Police are called to a mobile home in Wisconsin after reports of a violent break-in. When officers arrive, it becomes clear this is an extremely dangerous situation. We need to start trying to make contact. >> Okay. What's his first name? >> John. >> John. >> I found him and the breaker panel was in there. So, I went and killed all the breakers. >> Okay. So, what what room is he in? >> That's the bathroom. Pretty easy to pop that door. >> Absolutely. So right now pull this way and stand. You got to pop that. Just do this. Dwayne, you're going to go to that side. You're going to take the door. Okay. So, you're going to take the door. We'll pop the door. I'm going to want one person on the other side to pull the door. That'll be you. Chapel will have lethal. I'll have less lethal. And you've got the dog. >> When I just go into the bedroom, >> that's fine. So, you're out here. Okay. All right. I'm going to start trying to make voice contact with him until we get a phone number. Once we got a phone number now, >> John, come on out and talk to me. John, just open the door and talk to me. We're not going to come up there. My name's Nate. I'm with the sheriff's office. John, I can't hear you, buddy. through the door. I want to talk to you, John. John, I can't hear you. You put me in more danger. >> John, I don't want anybody >> away talking with him through the door. Hostage has been released right now. He's the only one inside. So, John. John. Buddy, listen. Nobody wants anybody to get hurt. done. Okay, John, I can't hear you, but I want to talk to you cuz I want to help you get out of this. >> I know you'll defend your life, and I respect that. I do. I'm going to impact him pretty much right away. When I impact him, you ready to turn him cuz I'd prefer. That would be my preferred plan. >> Awesome. Ethan, you catch what the what I just said? >> Impact him and send the dog. >> Yep, that's the plan. >> Okay. Um once I impact him, side step to your side step that way. I'm going to hug this. Just avoid crossfire. I want Mark out here because I think at this point I don't know that we can just this isn't just a suicidal person that we can let go. I think one of the easiest ways to try and get him out would be to um break and break that window mark that that bathroom fog that bathroom and get him to come out. John, thank you for letting her go. I appreciate that, John, very much. That shows that you're a good person. >> What? John, let's talk. >> I know, but I can't hear you, bud. >> My name is Nate. But there's things that you're trying to tell me and I want to hear it. >> But when I ask, you're you're saying stuff and I want to know what you're saying. Go away. >> I can't go away, John. I can't go away right now. We had to talk about what happened, but I don't want anybody to get hurt. Nobody has gotten hurt, John. And I want it to stay that way. You've You've been awesome that way. You let her go. That's awesome. >> Let go. >> What's that? >> Dude, with the traffic, I can't hear you. John, I need to know what was going on. >> Trying to kidnap me right now, >> John. I'm not trying to kidnap you. >> Kidnap me. WHY ARE YOU STANDING AT THE DOOR refusing to leave? >> Because I can't. >> You're going to [ __ ] take me. I'm going to wake up in an unknown place. >> John, because I can't leave. >> My life will be in danger because of where the [ __ ] I'm at. John, why is your life going to be in danger? >> Go ask. >> John, why is your life going to be in danger? >> Go ask Fred Nord. >> Go ask Fred in order. Fred's been gone for a long time. He's down in like Kentucky. >> Did you like Fred Nord? >> No. >> No. >> Okay. Are you injured at all? >> Oh, no. Okay. Can you throw that knife out here, John? Can you just throw that out on the floor? >> I just want to fall asleep in peace. >> What's that? >> I just want to go to sleep in peace. >> You just want to go to sleep in peace. >> Not be listening to people talking to me all hours. >> I know, John, but I can't. >> John, I can't leave until we get you outside here, bud. I can't. >> That'll happen if you go to sleep. John, you can go after you after you come out and we talk for a minute and I just figure out what's going on here. We can get it so you can sleep. That's okay. >> Why is it not okay? >> John, please. >> I'm not going to hurt anyone. So, there's no reason for me to be here. >> And John, you've done You know what? You've done a nice job showing that so far and I appreciate that, but I don't want you to hurt yourself. But I got to have you come out here with me, John. And I want it to be as peaceful as the day is long, John. I really do. I want you to be safe. Come on, buddy. Can you come out for me? But John, you I promise you, you will be safe. I just What? I told you that. John, I need you to come outside and I want it to be nice and peaceful. I want you to be safe. So, can