A routine drive turned violent in a split second due to one driver's misjudgment. She stopped at the sign, but she didn't wait for the coast to clear. When she pulled her car into the intersection, she drove directly into the path of an oncoming truck. But when police arrived at the wreckage, the driver didn't own up to her mistake. Instead, she tried to flip the script, lying to officers and insisting the crash was actually the other driver's fault. What are you doing? Enjoying the view. Looks like you're trying to direct traffic. Don't do that. What's up, man? Were you driving? >> was coming down this road and she didn't stop at the stop sign and she hit me. Coming from this direction? >> No, no, she turned around. So she was coming from that direction? On 54. Okay. Um do you have insurance on you? >> got her number here. Do you have it ready? I have my uh Do you have your insurance with you? What? >> Is your insurance stuff with you? It should be in my truck. >> ahead and find it. I'll be back in a moment. >> Okay. Is the medic coming? My daughter hurt her head. They did call a medic. It takes them a moment. What's going on? Huh? We're coming. Yes, bring my purse, please, so I can show him my uh insurance and driving license. Thank you. Okay. No, we're coming through the stop sign. We're already there. He's right there. He sees us coming, but he won't stop. He ain't He ain't do none of that. He just went ahead and hit me. Why would he stop? Why would he stop? >> No, he wouldn't have. But if you are if you're right there and you already see me right here, why not stop? If you're right there and you see me cuz this is where we are, enough to where I'm turning with him, to where I'm turning with him. >> You pulled out in front of him. >> No, I didn't. But of course y'all going to say that because any car that goes >> Did you have a stop sign? Yes, I had Okay. It's your job to make sure that there's no other cars in the intersection before >> tried to tell you. Didn't I? I stopped at the stop sign. Well, you can't go until you're not going to get hit again. >> Oh, well, I can't go if he's still what's his name? He can't. And he was speeding. >> He had the right of way. This car registered to you? Does this car registered to you? >> Yes, it's mine. What's your name? What's your name? >> Christina with a K. Shoot, I ain't trying to hear that. That's your problem. What's your phone number, Christina? >> don't got one. All right. Hi, someone bumped their head on the other side of the car. >> Just needs to check that. Is this the only one that Yeah, as far as I know. So you don't have your insurance with you? It's on the way. Okay. I'm bringing my stuff. Okay. Do you happen to have an ID on you, hon? Yes. Okay, I just need your ID. These guys want These guys will talk about that. My head hurts really bad. >> Okay, we got medics here. Medics are right here. I'll get it in a little bit. It is. All right, officer. Have fun. Did you find that yet? Yeah, I have them all right here, but I'm just looking for No, no, no. the most part. It's all the same. >> No, no, no. That's fine. I'll just put the company and the policy number there. It's up to 192 because she was 17. >> this vehicle registered to you? Yes. Okay. Where was your vehicle hit? Right here on the tail. Okay. Was she just going straight or was she turning to try to go south? Okay. She can say what she wants to say. Yeah, there was a car coming this way. We were looking at it. We barely saw her car out. But you were just driving southbound. And Okay. So you just This part of your car hit the front corner of her car. Did it Did it spin her a little bit? My car No, hers. >> It slid her about that far, but she backed up and turned around and went there. Okay. No, I know. Let me make sure I'll just verify all the information. I'll get your report number and you can get out of here. We haven't got any insurance information from her for you. I'll get it and I'll put it on the report. All right, thanks. If she wants to act this way, I'll give her a ticket and I'll take the report and your insurance company can go get it that way, okay? Well, Usually It's going to cost me maybe 50 bucks to put a new headlight Yeah. Well, see what if she's going to act like this, you know, I She's going to have a ticket. It's going to cost her a couple hundred dollars now at the at a minimum. You know what I mean? But in case she calls my I I shouldn't have called my insurance company. Um I would call them, let them know that you were in an accident, let them know that the other driver was cited as at fault, and give them that report number. They can pull up that report number and they'll see my notes. Okay. Okay? Okay, thanks. So yeah, there's nothing wrong with calling your insurance company because they'll also contact her insurance company and make sure that she's responsible. All right? Thank you very much. You're welcome. Take care. Did you bring her insurance with you? I got it printed out right here. Okay, I need that. So what happened? Uh she ran a stop sign and got hit by a >> did not run it. I did not run it. car. I promise [clears throat] >> That vehicle Come over here, sir. I did not run that light, that red light, and you can ask So Wheatland is one way south. And that truck was driving south. She came to the stop sign and then entered the intersection >> No, I didn't. while he was driving south and he hit her. >> Excuse me. Why is it you believe him and not me? Why is it I couldn't have been right there already crossing and then he's he's keeps going. He don't even try to stop, officer. >> I need your insurance. >> Yeah, my insurance is right here. Yes, I'd like to have them dispatched out here. I don't want to give you my insurance. I'm going to give it to this other Okay, I won't. I asked for another >> You're not going to get another officer. This isn't Burger King where you get what you want. Yes, it's on. 190. Yes, sir. Um I believe my at fault driver is calling in asking for a new officer. I have this under control. >> Yes, internal affairs, then that's what I'll I need that. All right, I'll just mark on the ticket that you didn't give me your insurance and you can take it to the court. >> I got insurance. >> Okay. I got insurance. I don't know where she went. Here. This is my insurance card. Right there. What insurance company do you use? Allstate. It'll all the information. Can't read the policy number. Okay. Go ahead and hang out up there. I'll be up with your ticket in a moment. Do you have any white stuff to carry your brown ram? You're all right, buddy. I just got my rental car and it was a white SUV. You just have a kind of a perplexed look on your face. Are you going to sign this ticket for me, hon? Does that mean I'm guilty? No. No, that's not what it means. It just means that I'm giving you a copy. This is the copy of your ticket that I'm giving you >> am I going to court? right now. >> The court date is on October the 5th, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. 375 South High Street. My thing is this, brother. Mhm. I mean this one in my face like this. She >> It was nobody out here but these two cars. How do you know she was sitting in the middle of Okay, this guy was going south. How do you know she was There's only one way for him to go. There's There was also two people in the car. >> I'm saying to you is this. And you got to do it all And tell her, baby. Can I can hold on, man? Mhm. You got to do it all the time. When you come to this stop sign, if you look and see them cars are down, you can't see half that [ __ ] going down in there. So you pull out just a little bit more. Now, I didn't did it, you didn't did it, and I know everybody and mama did it. But my thing of it is if you that truck seen this halfway decent halfway decent car, look like it's got insurance. So some people have a tendency to do that. So it's kind of a what's thing because my daughter said she she sit there and watch and mom, here it come, here it come, bam. She then So she did is she warned mom multiple times that there was a vehicle coming. Is what you were just describing to me? Okay. He He has a responsibility to drive straight down that road. She has a responsibility to stop and not enter that roadway. >> they both do. No. When you're going south on that road, there is no stop sign. No, he doesn't have to stop. If you pull out in front of him You pulled out in front of him. >> No, I didn't. But my point being you can't He did not He continued southbound. How do you know? The point I was making is Yeah, but he's not listening. The point I'm making to you is you did not yield. How do you not yield when I turn with him? How did not yield? You still pulled out in front of him. It's called I turned with him to [laughter] keep him from hitting me. All right, good luck with that. Yeah. >> Failure to yield from a stop sign is the citation that you were issued. Officers surveyed the damage and the position of the vehicles, and the physical evidence spoke louder than any story the driver could spin. It was clear she had entered the intersection without a safe gap in traffic, causing the violent collision. She was found solely at fault for the crash and was issued a citation on the scene for failure to yield from a stop sign.
