On March 29th, 2024, Fargo police were called to a hospital after a woman reported a serious violent crime inside her apartment complex. The victim told officers the suspect, Travis Holt, lived in the same building. About 2:00 in the morning last night, my neighbor busted into my door. And I was laying in bed and I got up and and he he had punched a hole through my door. And I and pretty much brought me upstairs and I didn't have any control over the situation or anything. Um forced me. When he was done, I I left his apartment. I was scared out of my [ __ ] mind, but um I left his apartment. Thank god he didn't hold me back. Police went to Holt's apartment to speak with him, but he refused to come out. As the situation escalated, officers learned Holt had a criminal history that included multiple arrests for domestic violence and assault. HEY, FARGO POLICE. STOP. OPEN THE DOOR. FARGO POLICE. OPEN THE DOOR. OPEN THE DOOR. THERE'S A LOT OF [ __ ] WINDOWS. YEAH. I don't know. Who is this guy? He has a gun. Travis, we just want to talk. We're still talking to him through the door, but he's got a knife on him. Travis, come out so we can talk to you. Travis. It's Officer Ali. We've talked to you before. Can we just talk, man? Can you come out and talk to me, man? Travis, we're not going anywhere, buddy. I know you got a knife in that pack. Can you just drop it and come out and talk to us? We're not going anywhere, man. I promise you. We're not going anywhere. Just leave that bag in there and come out and talk to us, bro. We just want to know what happened. Travis, let me see your hands, buddy. Come out, man. >> Come on out. Just come out to talk to us. Come out, man. >> Come on out. Because of the risk involved, a SWAT team was called in to take him into custody. After hours of resistance, Holt was finally arrested. Investigators later revealed the disturbing details behind the crime. Justin, this is Toby. We're with Fargo Police Department. Hi. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be uh provided to you if you wish. Does that make sense? >> Yeah. Okay. You understand all that then? I do. So, um do you know why you're here right now? >> I don't. Um your your neighbor downstairs, what happened with her? Nothing I know of. Okay. We've been seeing each other off and on, talking. Um So, what's happened over the last week between you and Brenda? Mhm. Nothing major. Okay. Have you guys uh I guess how long have you been seeing each other? I think we've been talking for like a month or so. And is that When did you meet her? Um when she moved in. Was that about a month ago? I think so. Okay. >> know. Oh, well, I had a key. You had a key? Yeah. I had a master key for the building. How'd you get that? Um I guess it came from the landlord. I do electrical work. Okay. >> uh handyman work. Okay. And so, you and Brenda were talking. Mhm. Where were you guys talking? Over the phone? Was it >> On the teleporter. On a teleporter? No. Okay. And is that in your apartment or downstairs in her apartment or Um well, the doors are really thin, so So, she was telling you to come downstairs and Mhm. get her? Mhm. Okay. What time was that at? Um I'm not sure. Was it dark out? Was it light out? >> It was dark out. Okay. So, sometime in the night? Yeah. Is that fair to say? Yeah. I've been talking to her since since Thursday? Yeah. And what has she said? Um No. She said that uh that I hurt her that night. But I asked her when, but she didn't say. Like she's pressing charges. How'd you accidentally hurt her? Must've been too hard. Yeah. Can you explain the details here? Not really. I don't really remember. You don't remember Thursday night? Why is that? I don't know. Everything just kind of blends together. How so? Was this the first time you and Brenda had sex? No. No, this is This is third or fourth. Third or fourth time? In the last month? Yeah. Where did you guys have sex before that? In our apartment. Okay. What's with all the knives? What knives? Well, there's like a silver one found outside. Like it's a thick piece of steel and uh a little silver one was just a little pocket knife. Okay. Um when you're role-playing, do you ever use knives? Yeah. Okay. So, explain that to me. I mean, I cut her clothes off and she wore my shorts home. And just ran back downstairs. And And I never went back. I talked to her a few times afterwards. Just um just check on her, make sure she's okay. What clothes did you cut off her? Um I don't remember. She had a pair of sweatpants, I think. And a shirt. I mean, we wear old clothes or she wore old clothes for So, it won't matter because they're old. Was this the first time you guys uh or you cut clothes off from her? Yeah. What knife did you use? Um the um um the little silver one. Okay. And so I just want to recount everything that we got here. So, Brenda, your downstairs neighbor has been talking to you through a teleporter. Right? Well, then through the through the floor. Through the floors? Okay. We've talked all week. I mean We got We got talking. You've been seeing her for about a month. Yeah. And Thursday night you went down to her apartment. Got into the front door, whether it was through a key or No. Somehow you gained access. And then had her come upstairs to your apartment. Mhm. And you had a knife with you. Yeah. And then you cut her clothes off. Mhm. And then We had sex and then we talked for a few minutes. And then we were going to get high, but then I couldn't find anything. And then um and then she went home. Then I went down, checked on her, made sure she was good. You know, that was it. Okay. And we've been talking every day since then. I mean, I've been in jail now a couple days, but we've been talking since then, too. Since you've been in jail, you talked to her? No, no, since uh but since um that night. Okay. That's why I didn't I thought she would have told me she was hurt. So, these are going to be pretty pointed questions, but when you were uh how did you and Brenda have sex? Just vaginally. Just vaginally? Mhm. Was there any anal? No. Oral? No. Um How did she get hurt when you were having sex? Um I'm not sure. Cuz she's got like a cut on her ribs. Right here. Maybe when I was cutting her clothes. I don't know. That's why Yeah, I'm not sure. Yeah, I don't know. I didn't mean to hurt her at all. I figured she would have told me if she was hurt. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. That's what That's why I'm in jail. That's why the SWAT team came and everything was cuz of Yeah, so let's talk about that for a little bit. Why um when SWAT team hit your door, what was with all the resistance? I just thought it was another drill, another practice. And I don't know. I I wanted an attorney on the interview. Okay. Well, I'll leave you my card. I'll be down then. So, um you're held on GSI, which is a fancy term for rape, kidnapping, and aggravated assault, and trespassing. Okay. Holt was charged with gross sexual imposition, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and other related offenses. In January 2025, he pleaded guilty to kidnapping the victim and committing the sexual assault. A judge sentenced Travis Holt to 15 years in prison.
