I recorded you stealing from a stealer. >> Stealing? What did I steal? >> Get the out of the car. You paid off. >> I thought I scanned all the stuff. And just like today, I paid full money for the other >> Walmart has become the go-to destination for just about everything. Groceries, gadgets, toys, and more. But with thousands of people walking through its doors every day, things are bound to get a little strange. These Walmart troublemakers thought they could outsmart the cops, but they were in for a rude awakening. I mean, I I can kind of >> I don't know if there's a >> Yeah. >> passcode or is it face? >> On August 3rd, 2025, officers responded to a Walmart shoplifting call where a man was seen eating food and drinking beverages inside the store without paying. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> What's going on? >> So, I have this gentleman here that we're following. >> Okay. >> This one right here. >> He has consumed donuts. He has consumed this drink and he has dumped them right now. He has this Dr. Pepper that he's consuming and he has a can of Pringles also in the cart that he's consumed already. Okay. >> Uh we were just waiting to see if he was going to pay for it. Um but I mean we already have him on dumping um items already. >> Loss prevention staff observed him consuming donuts. Pringles and a doctor Pepper while skipping scans at the selfch checkckout. They confirmed he had done this before at other stores. >> All right. And is he on this side or he's on this side? >> Right now he's going to grocery. He's uh going to the grocery self checkouts. >> And you guys want to pursue? >> Yes. >> We'll see if he scans the other two things. >> Customer service. Pretty sure that's Hector. >> Oh, I'm pretty sure that is Hector. >> Has he scanned everything? >> He's scanning so hard. Yeah. So far he's at $32 right now. >> Yeah. The most important things that we want to make sure he scans is that Pringle scam that's in there and that Dr. Pepper that he's got caught like trying to steal from Lowe's like four months ago. >> What do you mean? >> I didn't think he was going to leave at first. I thought he was going to be a problem. >> No, he leaves. But he does try to like grab >> at checkout. The suspect Richard scanned some items but deliberately skipped the empty Pringles can and an energy drink. He attempted to pay for the rest and leave. >> You have another energy drink. >> No, he had a Dr. Pepper black cherry zero sugar that he's been drinking. >> Still in the car. >> Oh, he's going to pay for that boy. >> He scans the Dr. Pepper. >> There he goes. >> See if he sc he skipped it. >> Yep. >> He went to reach for it and he skipped it. >> Don't do it for $1.97, >> right? >> Did he double scan the donuts? >> No, he hasn't scanned them yet. Is the Pringles can the last thing in? >> Yeah, he hasn't he hasn't even gotten the Pringles can. >> No, he's going to hit that pay button. >> Yeah, he's not going to do it. >> Can he add the Pringles, too? >> He So, the Pringles are still in the can. >> Oh, so he just put >> He hasn't He didn't scan them. He He just ate them and he left them in the basket. >> Oh, so he already ate those? >> He already ate the Pringles? Yes, they >> When confronted, Richard claimed he was diabetic and ate due to low blood sugar, describing it as a medical emergency rather than intentional theft. >> They're already empty. Okay. >> And he's going to go >> grocery. >> So, I'm a diabetic. >> Okay. >> And I have low blood sugar. >> Okay. >> My mind isn't functioning properly when I have low blood sugar. >> Okay. >> So, I'm still going to get charged for the shifty even though it's something that was more of an emergency than anything. >> Yeah. Yeah, that's going to be something you have to talk to the judge. That's something he'll take in consideration. Right now, we have to deal with what we have at face value. Okay. This way. >> Real quick, man. What's your name? >> J A N. >> Huh? >> D E N. >> And do you have a New Mexico ID? >> I have an Arizona ID. >> Okay. >> Can I ask for a favor? I have an earbud in right now and it's playing music and I just want to make sure I can hear you guys. Is there any way you guys can take it off from here? >> Officers read him his rights. Richard repeated his diabetes excuse but admitted to consuming donuts. A Starbucks mocha, Dr. Pepper, and Pringles valued at $6os 39 times. Am I >> You have the right to remain silent. Anything you can say will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have them present with you while you're being questioned. You cannot afford to hire a lawyer who will be appointed to represent you before any questioning if you wish. You can decide anytime you exercise these rights and not answer my questions or make any statements. Do you understand? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. So, you want to talk about the items that you consumed right now without paying for? >> All I the same thing I said earlier, just low blood sugar, not mentally. It was more of an emergency situation than nurs. That's all I really have to say. >> Okay. And do you remember exactly which items they were? >> Uh, double shot mocha for Starbucks and a two pack of sourdough donuts. >> And the Pringles? >> Yeah, they were sitting right there. I had fun. >> Well, we were watching. You didn't scan the Pringles. >> Thought I scanned them. If I didn't then that's >> my fault. >> All right guys have a grand total >> uh grand total of 639 >> and then you guys are just want to pursue for the shoplifting you guys wanting trespass or anything >> we'll just pursue for the shoplifting trespass pursuit for trespassing. Okay so you're more than welcome to come back just >> store staff requested charges for shoplifting and trespassing due to his prior history. Richard cooperated and asked if he could take his diabetes medication. I mean for >> my stuff next time. You guys mind if I take medication real quick? >> Uh just give us a second man. Do you need medical attention? >> I have Well, I have my medication on me. So I was I was just asking, but that's fine. >> Yeah. >> I think I can I can make it for a few moments. >> Is it for your diabetes as well? Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Is it insulin or >> Yes, ma'am. I mean, if you guys don't mind, I I'll I can I can do it with being cuffed in the front if you guys are willing to be okay with that. It's up to you guys, but I can >> Okay. All right then. So, real quick, I'll go do a citation for real. Come back, have you sign it, and we'll get you going. Okay. >> Okay. >> Traffic. There's three warrants for traffic citations. >> I don't know if they're traffic citations just yet, but if that's what you can remember to your knowledge, last time you got cited for anything or an interaction, then it might be. Yeah. Well, the only thing that I've gotten cited for was over a year ago and uh I had gotten paperwork from the court saying that they were taken care of by my mother. >> I mean, you've been cool with us, man. Is there anywhere that we can drop this off because >> No, cuz I brought my motorcycle. Is there anywhere I can take my medication now while this is being taken care of? >> Yeah, we can go ahead and do that for you. Um, okay. Let's go ahead and go to the car for now. Okay. But there's nobody like not even a >> officers discovered he was carrying a knife. They safely allowed him to administer an insulin injection while in custody. >> Friend's house, anything like that? >> Somebody's one of my friends is calling me. I just don't know who at the moment. >> We can try to work with you. Okay. >> Where's your medication at? >> It's in my knife right here. >> Okay. Okay. You don't have no weapons, anything on you, nothing like that? >> I do have a knife on my left hip. >> Your left hip? Okay. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Anything else? >> No. >> Okay. Just going to take everything out. Okay. So, I'm assuming that I'm probably going to see a judge until Monday. >> Yeah, >> because it's the weekend. >> Yeah. Yeah. Be on Monday. >> So, will they be able to give me a medication? >> They should be able to. Um, as far as the medication that you have on hand, I'm not too sure. >> I know. I think I can enter that with your property, but that's going to be something you have to ask the the >> Is there any way I can take some of that medication right now >> because we probably won't make it to the >> Okay. >> to the jail. >> It'll just take It'll just take me a few more. It's in the in the >> only thing is I don't got water, man. I don't even have water. >> No, the water is fine. I just need the insulin. >> Okay. >> Which? >> Uh the No, the big one. >> Big one? >> Yes, sir. >> It's a pill, right? >> No, no, no. It's a injection. >> Uh >> I can I can do it. It's going to be the yellow one. >> This one? >> Yes. And that's the one. Yeah. And if you can put it in Yeah. If you can put it in my hand, I can do it. And then >> stick it. >> We can give you at least one. That's fine. We'll just take off one for you now. That way. cuz we don't want you to hurt yourself. >> Which hand you use? >> Does it matter? Can you do your left hand or you want your right hand? >> I can do either. I just need I just need the the the >> No. Been doing this for 36 years. I kind of got it figured out. I'm just going to come towards you just so I can put the cap on. >> And you don't need any any other medical attention though. >> At the moment, no. >> Changes. Let me know. That way we can just get you squirted away from there first. >> All right, man. Go