you please come out? Just put the knife down, put your hands up, and come out to me. Okay, John. I I tell you what, dude. You come out here. I can find you a nice nice cold water somewhere. We can talk, you and me. I know, but it's getting pretty hot, man. You got to be getting hot in there in that little room. No, I just I want you to come out so we can talk. John, let's figure out what's going on. >> Huh? >> Death or justice? >> What about justice? >> Death or justice? >> Death or justice? Well, if we're going to choose something, let's choose justice. >> Well, John, I don't know what you're looking for with that. So, let's come out and talk about that. [ __ ] [ __ ] >> John. Let's come out. Nobody else. Everybody here sees that. >> Anybody here? What? >> Everybody here sees that. >> Sees what? >> You got all the [ __ ] back instead, >> buddy. There's nothing you [ __ ] did. It doesn't matter. >> John, there's nothing cocked back for [ __ ] the [ __ ] degenerate arm. John, there's >> you. >> Come on, John. >> John, what? What? >> For justice. >> I You know what? What are you looking for? >> For justice. >> What are you looking for? For justice. >> Justice. >> What are you looking for? For >> justice. >> Yep. Death or justice? >> You need justice for who? >> For me. Let's then let John let's work have me killed if he can't [ __ ] deal with it or kill too he can go where I had to go because he so come out and talk to me about this >> John talk to me about that then talk to me about that justice let's work on that let's work on that justice >> so tell me about it cuz I don't know what you're looking for >> Fred and Nord. >> Fred and order. >> What? So, >> what about Fred? I couldn't hear you. There's a big truck went by. John, >> don't let me die in vain. You guys, >> I don't want you to die at all. John. John, no one's going to die today. >> And use it to show light on everything. >> John, no one's going to die today, buddy. No one's going to die today. John, I want to know what happened today that that that you got here. >> Who's been harassing you for years? We are way too close. John, who's been harassing you for years? You guys. >> Okay. But you and I have never met. You guys. So get >> I want to protect you, John. I want to keep you safe. >> We make some headway and we're losing headway. I've got less lethal. So here's what I got positioning wise. We're sitting good with him right now with the trailer. This one right here. Okay. So we're we got a straight shot in on him. I'm actually So he released the hostage. Um right now he's got the door open and he's talking to me. At this point, because he's taken a hostage, I don't think we can just walk away from this. So, we're not going to do that. So, we can continue negotiate for a little bit. We've got a back window up there. That door is wide open. So, we've actually got a wide open shot to follow that room and drive mode if we need to, but we just need to reposition ourselves. So, that's what we got right now. We can fog from the front because that door is wide open. I think if we fall from the back, we're going to drive everything out real fast. I think if we fall from the front through the door, driver will be better off. They've got a projected jacket. Retreat. So, he's he can't go anywhere. He's in a bathroom. You got an angle on him from in here? Nothing? No angle on him? Okay. How Mark, how far down the hall do you think you got to get to get an angle on him? Quite a ways. Okay. Hey, John, just come out to the toilet so we can talk. Just sit on that one, please. That one right in front of you. I'm not coming up to you. John, I don't want anybody to get hurt here, fella. John, can you just Let's do this. Would you consider throwing that knife out here so it's not there? Cuz then I know you're safe. Would you consider to Would you consider throwing that knife out into the hall in here? >> Well, I don't want to do that, John. I don't want any weapons in there. That's why I want you to throw that knife out. >> I would prefer to protect myself, please. >> John, >> you're here to kidnap us. >> No, there's no kidnapping happening. John, >> nobody taken anywhere from anywhere. You didn't make anyone anywhere. >> John, I just want to talk to you. >> John, I just want you to sit on that toilet and come talk to me on sitting on the toilet. >> Why? >> So we can talk and figure this out. I need to know what's going on here. >> Yeah. >> And I can't hardly hear you where you're at. >> Please leave me alone. >> I know you want me to leave you alone, John. I can't leave. >> What if I walk up there? >> Give me a second on that. Let me talk to Mark. We might get to that. All right. >> So, the only negative is I obviously he's not going to get hit in the head, but I can't guarantee >> where he's going to get hit. And if he's got that knife, we're getting awfully close to