Applying a spike strip during a pursuit is not only a highly effective measure to slow down the suspect's fleeing speed, but also a precise and delicate tool in the police intervention strategy. By developing units to the front line of the road where the suspect is running along with appropriate equipment, police officers can observe and act meticulously. And when the time comes, they release the spike strip onto the suspect's vehicle's tires, rendering the vehicle immobile and delaying it. The PIT technique combined with the application of a spike strip forms a perfect strategy to control and end a pursuit safely and effectively. During a pursuit, the PIT maneuver is deployed by making contact with the rear or side of the suspect's vehicle. The goal of the PIT is to destabilize the suspect's vehicle. When executed correctly, the suspect typically loses control of the vehicle. [Music] At this point, deploying a spike strip is a logical next step when the suspect's vehicle is controlled or slowed down by the PIT. Releasing the spike strip onto the tires enhances the effectiveness of this tactic. With the intervention in a suspect's tires, the vehicle loses its mobility, increasing the opportunity for law enforcement to approach and safely apprehend a suspect. [Music] your hands.