have a seat real quick. Okay. you Garen. >> Um, I can take your phone and your wallet with you. >> Yes, >> your hat. >> The wallet especially medication. >> Yeah, the headphones can't go with you. >> Um, every Yeah, that's fine. As long as I have my the phone. >> Do you have a friend that can come here be careful stuff? >> Um, I possibly do, but I don't I mean I don't know if he's going to be able to come or not. Richard called a friend to retrieve his motorcycle and groceries, showing cooperation and compliance with police instructions. >> If you guys don't mind, >> there's a lot of stuff. >> Yeah, that that way at least you're not just going to >> They should I mean I I can try to >> I don't know if there's a >> Yeah. >> passcode or is it face? >> No, it's it's fingerprint or or code. It's >> Who we looking for? >> Uh it's going to be the guy red. Go to recents on the very bottom. Red right there. Yeah. And then it's going to be the the top option once it comes up. Thank you so much. >> Yeah. Okay. And like I say, you've been cool to us. We're willing to work with you. >> I appreciate it. >> That way you're not >> the top option. >> This one? >> Yeah. >> That way you don't lose all your >> I appreciate it. >> Someone's calling me. >> What's up, brother? >> Hey, I need your favor and I need >> What's up? I need you to find someone possible to come and get my bike over at the Walmart. >> You need what? What? What? >> I'm being arrested. I need somebody to come and get my bike >> and my groceries. >> And my groceries. >> LCPD. >> Yeah. >> All right. Love you bike. >> I'm at rinkado. >> Got you. Love you. Bike. >> Bye. >> What's his name? >> Red or Richard? >> Richard. Okay. >> And do you know what he drives? >> Uh Black Kia. >> Black. From here. No, he lives on he lives right down the street on road runner. >> Oh, okay. Cool. Just so that way he can recognize. So, you want to give him your your bike keys? >> Uh, do you guys have the keys? >> Do you want to have >> Oh, yeah. That's up to you, too. If you want to just take >> that, as long if I can take my phone and my wallet >> and then everything else to him would be great. >> You can do that, please. >> All righty. Thank you guys again for >> Yeah. Like I said, man, I I was going to cut you just with the side, but I mean, >> yeah. And I'm like I'm just as surprised as you. >> Officers processed him for jail intake, removing personal items like jewelry and securing his belongings. >> You guys are with the warrants. I thought everything I'm hoping it's if it's what I think it is, then I hope I can get it taken care of while I'm in jail. >> Yeah. Everything going all right. >> Yes, ma'am. We're going to close the door. >> Yes, sir. >> You want the air on? Heater on, window open. >> Um, I'm okay for the moment. Okay. Thank you. >> All right, Mr. Richard, going to step on it out. Yes, ma'am. Okay. We'll follow that back door there. >> Which one? Sir, >> this blue door. >> Get those cuffs off you and then uh if you have any other jewelry or anything like that, your belt, just go ahead and take them off. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Thank you. >> Another bracelet, earrings. bailed. >> Now, this purple one, if I take it off, it'll tear. Is it okay to keep it or I mean, >> that's going to be up to them. I'm probably going to make you take it off, though. So, your earrings come out. >> Yes. >> Yeah. So, the ring, nothing like that. >> Oh, okay. Going to go on over here. Hi, Becky. >> Oh, you know being a dummy? >> Yeah, cuz I just got back in the car. You haven't seen the recliner, man? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay, I'll be back. Thank you. >> All right, >> thank you. >> Richard was formally convicted of shoplifting and trespassing. Additionally, officers found three outstanding traffic warrants, leading to his transfer to jail for booking. Stealing, even for small items, can lead to serious consequences and uncover bigger legal troubles. Honesty and responsibility will always cost less than a moment of poor judgment. But this is still not the worst case. Just wait until you see this next one. >> Yeah, go ahead. >> How many things do they need? >> Is there going to be a transfer or no? >> You're going to arrest me? >> Uh, possibly. >> What? On April 20th, 2025, officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at a local meer. The suspect insists some items were hers and offers to pay again to avoid charges. >> Let's go get the other stuff. >> Some of it's not from here. >> I'm sorry. >> The bag took the bag over. That's it. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Got work bags and she really needs to press charges over this. >> I don't know. I just got here. You saw when I walked in, right? [Applause] >> And because I walk out with the car. How many of you did they send over here? >> Um, I don't know. Maybe two >> for this. >> Uh, yeah. It's a crime. >> Now, I had a blanket in the bag that was already mine. Do they need to have that? >> Ma'am, I don't know. We'll figure it out. >> Do you have another item? >> Officers question her about a blanket. She admits it came from the store, but continues pleading to just pay instead of facing charges. >> I have a blanket in my car. >> Was it from here? >> I thought that was the one we were trying to match. I'll pay for it again if it's not >> cuz I had one in my car. >> Okay. Was there another one that you full? >> I didn't pull any tags off anything. >> Okay. All right. >> But I can I'll pay for it again. I don't want to have to have charges. I will pay for it again. Gladly. >> We're past that already. So, they're pursuing charges. It's beyond >> for under $100. >> Doesn't matter. It's their call. >> Please. >> What's your phone number? >> Are you printing the training receipt? >> Please. She says she don't have Do you have it or not? >> I have a blanket in my car. Yes. >> Was it from here? Can you cut? Was it from here or not? Cuz I'm starting to lose my patience. >> Yes. >> Yes, it was. Okay. Let's go get it. >> So, is this the one that you took from there? >> I'm trying to Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Just bring it back in with you. >> She says she don't want that. So, it's their >> $100 back. >> Unfortunately, it's it's their call. So, apparently you all already had a y'all don't like each other. So, >> I've never been I like I'm not even from the area. Yes, I did a stupid thing, but I'm not. >> Police explain that charges are being pursued regardless since it's theft, even if under $100. She expresses disbelief about being arrested. >> I get it, but it's their call. We don't have a choice in it. >> As much as you don't want to deal with it, we don't want to deal with it either. It's Sunday. >> If I didn't want to deal with it, I should have >> Yeah, go ahead. >> How many things do they need? Is there going to be a transport or no? >> You're going to arrest me? >> Uh, possibly. >> What? >> That's what happens when a crime is committed. Like, are you do you not know? [Music] >> We know you can. This is under $100. I had a really stupid I won't come back to your store. Please. This is within your ability. Um, >> it's under >> he got his notary stuff. Do you want uh transport or you want to get to it? >> Can I just pay for this? >> Officers process her with photos and trespass her from the property, warning that returning would result in another arrest. >> I'll do the booking sheet and I'll do the photos >> and send it in to him. >> Please. All right, ma'am. It's not happening. Set that down, please. And we got to take care of some other stuff. >> We don't have all day to deal with this. >> Um, can you stand over here for me? >> Ma'am. Ma'am, can you stand here for me? >> And just look straight ahead, please. Uh, you got to remove your glass off your head. >> Good grief. >> Great idea. >> Okay. And then can you turn and face that way? And then the other side, please. >> Okay. You can go and have a seat. >> No, you're being trespassing. >> You can't come back. >> If you come back, what happens is they have cameras. So whether they stop, >> she is spared being taken away in handcuffs, but is issued a notice to appear NTA in court. Officers stress that failure to appear will result in a warrant. you at that time or if they are able to provide proof to us that you were here after being trespassed then it's it's it's grounds for another arrest. >> Okay. >> I didn't pull the tag off of that. >> I was ground for another one. >> So, what's going to happen is this. Um you're going to be spared the embarrassment of having to be taken out of here in handcuffs. So, you're going to be given an NTA. All right. It's notice to appear on that. >> You're going to press charges on top of the trespassing. Absolutely. >> Like I said, this could be much worse than we can call for a transportation van and we can lock you out of here in handcuffs and then you have to go. Listen to me. Stop. >> Stop. >> All right. >> I'm sorry. >> I'm doing you the favor of not having to take you all the way to the police department. All right. >> Mhm. >> So, what's going to happen is you're going to be given paperwork. It's going to have your court date on there. You have to go to court that date. All right. Yeah. >> If you don't go to court that day, then there's going to be another warrant put out for your arrest. >> All right. That's it. >> It's completely up to them. They're pursuing charges. Said and done. Nothing's going to change it. All right. >> It is up to them. >> Exactly. >> How much was the total? Can I pay for it? >> No. >> Can I