's fine. >> Um All right, so just kind of walk me through what you saw, what you did. >> So I came in and went to unlock the deadbolt. >> Okay. >> I was like, "Okay, well that wasn't locked." Went to unlock the bottom part. I'm like, "Well, that's weird cuz it's always glitchy. I always open the second one first." >> Two separate keys or same key? >> Same key. >> Okay. >> And then so then I just put the handle down and door opened wide open. It was like >> Okay. >> 1378 Um and then I come in and I can tell that the floor people had been here. >> Okay. >> So I come around >> What When do they normally come? >> It's not normal. We set it up. I guess they were here Friday. >> Okay. Today is Monday, so they were here. How could you tell that they were here? >> All the furniture in the office is scattered. uh Some in her office behind the >> They do that every time? >> They do. >> They just move it and they don't move it back? >> Let the carpets dry. >> Gotcha. Okay. >> they're lazy. I'm guessing to let the carpets dry. >> We'll give them the benefit of the doubt, right? >> Try. Um so then I come in to set my stuff down. I'm like You see the chairs. That's awkward enough as I'm walking around. And then I see the drawers. I'm like This is weird. Again, I'm still on this is just weird. I have to get in my office. >> Okay. >> Set my stuff down. Go to the back. That's when I saw the pair of glasses on the ground. >> Okay. >> So I go to the bathroom. You need to >> glasses where? On the ground? >> They were I mean I can point to them. >> It was just in this main hallway? >> Yeah. >> Sitting on the floor? >> So where's the rack of glasses? This is the last rack before you head down the hallway on the right hand side. Right under there. >> Okay. >> And then so I go to the bathroom. I turn on my visual field as I normally do. Come out here. Look again and then call Alicia. >> Okay. What was the first thing that kind of made you made you realize that something was wrong? >> It was odd that the door wasn't locked. That was the oddest. But when I came in and I saw the stuff moved, I'm like Maybe they just forgot to lock it. You know? And that's I just wanted And but then that's when I realized too that the alarm wasn't going off. >> Gotcha. >> So I'm like, okay. >> Do you normally open up in the mornings? >> I open up in the Yeah. First first thing every morning. >> And so you always end up punching in your alarm code. >> Oh, yeah. >> Okay. And you have your own code separate from everybody else? >> Yeah, I was given mine years ago. And everyone else has the same one. It was with a different manager when I was hired. >> Gotcha. >> She's like put in your own code and >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So what's what's protocol for you guys if you notice something's wrong? Like what are what you know, what's the company policy as far as what you're supposed to do? >> Well, talking to Katie this morning, she said if I notice that obviously the door's unlocked and the alarm's not open. If I don't know uh Uh, if someone's here, just immediately do not go in and call the cops. >> Okay. Is that something you guys have discussed prior to, or is that just first time you're hearing it this morning? >> I mean, I don't think we've ever had a discussion. I'm not sure. We've never had a discussion, but >> Okay. >> I know it was going to take me And that's what I told her. And that's why it took me a few minutes of >> Sorry to force that sensitive issue. >> I'm just saying like I would have, but I came in for a reason. Obviously it opened. Notice things were aware, glasses, went to the bathroom, saying ball. >> Okay. Do you remember what time you called her at? >> I called her at I called her a little bit earlier, but I sent her photos at 8:31, which means I would have talked to her probably around 8:25, which honestly means I was probably in the door at 8:22, 8:23. And that's my typical time. >> Okay. So, it only took you about 2 minutes from >> Just setting stuff, yeah. >> give her a call. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I'll be right back with you. >> Okay. >> [music] >> Do you have any suspects or anything you anybody you think that might be responsible? >> No. I'm cleaning for her every day, so I feel like with Dr. When Dr. Fo was here, we would have eye drops come up missing. >> Okay. >> And we like is there dilation drops or things like that? >> Are those of value? >> No. I mean, no. They just make your eyes big and everything. Wouldn't want to take them. But he started mentioning that. He's like, "What's happening to all of our eye drops?" And I was infamous for putting them in my pocket and taking them home. They always came back. Or I'd be like, "Use Dr. Knight's at my house. I'll bring it back." But then it got to the point where we had multiple things go missing and they were just gone. >> Okay. >> There was nothing else. It was just weird. >> How long ago was that? >> How long ago was Dr. Ho here? So it was It was earlier this year. I think his last day was in May. It was like earlier this year. And it was just a couple different things. Just a couple different times that it was just like, "Well, this is odd." >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Do you think it could have been anybody in here that would have done this? >> Um >> No? >> No. I doubt that at all. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I No. >> No? >> No. I don't think so one bit. >> Do you think it was a cleaning crew then? >> I don't know. >> Or just target of opportunity? >> Well, we had carpet people and cleaning crew here this weekend. So I don't know. >> Okay. >> No, I don't know. >> So, you know, kind of myself looking at it, it does look like it was an inside job. >> Mhm. >> You know. Um So it just brings up, you know, some awareness on my part and wanting to do my due diligence and trying to talk to everybody about it. >> Yeah. >> Um but you don't think that's a possibility? Am I Am I off base here? >> I don't think I don't think that he is one of I don't think >> Okay. >> anyone Jimmy was without power up in uh you know, got because I messaged you Saturday I messaged with the group Saturday night. Hey, okay and everything. So, but No, I don't think so one bit. >> So, are you aware that um with security companies they keep logs of all the codes that have been used? Okay. If we pull a log from the company, are we going to see your code being used between Friday and today? >> I don't know. >> Okay. All right. Well, thank you. Appreciate it. >> No problem. >> And is this where the cash drawer is? >> The cash drawer is in here. >> In that room? >> Yeah. And then she will swap the shop. Yeah, and then once you need to wiggle back to here to the beginning. >> All right. >> Yeah, I'm so >> Is there a way to lock these? Did you see that? >> Yeah, it's down there. >> Stop. Stop. >> Uh I'm sorry, it's us. Hey >> Can we come in? >> Can we come in or can you can you step out and talk to us for a minute? >> Hang on one second. >> Would you call this a house or what's that? It's not really a town home. >> Yeah, it's a small strip mall. >> Ma'am, no, just got some questions and some other stuff to go through. Um why don't we just head down here cuz it's kind of cramped and I'm kind of claustrophobic. Sorry. >> Are you guys going to arrest me right now? >> Yes, ma'am. Yes, we are. >> Okay. >> Just go ahead and put your hands behind your back. >> Um can I call my boyfriend? >> We'll we'll >> in my purse. My phone's in there. >> We'll get some stuff in a second. So, you are under arrest for burglary, which is a felony. Okay? >> 173 one in custody. >> 173 one in custody. >> Hey, 173 one in custody. >> All right, fantastic. >> All right, Andrea. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right at this time to talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent you before questioning if you wish. You can decide anytime to exercise these rights, not answer any questions, or make any statements. Do you understand? >> mother-in-law's right in the bedroom. Can you go on the phone? >> Yep. Do you understand those rights? >> Yes. >> Do you still wish to talk to us? Do you want to talk to us? Give us your side of the story? I'm willing to listen to whatever you got to say. >> Can I get my purse from the car? >> Sure. Yeah. Yeah, be comfortable. Okay. So, you you obviously know why we're here, >> Yeah. >> right? Okay. So, um we had the footage. Okay? We talked to the manager. She said that during your exit interview you admitted to taking the cash and stuff like that. Okay? Um I want to find out a bit more about the frames. Okay? Do you have the frames? >> I don't. I took them with the intent of making it look like what I said happened happened. I threw them away at a garbage at Walgreens. You can check my house. You can do whatever you want. >> Okay. How how many did you take? >> I honestly don't know. A few. Was it just that case? It was just that case. >> The the Oakleys, right? >> just those. >> Okay. >> Was >> Yeah. >> It was Okay, so there was five. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, okay. >> We got that she sent me a picture of uh I'll I'll talk to you after we talk about it. Okay. Um so, yeah. Uh we appreciate you being cooperative and talking to us and telling us the truth. That is something that will go in my report and it does go a long way. Like when I write reports and stuff if people lie to me, I include that in there. I don't appreciate it and the prosecutor doesn't appreciate it, but because you told us the truth, you've been forthright with us, admitting to everything. And that will go in my report as well. And it it looks good for the judge as well. Okay? >> Can I ask why? Uh >> Are you guys struggling for money? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. And again, that's something that's going to go in our report as well. Okay? >> I was drinking. >> Okay. >> I was clean and sober for 13 years. >> What? What? When did the drinking start again? >> A couple years ago. >> Okay. >> And he just got back to work a few months ago. And I was just drinking and I just wanted a little more alcohol. And we have car payment to pay. >> Yeah. >> With everything. And another loan. >> So, you know, prior to seeing the video footage, we we're pretty confident it was you. >> I know. >> And there was a couple things that were a dead giveaway. You could probably tell by the conversation that we were having. >> Yeah. >> Um you know, I asked everybody in the office, I was like, "Hey, do you think this could be an inside job?" And everybody's like, "Yeah, probably." And then when I asked you that same question, you're like, "Oh, no." >> I don't know. >> Right? That's kind of tells me two things. One, right? >> Yeah. >> Normally, people when they answer those types of questions, right? The innocent person goes, "Yeah, that's a possibility." But the guilty person who's trying to shift blame will say, "Yeah, no, it that can't it's not a possibility." Trying to throw us off the temp of this sanction. Right? And two, the way you phrased it was, you know, "No, I don't think any of those women." Right? Cuz you didn't mention yourself, but you mentioned them. Right? Which means, "Hey, I think you're a decent person and you're not wanting to get any of your coworkers in trouble, right?" Which shows some character on your part. So does coming in confessing up and and coming clean. And so, I think at the end of the day, you are probably feeling some guilt around this situation, right? And the worst thing you could do is hold on to that. So, it's good that you were able to unburden yourself of that guilt. But, this isn't the end of the world. You know, this this is just this happened and we're going to move on with it, okay? So, we're going to go Sorry, did you need to catch up? No, you're good. Yeah, we're going to go to Kern County Jail. All right. There's a good possibility this might get downgraded, right? Prosecutor, we talked to him ahead of time. They said, "Book it as a burglary." However, because of the dollar amount and the fact that you are an employee there, there's always that potential and you might be able to plea for that. So, when you speak with your lawyer, um if you take a public defender, just say, "Can you plea this down?" And that might be your best bet. And you hopefully won't look at any jail time. >> Um >> Do you still have the cash? Okay. >> Not all of it. >> All of it? >> Not all of it. >> Not all of it. Was that spent? Was it put in a bank account? >> Mhm. Just essentials. >> Okay. How much was spent? >> I would have to count the cash to actually see. I could go in and get it. >> Okay, you want to recover that now? No? Okay, we'll worry about it later. All right, we're going to move over to my my car. We're just going to search you real quick. Put your personal items in a bag. Is there anything that you don't have on you that you want to go to the jail with you? ID, wallet? >> I probably need my ID, um my phone. Can I call my husband? His mother-in-law >> Your phone's in your pocket. >> Thank you. That's my key out here. >> Um yeah, it's Who's inside right now? >> It's my mother-in-law. >> Okay, just >> want her seeing me like >> Okay. >> I don't want her to know that I'm I I want her to think I'm helping out, at least until I tell my husband. >> Okay. We can we can facilitate that. You don't necessarily need the ID. Yeah, they The ID just needs to go in there. >> Okay. >> Um just the phone's nice when you have to make a phone call and get picked up. >> Yeah. >> But well, you can definitely give that uh your husband a call and and we'll figure that out. We'll We'll head over to the car. Just one last thing right here. >> Um what time did you arrive at the thing at the uh business? Do you remember? >> Um Well, I So, what happened is I went Saturday night with the intent that I was going to get some cash and put it back. >> Okay. >> And so, I went back Sunday knowing that I didn't have the cash. And >> Yeah, we just got to search you real quick. >> Knowing that I didn't have the cash. And um just Can you grab the bag? >> did what I did. >> Okay. Um so, that you can't go with you. Keep going with it. >> Those keys have to stay with my mother and my >> Okay. I'll put them on the back of the car, okay? >> Okay. >> Um along with the lighter and other stuff that you can't take, but um So, what what time was it around like 4:00 or >> Um between 3:00 and 4:00, maybe a little later. It was still light. I don't remember the exact time. >> Okay. >> Um I think it was before Monday night football. Cuz I was doing crafting on Sunday. >> Okay. >> So, I don't remember the exact time. >> Okay. And then did you drive that car? >> Uh no, I drove my car. >> Which Which is your car? >> Uh it's a black Nissan. My husband has it right now. >> Oh, okay. It's a It's a black Nissan? >> Black Nissan Rogue. >> Rogue? Okay. Okay. Awesome. Thank you. Well, thank you for your cooperation. It does ring a bell. >> Yeah. >> I had this feeling that it's not my fault. >> No, it's it's fine. We're just going to sit. >> I just thought you know everything back here is audio video recorded. >> Where's [music] the guy? Okay. >> [music] >> Yeah, I know. Um she wants me to stay here. >> [music and singing] [music] [music]
