On August 20th, 2023, what began as loud banging and shouting behind a hotel room door escalated into a full-blown domestic battery arrest. As officers pieced together two very different versions of events, one woman was handcuffed, but the justice system had other plans. Watch the video to know what actually happened. [Music] >> Hey, how are you? Good morning. Hey, how are you? I'm >> doing well. How are you? >> I'm good, thank you. Um, I have a hospital in one of our units. Um, I walked by, didn't go inside. Um, I walked by, but it was loud and did some banging. >> Okay. >> So, I just What unit number is that? >> 121. >> Echo 12. pretty much um she works it's the Airbnb side. >> Okay. >> Um 121 ass session when she was walking by she heard a loud argument and a loud >> bang >> like bang. Um so that's all we have right now. >> I said I'm right down the road. I'll be there in a second after we deal with this. >> Are you okay? She said she was walking by. She heard a lot of argument and then heard some things. >> Okay. >> Do you know who's staying there? Like how long they're supposed to be staying there? >> Um they checked in Saturday and they checked out Wednesday. >> Yeah, that's true. Yes. >> Did you check on me or was someone else too? >> Uh well with Sandra is all online booking. >> Okay. But they just get all their stuff on the phone. >> Yeah. So, you guys don't know who's staying in the room? >> Well, we have their information. >> Okay. >> Is this part of the hotel or is it like the Airbnb type stuff? >> So, the hotel um puts out different units. Um so, it's different management companies. There's a few [Music] You want to stand over here? >> How long ago was it? Orlando Police Department. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Hey. So, we just got a call about I guess some argument, some arguing like some banging in the room. We just want to make sure everybody in the room is all right. >> Yeah. Um, it's it's just me. >> Is there anybody else in the room? >> No, not one. >> Who's the other person? >> Um, you okay? I'm good. >> I'm just trying to get home. >> So, what what all going on? Cuz they said they heard some arguing, some yelling, and some banging. >> Um [ __ ] you doing this? >> Um yo, Marlo, I'm going to call you later. All right. I got to trust the cops. >> Can I call my dad while I talk to you? >> Yeah, that's fine. We can go inside if you want us to go inside. >> Soon as the cops pulled up at the hotel, they started digging into everything about the chick. Under Florida law, at one point, the body cam footage had to be paused for a bit since recording inside the residence wasn't really allowed. So, the girlfriend was brought outside and the investigation kicked off right there. >> Hello. >> So, what's going on? >> Um, we wanted to argue, but it's like nothing new. >> That's it. Just an argument. >> Yeah. >> Nothing got physical. >> Yeah, got physical, but I I woke up, tried to speak to her. >> Okay. >> Cuz we barely spoke yesterday. >> Okay. >> And Yeah. So, we I tried speaking to her and then um want to know like where things started to get physical at or just the whole story. >> So, I woke up like um so I came. We just came here. We got here yesterday. Mhm. >> Um we came here, we did whatever we did yesterday, but we were barely talking. Okay. >> So, I woke up. I spoke to her. I said we were barely speaking yesterday. Like, what are we going to do? Um she was like, um I was on my phone the whole time because of this. And it was because I told her mind her business yesterday. And um then is there a meet with us? >> Yeah. So we kept on speaking but obviously we wasn't getting nowhere. Um, we ended up going like to the bathroom and then um I we were speaking the whole time and then when I was getting like I was leaving the bathroom door to get out the way and um she like pushed the arm. >> So that's when I >> what's it called? My reflex I hit her and then we were arguing after that like physical after that. Um then I kept on trying to speak to her but that's it really like >> you have just >> should be in there but I have a picture of it right now. >> You know where it's at in there? Said you guys got here yesterday. How long you supposed to be here? >> Till Wednesday. >> Till Wednesday. >> Yeah. Can you tell me like the process of this? You kind of know. >> Yeah, it's the other the primary the officer in there is the primary office. I don't really know what's going on. >> She's going to let you know what's going on. >> Hello. Um, I'm here investigating what happened today. Want to talk about what happened with you and your girlfriend? >> Um, I woke up, felt some type of way about