know what the total was? >> As soon as we find out how much this blanket is. All right. Let's go outside. We got to give you one uh piece of uh paperwork. It's going to have your court date on it, and then you guys got to leave. Okay. Officers explain her court date May 22nd, 2020 at 93 a.m. DuPage County Courthouse. They note firsttime offenders may sometimes resolve it with fines. >> Where you at? >> I'm right back. >> Just let's walk over here, guys. >> And uh it ended up dude, it ended up being a felony, but of course it didn't get approved. It was just a mess. stand under here up so you don't get wet. So essentially, I mean, um I think it's pretty self-explanatory. Just make sure you guys don't come back here. Um and then I'm going to give you the paperwork. It's going to have your court date on it. Uh it's going to be the 22nd of May at 9:00 at the at the uh DuPage County Courthouse. If you um you know, like you said, mentioned something earlier about possibly paying a fine or something along those lines. I don't know how that works. You'd have to talk to somebody at the courthouse first >> to see uh see if they if they if they'd allow that. Um have you ever been arrested before for this? >> Okay. >> I don't even have a >> All right. Well, I mean, if that's the case, they may be able to work something out. um you may just have to pay a fine. >> Police emphasize that she technically was arrested but released without transport. Normally, she would have been handcuffed and taken to the station. Um or I know that they can arrange something like that once you go to court. So, if you're like a first- time offender and you don't want it on your record, um they do arrange >> of the what she told us. >> Yeah, we we've got a copy of it. So, um yeah, that's pretty much it. It was either that or a lot of times typically in these situations, we uh we go ahead and just um you know, we'd have to call a transit transportation van out here. You get arrested. Um well, you are arrested technically, but we put handcuffs on you. You'd have to walk out of the store like that. search you. You have to go to the police department, do the booking and all that nonsense. So, um, just take it as a lesson learned. Okay. [Applause] >> Well, I mean, well, it's not like you shot somebody, but I would hope that you learn from it. The incident concludes with the woman cited for misdemeanor shoplifting and released while being permanently barred from the store. Trying to talk your way out of theft won't erase the crime once charges are filed. It's out of your hands. Even small shoplifting can lead to court dates, bans, and a permanent record. After you see the next case, you may want to think twice. It's shocking. And for more articles, subscribe Law Zone if you like this. >> Okay. I don't know. I don't know how they I don't know how they did it. I don't know how they I was on the street. They give me on the street. >> Police responded to a Verizon store after a man attempted to fraudulently purchase an iPhone 14 and a PS5 using someone else's credit line. Watch as officers dig into the details, uncovering his scheme and exposing the truth. >> There's a fake ID. I called the customer and the customer says that it's not that he wanted to call the cops because it's not him and making the the purchase. did sound like he knew like the person's full information. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, I just want to check the ID. It's a passport card. Hi. >> Hi. >> How you doing? >> Good. How are you, ma'am? >> I'm doing good. Apparently, you trying to use um somebody else name to open the line here. >> I'm sorry. >> Do you have your ID on you? >> Yeah. >> Can we see it, please? >> Yes, sure. [Music] The person's name you trying to use to open a line here, who is he or she to you? >> Um, my son, he's >> Why are you trying to get under your son's knife? Well, he's going away to college, so I was trying to get him a a new phone, you know. >> So, there you go. >> The suspect in At first, the suspect tried to lie his way out of it, but under pressure from the female officer, he quickly broke down and confessed the truth. They're saying the name you gave them. >> They called they called that person and that person doesn't know you. >> Oh, >> is that what's happening? Is that person actually your son? >> Don't lie to me. Tell me. >> No, I'm not going to lie. That person's not my son. >> Okay. So, why are you trying to get on that person's line? >> I don't know. Because somebody promised to pay me money to do something and I I usually don't. >> I'm sorry. Somebody was going to pay me money if I got them a phone. >> So, somebody was going to pay you? >> How did you get them a phone? >> To get them a phone? >> Yeah, cuz I had no money. Yes. >> And you How did you come