Oh, you shot her? Did I? Oh my god. Oh my god. No, it's a head shot, dude. She's She's done. You can go get it, but that's a head shot. These were the words of Officer Sean Grayson right after he had unalived an innocent woman who he was supposed to help. I mean, you know, what else do we do? On the 6th of July, 2024, in Sangamon County, Illinois, 36-year-old Sonya called the Sheriff's office for help because someone was outside her home. When Officer Sean Grayson and his partner arrived, they searched around the premises looking for any evidence of a prowler. That's when they discovered a suspicious vehicle. Everywhere seemed calm except for the black SUV with shattered windows. Initially, the officers believed the vehicle damage was caused by the person Sonya had reported, but when they went in for a chat, her response caught them off guard. Sheriff's office, the one you called. So, what'd you hear? Um somebody outside my house, y'all. Is this your car over here? Is Is your car over here? Uh-uh. Oh. I need that. That's not your black car in the driveway? Mhm. Oh. Well, we checked your yard. We walked around the whole block. We didn't see anybody. Mhm. I You know, we don't We checked the whole area. There's nobody out walking around. I know y'all. I need that. I need that. I'm trying to get help, y'all. But What do you need help with? Nothing. I just need that. I need that. I don't know what to do. Do with what? What? What do you need help with? Nothing. I just wanted to see if I can get help. What do you want help with? What? What do you want help with? What? I heard somebody outside. Yeah, we checked your house. We checked your backyard. I walked all the way through all these backyards. We checked your front yard. We didn't see nobody, so nobody's out here. You didn't see anybody? Nope. Nope. Is there anything else we can do for you? No. Is there anything else I can do for you? Uh no, sir. Okay. Okay. All right. You're doing all right mentally? Yes. Sure? I'm mentally Okay. All right. Okay. I love y'all. Thank y'all. All right. That's not your black car, though. That's your V? Yeah. Whose is it? Uh You don't know? Someone just parked it in your driveway? Mhm. They brought it to my driveway. And just left it? Mhm. Yeah, let's run that. Yeah. Sonia was previously diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. And when Deputy Grayson asked, she told him about her medications. But that knowledge meant little to Grayson because her odd replies were visibly getting on his nerves. He tried to move past it by stepping into her house to get an idea and leave. And everything was going smoothly until the officer became extremely concerned about Sonia grabbing a pot of boiling water from the stove. What's up? Well, I got some paperwork. Can you grab that Bible, please? Yeah. Hey, I just need your name so we can get out of here. Has there Was there any damage previous to your car? Uh previous, yeah. It was. what was the damage? A dent, I believe. Well, what about windows? Oh, that It was something that happened earlier. Okay, perfect. Uh, what is your last name? Uh Sure enough, I need your last name. You're not in trouble, I just need to talk. Massie. Huh? Massie. You have Do you have an ID? That'd make things so much easier. I I just need Just driver's license will do, and then I'll get out of your hair. I want to show you all my paperwork. I want to see your paperwork. What paperwork? I got some paperwork that get your ID real quick. Let's get your ID first, and then one task at a time here. Okay. One second. Let's check on her. I don't want to do this. No, we don't need a fire while we're here. All right. Okay. I want to see it. Okay. All right. What are you doing? Huh? What are you doing? I'm waiting for your hot, steaming water. Get away from my hot, steaming water? Yeah. Oh, I would appreciate that. In the name of Jesus. Huh? You you and I both You better [ __ ] not. I swear to god, I'll [ __ ] shoot your ass in your [ __ ] face. All right. Okay, I'm sorry. DROP THE DROP THE [ __ ] DROP THE [ __ ] POT. DROP THE [ __ ] SHOTS FIRED. SHOTS FIRED. SHOTS FIRED. DROP THE [ __ ] POT. THAT was when Officer Grayson released three shots. One of them was a head shot. All because the officer was afraid Sonya would use boiling water as a weapon. I'm going to go get my kit. That was a head shot. Yeah, it's a head shot. She's done. You can go get it, but that's a head shot. Yeah, I'm not taking a [ __ ] boiling water to the [ __ ] head. And look, it [ __ ] came right towards our feet, too. God damn it. [ __ ] God damn it. You good? I'm good. You good? Yeah, I'm good. Officer down. Let her [ __ ] just God That's not what you doing, man? A thorough investigation was conducted and the Illinois State Police concluded that Officer Grayson's action wasn't an appropriate use of force. They also found out that this wasn't the deputy's first infraction on the job. Sean Grayson was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct and the judge held him in jail without bail, seeing him as a danger to society. The Sangamon County Board agreed to a $10 million settlement with Sonya Macy's family to compensate them for their loss. Sonya's paranoia played a role in her case, but the next victim was actually in danger. Yet her attacker was the one who came out of it alive. OH, NO, DON'T DROP IT! WHY DID YOU SHOOT? ON THE 4TH OF DECEMBER, 2023 in Lancaster, Los Angeles, 27-year-old Nyani Finlayson made a desperate call to 911 claiming there was a man in her house who was refusing to leave. Yes, I