yesterday, spoke to her, and it happened yesterday. >> Nothing really happened yesterday. It was just that we weren't really speaking. So, I kind of woke up, told her about it, and she told me that the reason why she was doing that yesterday was because of something else I said. And um I told her just stay like that, which is not going to happen for the rest of the trip. >> The girlfriend kept it real basic, saying it was nothing, just that they didn't talk last night and now they were finally having a conversation. But like, if it was just talking, then why the hell did hotel staff feel the need to call the cops to calm things down? Clearly, this woman was hiding something from the officers, just trying to play it smart and save her own skin. >> Um, she felt some type of way. I went to the balcony. I I didn't tell you about this, but um yeah, I went to the balcony >> this morning. >> Mhm. >> This all happened this morning. I went to the balcony and then when I went to the balcony, that's when everything started. Um we just kept on talking about it. >> Um and yeah, things ended up getting physical. >> You said it ended up getting physical. >> Yeah, she um she had closed the door when I was speaking to her in the bathroom and then I hit her. >> And then you what? >> Hit her. Okay. Uh, she said you guys have been dating for 2 years. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Unofficially, but >> unofficially deal with it. >> Trying to like get to where we need to be at. >> What do you mean officially? >> Um, cuz I'm not going to say we do this all the time, but this isn't the firstation. Um, so I'm not going to be in a relationship if it has to be like this. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm not going to make it official until things like this stop, but obviously it's not. So, Um, do you She said you guys don't live together at the end. >> Okay. Um, >> huh. >> We didn't live together, but she kind of don't have her own space. And a year before that, when we were getting to like in the altercations, we were living in my car together. So, >> Okay. So, what year did you guys meet? >> It's 2021. She moved in 2022. Well, not moved in, but like together all the time. 22. And then now here. Okay. And you guys obviously before all this happened, you guys go on romantic dates, right? Stuff like that. Just making >> spend a lot of time together. Yeah. So my she wants to elaborate everything at all. >> Okay. So what's going on? >> I want I want to know like I'm pretty sure I actually the same thing in the process. >> So the process is like we talked to her, we talked to you. So right now this is dating violence. You guys are in a relationship. So with everything I have at this time, you are going to be placed under arrest. All right. So battery or date. Just hold up. >> Do you have any stuff in the room that you want to go with you? >> Yeah. Put your hand like that. >> Well, how much do you have? Yeah, cuz they won't take suitcases cuz >> I mean I know you guys have the reservation for Wednesday. >> So there's that. >> So what happens from here real quick? So due to the nature of your guys' relationship in the state of Florida in the state of Florida, it's not whether somebody wants to press charges or not. Uh it's when we make a determination of this probable cause to make an arrest. Okay. >> Um so like my partner said, you're here till Wednesday so we can have it to where it can stay in a room and it can stay. You can keep your property here or we can take the property and evidence. The only issue is if we take the property and evidence, it's probably going to be a while before you can retrieve it cuz you have to schedule an appointment. >> Taking her into custody was honestly the smartest move the officer could have made. At this point, her silence said it all. She already knew her long- winded stories weren't going to save her this time. She looked like someone who had finally run out of excuses and the reality was sinking in fast. >> How long am I with you guys? >> Well, so what happens is she's in a pretty much she'll take you to the jail. She'll do the paperwork, you get processed, put the bond with it being a domestic violence, there's no bond, so you have to see the judge. So it could be either sometime today or it could be tomorrow morning. You see the judge and the judge will either put a bond amount or they will release you in your own recidence. So, it's a RO. You could potentially be out tomorrow. If this was a simple battery where it was not domestic in nature, you have a bond. And I think the bond is about 500 bucks. So, you can pay that. But because it's a domestic violence, you have to see