him, >> right? That that makes me nervous. But I can pop. I'm going to have to step back right away anyway cuz somebody else is going to have to go. Let me talk to Mark about. We're working on getting some other equipment up here, too. Yeah. So, he's actually sitting back in a shower area. He's actually repositioned himself right now. He's in the shower. He's in the shower area. Shower. Pretty sure the water. He just threw it out. Okay. Well, it's in the hallway. You can look down the hallway and see for sure. Sounds like he threw a water bottle. I don't want him to close that door though before we get that we lose our opportunity to do anything if he closes that 1096 history. And um he's after theft. He's tried hanging himself supposedly in Lacrosse County jail. So we we gas that room. He steps out. We're either t Well, it's it's a fogger. We can tase him or we impact him. One of the two. Um, as soon as he moves to where we can get a good shot on him. >> And I think you're right. I think so. We project the jet. When he moves, we impact him. And if we got a couple guys for empty hands, as long as he's unarmed, we take him. >> We're going to gas him. >> You don't think I'm going to be able to get that angle from the hallway to tase him? I think it's too risky with him having a knife. So, we're going to we're going to flood it with a projected jet. When he moves to get up, cuz he will, Mark's going to impact them. So, I'm going to use the project jet. Mark's going to impact them. As long as he doesn't have a knife in his hands, you and Dwayne are going hands on. Okay. And taking him into custody. >> Okay. Is Dwayne getting his mask? >> Yeah. From my perspective, do something. >> My home then they go Come on. I HAVE HEALTH ISSUES AND THIS IS GOING TO KILL ME. JUST SO YOU GUYS KNOW, I WILL DIE FROM THIS. >> COME ON, GUYS. Come on, guys. Come on out. >> Come on, John. There's fresh air out here, John. Come on, guys. Protecting like me. >> Come on out, JOHN. >> CAN YOU DO THAT? >> Come on, John. >> Come on, JOHN. >> We got deployed. OC deployed. >> Copy. >> OC deployed on the radio. OC deployed. 15 grand deploy John. Come on. >> I'm never going out of this. Come on in. >> Come on, John. >> 15 grand. Copy. >> Come on, John. Come on out. >> [ __ ] like you said. >> Come on, John. Come on out. John, come on, buddy. There's fresh air out here. John, come on. Come on, buddy. Got anything? >> Come on, John. There's fresh air out here. >> [screaming] >> GET DOWN. GET DOWN. GET DOWN. Get down. [screaming] >> Drag him out. Drag him out. Come on, John. I can't see. John, hands, show me your hands. John, show me your hands. I'll tease you again. Come on, John. Show me your hands. Come on. >> Come on, John. Get up. I'll tease you again. Come on, guys. PLEASE KILL HIM. >> COME ON. GET UP. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS AGAIN. >> COME ON. COME ON. >> COME ON, JOHN. >> WHY DO YOU WANT TO KILL ME? >> COME ON, JOHN. Slide him out. Don't fight. Just let us know. >> WHY DID YOU KILL ME? >> Come on, John. Come on. LET GO, GUYS. WATCH HIS LEG. HANDS on the ground. [screaming] Pull up this way. Watch my glasses. Watch my glasses. Roll them. EMS up here now. John, you're okay. John, hey, >> breathe. You're okay. You >> okay? >> John, you're okay. You're done. That's my mask. I'll [clears throat] take that. John. John. Hey. [laughter] Side position. Help me get in the side position. Recovery position. All right, John. Come on, buddy. Okay, I got you. Okay, John, you're okay. You're okay. You're going to be okay. >> Yep. >> John, you're okay. Hurts, >> huh? It [ __ ] hurts. It hurts. My [ __ ] leg. >> Okay, I'm sure it does. We're going to get you taken care of. Okay. >> I can't lay on this side, man. Lay on the other side. I just Okay, let's get you on the other side. Yeah. All right, John. We've got taser deployment times two >> and OC. Okay. >> Hey, John. >> Just breathe. Okay. >> Keep breathing, buddy. Oh, we only projected Jack cuz I pretty much emptied it. So, you okay? >> No. Like I said, it's just my throat. It's all the first time. >> I know. Me either. >> Please stop sexually assaulting me again. >> Nobody's sexually assaulting you. Making sure that you're >> refused medical treatment. >> Yeah, but we have to have >> sexually assaulting me. You do not get permission to do this. >> We have to have medical clearance for you. No, I do not wish to be assaulted again by you guys, >> John. Okay, you're going to be okay. I promise you, you're going to be okay. All right. Following this case, the man was charged with multiple serious offenses. In court, he pleaded not guilty with his defense citing mental health concerns related to his state of mind at the time of the incident. After evaluation, a judge later ruled that he is competent to stand trial, meaning the case will now move forward through the justice system.
