On June 26th, 2024, a late-night drive nearly ended in a fatal disaster when a vehicle took a wrong turn and became high-centered directly on the railroad tracks. With a massive freight train bearing down on her position, the driver was lucky to be alive, but she was far from grateful. Instead [snorts] of cooperating with the officers who arrived to help, she launched into a belligerent, alcohol-fueled Karen. Where you going? I don't know. My car just stopped. There's nothing wrong with the car. >> Right, because it's stuck. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Why is the car stuck? The car is brand new. So, you can't figure out why the car is stuck? No, but the car is brand new. I don't understand why the car is stuck, honestly. Cuz you're on the You're on the train train track. There's no traction on the wheel. >> I'm I know I'm on the train track. Should the train track I am I'm aware of that. >> the train is coming, isn't it? No, it's stopped on the Are you guys stopping the train or not? Because Don't even talk to me. >> Let's Come come over here. Let's get off the track. Sorry. Yeah, we were driving. So, you don't want to call? Yeah. >> you see her in the driver's seat driving? No, so when we drove past, we saw the car with hazards on. And so, we went into that auto body shop or whatever, turned around, saw that there was a person with the car, but she was in and out of the car. Okay. >> And it was parked illegally, so we were Wait, she wasn't in and out? Explain like in and out like So, she >> Like reaching in and out? No, so she was outside of the car at first, like pushing it. >> Okay. >> And then at one point she got back in the car, closed the doors. She was on her phone the entire time, too. >> Okay. So, when you saw her, she was outside standing outside? >> Pushing Pushing the car. >> Yeah. And then she went back in? Yeah. And then came back out and tried to push it again. So, she went in the driver's seat? The Yeah, I mean >> in the driver's side? Yeah. All right. Yeah, but yeah, she was on the tracks already. We just pretty much stayed here to make sure that a train wouldn't come, but we called right when we saw it. All right. Are you guys stopping the train? Yeah, we're going to put my train from the truck right now. Under the under whole track right now. What's happening? Okay. Where you coming from? Ma'am, what's happening with my car? >> No, I know. What's happening to my car right now? Right now, it seems like your vehicle is stuck in the tracks, right? And that's not my fault. Okay. >> Out of nowhere, the car just stopped. The car just stopped? Yes. The car just stopped. >> Okay. Where Where do you live here? I live like 10 minutes away. What's 10 minutes away? It's 10 minutes away. What do you mean? 10 minutes away? Where Johnson? Yes, I live in Johnson. 10 minutes away. And the >> So, how'd you get here? By driving here. What are you asking me right now? Well, that's what I'm trying to figure out. How did that happen? You said you You were Were you driving home? >> Yes, I was driving home. >> You know what street this is? My car just automatically stopped. That's it. >> So, were you coming from from this way? >> coming this way. Were you coming on US1? >> I was going home on US1. That's what you used to know. Okay. >> My car was going home on US1. I was driving just fine. My car sometimes stops on its own cuz it say What year is it? It's '23. We're in '24. Yes. We're in '24. And it just stops on its own. Okay. And so far, it has stopped. I'm sorry. I don't know why you're moving. But it stopped on its own cuz it just does that. And right now, I wouldn't know if my car is going to be hit by a train or not. Okay. Well, it hasn't gotten hit yet, so that's what >> Is it going to be hit by a train or not? >> No. That's all I'm asking. >> Okay. Okay. Is it going to be hit by a train or not? >> Nope. As you can see, the train is right there. >> Can we move the car or not? Because it's Yep, a tow truck a tow truck is going to come. >> It just automatically stops on its own. Yeah, the tow truck I don't have an attitude or anything. No, I'm not saying I'm just you know, the tow truck is going to come and they're going to pull it out, okay? And if it's drivable, then you know, you can drive off. Yeah, right right right. >> on its own. Yes, you told me that, okay? Where I know what I just told you. Where is the truck? The tow truck? Yes. >> On its way. How far do you have an ETA or anything like that? No, but I'm pretty sure like 10-20 minutes. >> [clears throat] >> The car is on its own. 2 minutes. To the car data on its own. The car can't It can't move on its own. It's a smart car. Right. >> move on its own. When it sees flashing lights like this, it can't move. It just gets stuck automatically because it's a smart car. Right. >> Yeah. Just like a Tesla [laughter] or anything like that, it stops on its own. You understand that, right? Yes. Okay. So, it stops on its own. Uh-huh. But how'd you get here? I drove. Right. You said you were driving on US1, but to get home, right? No, not to get Not to get home, to get here. But to get back home, it stopped because of all its sirens and lights and everything. It's a smart car. Okay? So, it stops on its own. So, because we're on this on the tracks and everything and lights, because it's a smart car, automatically stops and It automatically stops. I'm sorry. What's your name? >> on its own. My name is Maleia Brown. Maleia? Okay. Maleia Brown. It stops on its own now. As a smart car, I hate that it's a smart car. But >> How long have you had it? A year. But it A year and a couple months. But it stops on its own because it's a smart car. Right. And because it's a smart car, it stops on its own because of all the lights and everything. So, yeah. If it wasn't a smart car, it wouldn't have stopped on its own. Because you guys you guys Because you guys are here, it wants it like to automatically reset with you guys. You understand? No. Is your car a smart car? It is, but it doesn't stop on tracks. My car does, though. Oh. It's because of the lights, though. That's all. Oh, okay. Are you aware of a 2023 Kia? Yeah. Are you? I am. Cuz you don't look really They don't look like you're aware. No, I'm aware of this 2023 Kia. Yeah. There's a lot of smart cars out there. I'm aware. But she don't really look like I didn't know I smashed my car. Cuz you see No, I think it's going to go through. Are you sure? Yeah. My Kia is literally like right there. Just stay over here. What's the deal? She's saying it'll tow. Yes, ma'am. What are you doing here? I didn't No. So, what are you saying? I'm talking to him. Okay. But you can just go. So, you don't have anything to say? Nope. Okay. The problem is the why it's stuck. Is it because of the track itself and the car itself it can't move or anything like What is this? Bottomed out on the tracks. It It can't move even if you drive. Okay. So, it has to be blocked blocked. There we go. That's what we're waiting on is that. Okay. That's what we have to say. You have to say something I can understand. I'm just trying to explain it the best [clears throat] I could. >> No, you wasn't. You was just trying to say that you want to talk to somebody else. Anyway, ma'am. Is that the situation with the car? It can't move on its own? It's not moving on its own. We're waiting for a tow truck. So, it can't move on its own, both of you guys. It can't move on its own because of the So, track blocks and everything. So, when the tow truck comes, okay? They're going to pull it out from the tracks. And then it's going to be drivable. Okay. Okay? Do you three understand >> truck comes the tow truck comes you either have to pay right now for the vehicle getting towed by the tow truck. So, you can clear it right now and have it removed or you can pay the tow truck. I understand. If you don't pay right now, the vehicle's getting towed to their yard. The car is still stuck on the tracks. After it gets pulled off the tracks, yeah. Right. I think it's up No, that's fine. No big deal. So, you were coming from the waterfront. Yeah. So, the waterfront is downtown. The Tide House is right here. Do you understand? Ooh. Where's waterfront? It's downtown stood, which is about a mile and a half from here. About a mile from here. She also received citations for careless driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