the judge. And so, once you see the judge, the judge will record. >> What do you mean? >> So, it shows up as an arrest, but obviously it depends on what the prosecution process is. So, it's going to be pretty much because like right now you're just being arrested, but it depends on what happens with the prosecution as far as like if you get charged cuz you're going to get charged, but it doesn't mean you're it's a actual like Yeah. So, it's pretty much it's going to go to the prosecution and then they make a determination from there as far as the court proceedings and all that stuff. >> Right now, it's just it's just a misdemeanor for the charge. So, it's battery. >> Do you want to take your stuff and put it into evidence or do you want to keep it in the room or what what would you like to do with it? >> I'll keep it. I mean, >> cuz they won't they won't take they won't take like that purse. They won't take. >> All right. I'll leave everything in the room, but I just want to know if I could call like somebody. So, >> yeah, you can take your phone with you. So, what happens? You're going to be your phone and they'll let you take numbers out your phone and you can call from when you get to the jail. >> But then they'll take my phone, right? >> So, they're going to have possession of your phone cuz you can't just be on your phone the whole time. So, your your phone is going to be with your property. So, they document all your property. You can take numbers out and you can use the phone from the jail to make their phone calls. >> Yeah. They let you go through the phone to get your numbers. Uh, anyways, do you want to take your phone? What else do you want to take? >> You have a wallet in there. >> Yeah, but can you take the wallet that's in there and then take the money out >> in there? >> Mhm. >> Just do that. >> Where am I going to leave your money? Like you want >> that bag? There's another bag in there with the same pattern. >> We got the car key. >> Yes. The car keys should be there's two car keys. One is mine. The pink ones are mine and you can put that in there. >> Just put everything in there. >> So, you don't want the money with you? >> Do you have any cards? >> $200. >> Do you have a card? >> You can take them with you. It's just going to go into like the ATM. You get once you come out the regular check. >> Yeah. Can you just take out like 200? >> And do you have any cards that you want to take right here? >> Do I need like I just want to know like is my stuff going to get ran through >> or is it just with me? Not >> so what happens it goes with you but >> they have to take it back. >> They'll take it and they do an inventory of it. When it comes to any kind of currency or anything like that, we have to put it through a machine. So this way there's no >> So what if I leave that there and then just take my card? That would be better. You could do that. >> The only problem you're going to run into is obviously she has access to the room and stuff like that. So your money can go with you and it goes into a machine. >> The woman's stuff got checked and yeah, cops grabbed her phone too just in case they needed any numbers or dirt later. Shockingly, she stayed chill the whole time and didn't even try to throw a tantrum. No yelling, no arguing, zero drama. It's like she knew the game was up and decided not to make it messier for herself. >> Once you're released, they have to give you your money back. Do you trust her not to take? >> I mean, if she take it, that's just another problem. But I rather keep my money here so I can find my >> Once you get released, that's probably >> Yeah, but check it. >> Where's your cards? You know, it should be like in here. No, it's not in there. It's like another small wallet. It's either in there or in my other bag. >> Maybe uh >> you could watch. >> She should know where your cards are. >> I don't know if she should. You said shouldn't. She shouldn't. It's either in that bag or in the bag in the car cuz I kind of took everything. You just have candy >> and then the chips and then you pop these. >> Yeah, that's fine. It's probably in the other bag in the car. >> My phone's about to die. Can I take my charger? >> Give me this right now. >> All right. Can she put this in the room for you? garbage. That's garbage. >> Okay. Can you do what? >> Why is she crying? >> She said [Music] this for now. might be. I don't know. I get to the car. I'll put it in the If you want that >> cops were chopping it up with the girlfriend, making sure all the deets were out in the open. Didn't want to give her a chance to pull the they did me dirty card later. After they wrapped up the whole scene, they walked