am. Ma'am, what is YOUR EMERGENCY? YES, HELLO. UM, I need the police here. This man, he won't get out my house now. And I already TOLD HIM TO GET OUT OF MY HOUSE A THOUSAND OKAY, STOP STOP YELLING. Stop yelling. So, who is he to you? His name is Mike Mike please leave me alone? Ma'am, my question Ma'am, my question is who is he to you? Huh? My question is who is he TO YOU? LOOK, GET OFF OF NO! HELLO? GET OFF OF ME! GET YOUR ASS TALK TO ME NOW! I'M SORRY FOR DOING THIS TO He's touching me! Hello? Stop me! Hello? Oh, damn! Yeah, I need the police here right now. No, cuz he WON'T GET HIS HANDS OFF OF ME AND I already told him a thousand times Get his [ __ ] Okay, ma'am, walk away so I can talk to you. The officers arrived to the sounds of things crashing and people struggling in the apartment. Worried that Neonnie was in immediate danger, they rushed to forcefully break the door. But then, she opened the door herself. What the officers saw made them drop their weapons. They're in the back room and they're not answering. Yep. Hold on. Hold on. Hey, come out. COME OUT. YEAH, I'M GOING TO STAY BACK HERE BECAUSE HE HEY! IT WAS CLEAR NEONNIE WAS HOLDING THE 8-IN knife to protect her 9-year-old daughter, Zaiasha. Yet, the overwhelming fear made it almost impossible to follow the deputy's instructions. The officers had initially pulled their tasers to de-escalate the situation, but when her knife started getting too close to the intruder, they switched to their firearm. That's when A TRAGEDY STRUCK. GO. GO. GO. GO. GIVE ME YOUR TASER. Deputy Ty Shelton fired four shots at Neonnie, believing she was trying to stab her TOXIC EX-BOYFRIEND. NO. NO. DON'T DROP IT! WHY DID YOU DROP IT! NEONNIE WAS LATER pronounced dead at the hospital. As for the ex-boyfriend, he was arrested and charged with offenses related to the mistreatment of a minor and assaulting an officer. He was later released pending further investigation, which would determine if the deputy's use of force was justified. As bad as Neonnie's case sounds, it could get worse. Imagine getting kidnapped, and the moment you're getting rescued by the cops, you get shot. Hey! Stop! Stop shooting her! On the 27th of September 2022 in Fontana, California, where a father took his 15-year-old daughter on a crazy road trip. While some would see this as a father-daughter bonding activity, it would soon turn into a vicious manhunt. Hi. Hey, I just called a little while ago and reported the you know the Amber Alert that was on for yesterday? Uh With the little girl and her dad? What's the address you called from? The address is 5725 Highway 58. I'm sorry. I see your call. What's going on? I think it's the girl and I think it's the dad. They're going uh towards Barstow right now. Okay. I have a picture of the little girl that was in the front. She came in and got two sodas for me. And then number eight and the guest came to me and told me it's the same uh Nissan Frontier and everything. They fake like they were going down south on the 395 and they turned around. You could see them going in front of our cameras. And he said he uh um ended up going uh east on 58 towards Barstow. The young girl, Savannah Graziano, was riding alongside her father, Anthony Graziano, the man responsible for unaliving her mother right in front of her. Since Anthony was a murder suspect, officers were dispatched immediately to rescue the young victim from her kidnapper. Units uh 40 King, just be advised the traffic's coming to a dead stop up here. Uh there's going to be way too much back drop for us to engage if he does end up uh exiting and uh making contact with you guys. If he gets in the desert All right, he's going He's making a U-turn. Uh left orbit. Left orbit. Left orbit. He's exiting at Main, but he's using the off uh on ramp to exit and go wrong way. Watch these deputies. Hey deputies, he's coming right at you on the exit. Hey you guys, he's going to lose control here as he goes up that embankment. Do we have units on Bear Valley? He's going out. All right, dude. I'm doing doing 140, dude. Everybody's on the right two. Exit. This caused chaos that would have been the perfect cover to pull Savannah from the gunfight. Sadly, the cops did something TOTALLY UNTHINKABLE. PASSENGER, GET OUT. PASSENGER, GET OUT. GET OUT. GET OUT. PASSENGER, GET OUT. GET OUT. COME HERE. UNDER ME. COME TO ME. UNDER ME. GO. GO. GO. GO. GO. GO. HOW ABOUT THE JUVENILE? IS SHE CODE FOUR? Is she handed over? That one went down. That's the juvenile. In the chaos, an officer thought Savannah was the perpetrator and opened fire. The sheriff's office tried to justify the tragedy by claiming she was armed and posed a threat. However, video evidence told a completely different story, capturing both the shooting and the officer's frantic efforts to save her life. Your shirt's clear. Straight down. Go straight down on her. All good. All day. She was later taken to the hospital, where she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. In Savannah's case, the officers realized their mistake and showed But the next officers seemed anything but remorseful. On January 24th, 2023, Seattle Police Officer Kevin Dave was responding to a high-priority call. He was driving at 74 mph in a 25 mph zone when something suddenly appeared in his path. Officer Dave couldn't stop in time when 23-year-old Jaahnavi Kandula crossed his path. The collision propelled her 42 m across the road, resulting in her immediate death. 