On June 20th, 2025 in Luna County, New Mexico, deputies respond to a call about a child possibly locked somewhere on a rural property. When officers arrive, they begin searching the area until they hear something unexpected. Sheriff's Office. Is anybody here? The child was rescued by officers and a few hours later as other investigators documented the conditions inside the house. The mother and stepfather arrived at the scene. >> Hi. During transport, the man loses control and the outburst continues at the station. >> WHAT? WHAT IS GOING ON? WHAT THE [ __ ] WHAT THE [ __ ] IS GOING ON? I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? [music] >> And it's upsetting to see the cops at your house and then you get put in the cop car and then you get to jail and then you you you're watch your daughter go bye-bye. Now, where's my daughter? What? >> I I understand. What in the world is going on here? >> And >> and the person that can give you those answers going to be the detective. Okay. >> The mother told investigators she tried to let the child out several times, but the stepfather refused because she was being punished. The parents have been arrested and charged with child abuse. The two children involved have been placed in the custody of the state children, youth, and families department.