up with this person's name to give them? >> They gave me the number. They gave me >> Okay. >> I don't know how they I don't know how they did it. I don't know how they I was on the street. They give me on the street. >> So, somebody walked up to you. They said they were going to pay you. Oh, they were driving past. >> They said they were going to pay to buy somebody your phone. >> $10 to get the phone. Yeah, you get a no problem. >> And who was that person? >> I don't know. I just met them. >> How would they have gotten the phone? Did you get a phone number for them? >> What? No, they they would they would meet me and pick me up outside later. >> Found out of Florida's um address. What's that? >> You don't have any address in here in Florida? >> No, I'm my beach address. I have >> What is that? >> Yeah, I'm staying with my brother in Myrtle Beach. That's where my new address is cuz I just retired. You know, I didn't get my money back for my cuz I was out of work for 2 and 1/2 years, you know. So, I had no money, you know. The male suspect admitted that someone offered him $50 to use the credit line, but the officer quickly sensed something was off. She pressed him for more details, determined to get the full story. >> Just forget about all this. >> Your story is still a little confusing. >> All right, I'll tell you whatever you want. I'm an honest guy. I'll tell you whatever you want to know. >> You in the street, somebody just walked up to you, said they were going to pay you >> to get on the phone. Yeah. They gave me I didn't know who the person was. in the phone room. >> They're the name. >> Go ahead. They give you no phone number on how to reach them. >> No. No. >> They said when you get the phone, we'll be outside. >> We'll be outside waiting. >> Yes. It is. Does he have anything active? >> No. >> We can forget about this whole thing. I'm never >> All right, let's go back. >> Somebody drove up to you in the street. >> I was walking. They just passed me by. They said, "We have an ID. We want you to upgrade and get somebody a phone and maybe a PlayStation." Said, "How am I going to do that? I can't do that." They said, "No, we have the ID." So, >> they gave you the person's name, phone number, and everything. >> Yeah. I don't know that person. >> So, how are you supposed to reach that person and give them back the phone? >> And then when I came out, they would meet me in the parking lot. That's what they told me. So, are they waiting on you now? >> I hope I now I don't know now. >> What does that person look like? >> Um about 6'2, black, dark, short hair, like crew cut and he was wearing yellow sneakers. That's the only >> black male. >> Yeah. [Music] haircut dresser, but he had yellow for my vehicle and see if they can fix that for me, please. >> The male suspect, the male suspect pleads, thinking the police will let him go. >> I'm not looking for no trouble, please. of the >> You were born in New York. >> Yeah. >> You say you retired down here? >> Yeah. >> Yep. >> I don't have a government again like Ross. >> Yeah. But I guess you know I had a hard luck with um I had surgery too. This week I have to go back. See this? I have a a hernia. I was trying to get some money. You ever get to touch me again? I'll go and I don't care. I nothing to him. He's nothing to me. >> You have any family in the area? >> Yeah, I do. >> So, my daughter was going to school here for a while, so I was going to go visit her, too. Well, this is one of my brothers in Myrtle Beach. I stay with him, >> you know. >> Is that Vera Beach? >> Myrtle. >> Myrtle Beach. >> Actually, North Myrtle Beach. >> That's where I've been living cuz I pay after that, you know, when I can afford it. >> I'm staying here for before you go back. >> I'm going home Monday night. So, I have I have to go for the surgery. >> Okay. So, you >> I have to have the surgery, but Well, >> yeah. >> I'm sorry. I'm very sorry. I should action never tried to do it. >> I know better. >> I don't even I wouldn't even jaywalk. >> All right. >> The officers deliberate their next step. >> You try to contact me. You want me to give you his phone number? >> Um, I'm actually phone number. I'll get him his phone number then. >> What? The guy that >> the guy that that drove past was >> I don't know. I think it was >> You have a phone number for him? >> No, he was That's what So I said, "How am I going to he meet me outside?" >> And I said, "If he gets back, you know what I'm saying? I'll get his phone number this time and give it to you." >> You know what I'm saying? I'm not looking for any trouble. >> You know, this happened today. >> That's what happened today. Yeah. He's down here. >> Just waiting for the other question. >> After listening to the suspect's story, the police knew exactly what steps to take next.