3 Mary 2, start a supervisor start fire for a struck pedestrian. Another officer, Daniel Auderer, was dispatched to check Officer Dave's sobriety. He confirmed Officer Dave wasn't intoxicated. However, while driving back, Auderer made one of the most awful remarks ever caught on a police body cam. It does not seem like there's a criminal investigation going on. He's going 50. That's not out of control. That's not reckless for a train driver. The initially uh he said she was in a crosswalk. Uh there's a witness that says, "No, she wasn't." But that witness could be different because I don't think she was thrown 40 ft, either. Uh I think she went up on the hood, hit the windshield, then when he hit the brakes, flew off the car. But she is dead. No, it's a regular person. Yeah, just write a check. Just $11,000. She was 26 anyway. She had limited value. He quickly turned off his body camera, but the damage was already done. When the footage came out, Officer Auderer claimed he was being sarcastic and joking about lawyers, not the victim. In the end, both him and Officer Dave were fired from the police force. While that isn't the first time cops have taken an innocent woman's life, the next tragedy was caused by her incompetence and a fear of dogs. Did I Oh my god. Oh my god. On the 6th of January 2015 in Burlington, Iowa, the Steel family faced one of the worst tragedies imaginable. It started when officers were called on 34-year-old Autumn Steel, who was attacking her husband, Gabriel, in public. When Officer Jesse Hill arrived, Autumn was still arguing with and attacking Gabriel in the presence of their child. Naturally, the officer stepped in to stop her, but the family's dog saw it as an attack and tried to protect its owner. HEY! HEY! HEY, STOP IT. NOT MY KID! GET YOUR DOG! THE OFFICER CLAIMED HE FIRED two shots to defend himself from the family's dog that was attacking him, and in the panic, he didn't notice Autumn standing in the same direction and was caught in the crossfire. My dog! Did I Oh my god. Oh my god. Autumn! 38 shots fired. That's when the officers jumped into action, removing the crying child from the scene and rushing to provide medical aid, desperately trying to save Autumn's life. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god, Tim. You shot her? You shot Dog detected me. I pulled my gun and shot it and I hit her. I tried to get her away and the [ __ ] dog jumped on me. Slow it down. I dropped my skin Oh my god. I know. You ladies need to get out. Go. Autumn was rushed to the hospital, but despite all the efforts, the doctors couldn't save her. Her family then sued the city of Burlington, which led to an investigation that showed the dog didn't actually attack. Instead, Officer Jess misfired after he tripped on some ice and fell. In June 2018, the case ended with a settlement agreement of an undisclosed amount. Autumn's death was an unintentional tragedy, but what would happen if the police mistake the victim for the suspect and they refused to stop? Your hands out where I can see it. Oh. On the 27th of November 2019, 52-year-old David Ward was driving his Honda Civic home. The car was previously stolen from him, but unfortunately, he was able to recover the vehicle. That's when the deputies of Sonoma County stopped him, believing he was the car jacker. SHOW ME YOUR [ __ ] HANDS. SHOW ME YOUR HANDS. TURN OFF THE [ __ ] CAR. He tried to fully cooperate, but that wasn't enough to save him. With no warning at all, the officers grabbed David and tried to pull him out through his car window. Why do you [ __ ] harass me all the time? Give me your other hand. Give me your other hand. Get the [ __ ] out of the car. Give me your hand. GET OUT OF THE CAR. ALL RIGHT, I'm getting OUT. I'M GETTING OUT. LET GO OF MY LEG. ON THE WHEEL. HE'S STUCK, SIR. YOU GOT THIS ARM OVER HERE? You just bit me. Get this arm. I can go that side. His leg's caught on the wheel. Get it out. Get this arm. I can go that side. Get your hand out where I can see it. David's head got slammed on the car frame while he was getting punched, choked, tased, and brutalized. The deputies took the opportunity to go above and beyond, completely ignoring his cries of pain. When the officers finally pulled him out of the car through the passenger door, they made a dreadful discovery. It's possible David was no longer alive. Is he conscious? No, we need medical. He's not breathing. Hey, wake up. Wake up. He's not conscious. He's not conscious. He's coming around. He's coming around. There we go. He's breathing. While David was breathing, he was very unconscious. That was when the deputies finally decided to follow protocol and ID their victim. One of the officers even came forward admitting he knew the truth all along. Unfortunately, it was already too late. This is the owner of this car. This is David He's He's the victim of the 218. Why did he run? I don't know why he ran. All this stuff he did, he had no reason to run. But I was out with him like 2 hours ago at his house. No, I wasn't here at the time. Made a contract with the guy and got it. But he was here 2 hours ago. This is him. Move off. No reason for him to go to the hospital. Start CPR on him. Start it. Just do it. You can't hurt them. Just do it. David was later transported to the hospital where he passed away from heart and lung failure. Deputy Charles Blount, who slammed David's head against his car door frame, was simply fired. He was later acquitted of all the assault and manslaughter charges against him. In April 2021, the county reached a settlement of $3.8 million to compensate the family David left behind.
