[Music] Kimo kovic is a professional Welterweight boxer with a record of 10 wins 5 by knockout six losses and two draws he is a native of Montenegro formerly part of Yugoslavia and is of Albanian descent in 1993 at the age of 14 he came to America alone filled with hopes of every immigrant to live the American dream upon arriving in the Bronx he began working in construction and as a dishwasher in restaurants to pay his rent kovic lived and trained out of New York practicing at gleon Gym in Brooklyn he was determined to break his three-fight losing streak in June 2003 his dream became a reality when he won his first New York State Welterweight Title Match at Jimmy's Bronx Cafe the event was promoted by local promoter Sal musum who kovic approached for a promotional contract having noticed that he won whenever he fought for mumi New Year's Eve 2006 and after his one round knockout over Ronnie Glover he had arrangement to meet his uncle for drinks at the Moonlight restaurant and bar where he would enjoy time celebrating the new year with family and friends another group of Europeans started arguing about which Albanian surname was of stronger tougher families as the fight was spilled outside where Kamal was waiting for his uncle the arguing started turning physical when kamal's fighter instincts kicked in as he tried making peace and breaking up the fight when the fight turned to the worst when ahed gashi who is also of Albanian descent began wielding a knife he had already left the scene concerned for his uncle's safety kovic ordered him to return to the bar as gashi jumped into his Mitsubishi SUV and drove onto the curb the other four to five men quickly moved out of the way unfortunately Ash's SUV slammed into the boxer from behind while kovic stood on the sidewalk with his hands in his pockets and his back turned to the approaching vehicle the impact sent kovic's body head first into a tree he was rushed to St Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased many albanians follow the code of leak duken which is a set of laws that was handed down in the 15th century that specifies blood of a slain relative should be Avenged of a relative of the Killer's family our family doesn't want revenge we want to work with the police to have him in prison for the rest of his life stated camel's Uncle immediately after the murder both families were concerned about potential violence between the kovic and gashi families they met at the mosque where the gashi family vowed to turn Amed over to the kovic if they found him in an effort to prevent any further Bloodshed it has been reported that some members of the gashi family have since left the Bronx unknown of yashi's whereabouts all that was known is that he would be avoiding the Albanian community and that he was known to be within the Latino communities nearly 18 years later ahed gashi was finally identified as being back in the Balan Country and this was all that the Bronx district attorney needed to issue an international red notice warrant which was the request for law enforcement to temporarily detain the suspect until exited US Marshals joined forces with Kosovo law enforcement to arrest the murderer of colon on Friday December 13th 2024 Ahmed gashi was expedited back to the United States and was arrested and charged with the murder of Kamal kovic in this heart-wrenching moment my thoughts are with the victim and their family and I truly hope that Justice is served the loss of a loved one in such tragic circumstances creates a deep wound that no one can fully understand it's so important that we seek accountability for this crime not only to honor the life that was taken but also to offer some semblance of peace to The Grieving family I sincerely hope that the legal system acts with compassion and diligence guiding them toward healing and closure during this incredibly difficult time let us come together to support them standing United in our commitment to Justice and empathy in the face of such unimaginable sorrow [Music]
