the evening of April 15th 2022 in New Providence a young woman named yanel bentos engaged to a police officer found herself in a perplexing situation after dining with a friend she accidentally collided with her Nissan Rogue raising concerns of potential DWI charges despite admitting to having consumed a drink she firmly maintained her sobriety and encouraged the officers to conduct any were unmistakable seated in the back she was consumed with worries about her future career aspirations and how her family would react to the unfolding situation please don't tell me my parents my I charges that could alter the trajectory of her life a stark contrast to The Confident Woman she had been earlier that evening in the end yanel was found guilty of operating under the influence she was fined $790 had her license revoked for 3 months and was required to complete 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource program on September 5th 2023 Desiree Ortega the 30-year-old wife of a police Sergeant was identified as the driver reported for erratic driving in Hobs New Mexico nearly causing a collision with another vehicle officers from the Hobs Police Department responded swiftly attempting to initiate a traffic stop Ortega eventually struck a curb bringing her car to a halt to their surprise the officers discovered a 1-year-old child inside the vehicle and soon realized the car was registered to a sergeant within their own Department as the officers neared the vehicle they detected the odor of alcohol jail get this mother out of my car one step out get out huh well my name is officer solom with the house Police Department Okay the reason I'm making contact with you it's cuz we got a call in that you're intoxicated driving okay obviously when I saw you you just drove onto a curve and almost struck a fence okay so I'm going to need you to step out when they requested Ortega to exit she declined leading them to physically remove her and arrest her because who County Sheriff's Office CU last time we got an ination with her she refused to get out of the car for like 30 minutes I told her uh do there being people there you need to get out of the car she's like I'm not getting out so at that time I pulled her out uh she kind of tussled fought with us a little bit and she was placed in in the handcuffs uh obviously it's a conflix for us cuz it's Sergeant White's girlfriend wife I don't know significant other I don't know I don't know what you call thank you you got it okay thank you all right thanks Budd don't anything from us even after being made aware of the situation Ortega continued to be uncooperative when asked to undergo field sobriety tests her refusal came as no surprise given her condition hey Des so obviously we know you were driving right and I can clearly smell that you were drinking I don't know your whole situation I don't know what's going on but I just wanted to ask you do you want to submit to some tests to see if you're fit for to drive what was that no okay okay that's fine um as deputies tried to escort desire Ortega into the patrol vehicle her behavior escalated into violence frustrated and intoxicated she kicked vehicle they discovered three unopened bottles of alcohol on the passenger seat along with a fourth bottle that was nearly empty have have had it and like the do whatever you need to do you have my permission get after I was already at home I'm tracking her and I'm like where are you at she said she was on I was like well you need to get over there and get your son so she wasn't responded I'm like this is kind of weird like she was on the phone but she wasn't saying anything and so I asked her have you been drinking she didn't say nothing I was like okay tracking the phone tracking the phone I hear a call come out and described my car I don't know my 28 but I know my car if you describe it to me I'm driving down this way I see Solomon parked down there and I'm like why ain't he doing nothing cuz she was right here where my car is look she was like this she was at this angle facing that way right where the car was resting she was right here so I swing around and I pull up next to her and I said hey man turn the car off cuz I didn't know if she had the baby or not my fa Focus was to get the car stopped to get the baby out if you drive off and you crash that's on you Ortega was then transported to the station where she eventually consented to a breathalyzer test the test yielded a startling result Ortega's blood alcohol content was 0.36% more than four times the legal limit of 0.8% despite this she continued to refuse cooperation with the officers well we have to so desire we're going to go now you go home I'm going to press charges on you okay that's fine especially because I have evidence okay that's fine well we have to take you to the jail no okay me tell you stop that none of that needs to happen right now no okay no it doesn't so we're going to