her out of the hotel like she was some kind of celeb, except her Uber was a squad car. If I would have never came back, it would have been like a warrant for me or something, >> something like that. We could have um we still would have documented everything and yeah, we would have sent charges then the state would have decided, but we can't leave you guys here together. So, >> is that the reason why you're arresting me though? >> What? No, cuz >> we can't be here together or just because it has to happen. >> Yeah. >> I mean, either way, there would have been charges, you know, brought up. >> So, can I not be here and have charges or I have to get arrested? >> What do you mean? Well, you're here right now, so yeah, you're getting arrested. >> Um, so she said she's going to bring it back from the car upstairs and leave it in the room or you can leave it in the car. The only problem is is people break into people's cars and you run into that. That's what I care about. >> So, you want your bag to go in the room, correct? >> Yes, please. >> Okay. And your bag has >> like I'm about to get on my period. Can I get >> I don't think you can bring this into the jail. >> I think >> they have some at the jail. >> So, your bag's going to go in the room. >> Your bag's going to go in the room just like this. It's going to be captured on our camera. >> The money's in their bag. >> Yeah. >> Okay. We have a picture. >> Um, >> you want to try and get your cards? Which car you going to do this? >> Your card. Yeah, >> we could drive in the car. This should be in the car. >> Okay. Cuz then Are you going to leave the rental car with her? >> You want to take the keys? >> She has the keys, right? >> What do you want to do? >> Hopefully I could get a ride. You could tell her that. >> Ask her if she can pick me up. >> What's going to end up happening is be a no contact order. Do you have So, what's going to end up happening is you can't make contact is if we are aware that you make contact and you can go back to jail. >> Me only, >> right? Yeah, cuz you're the problem. >> Well, it's your you'd be the one that has a no contact order. So, the judge is going to tell you you can't talk to her. And if you do it, then >> and then she calls the police and says, "Hey, she called." >> Then at that point, >> you have that issue. But you still have the hotel room here. You can call whoever you need to call once you get to the jail to see if they can either Uber you or lift you. Um, it should have some kind of charger or you can probably find somebody who has a charger. Charge your phone. >> That's a misdemeanor. >> Okay. >> Do you want to turn your phone off so you >> My phone should be dead right now. >> Um, so you don't want to get your cards. I know people do bondsman. I don't know how >> if I need my card to bond. She might need your cards contact you and then go from there. So I shouldn't like tomorrow is not the only day. Do you have anything on you? Uh when you get in my apartment after surgery. So I just want to hang out. >> Um my partner >> No. Yeah. This way. >> All right. Anything on you? widening your stance. I'm going to take your charger out in the front. >> No, >> nothing hiding. Turn the car out on the AC and then we'll wait for your cards. Okay. >> Mhm. >> Watch your head. Grab the seat belt. Turn on the car. Once she was in the back of the cruiser, the officer returned to the hotel room and asked her partner to collect her belongings from the car. She moved quietly. No words, just a heavy kind of silence between them. No outbursts, no attitude, just that cold, awkward air that hangs around when love and trouble share the same space. >> Hey, do you mind going to the car to get her cards in case she needs to bond out >> because she doesn't she says it's in the she said let's just wait back a little bit cuz she's only going one elevator. Um cuz she said um it should be in the car. So I do have the keys. We'll let them go around that one elevator and then just stay right here real quick. You have the keys? >> Yeah. Let's actually set the stairs out. Keep [Music] going. Put your [ __ ] in my kid. She said it's in like a little wallet. [Music] She did take my [ __ ] She tried to be funny. Oh, I forgot she had a bottle. >> No, that means it has to be in the one upstairs now. She checked the one upstairs and it wasn't there. She said it should be. >> Oh. Oh. >> Perfect. >> So, just so you see, she has like $5 in here. So, >> that's Oh, it's 100 five. There's 100 underneath. Hey, this is the wallet, right? Just so you know, there's some cash in here. So, I kind of $105, right? So, it's going right back in there saying that you had it and the officer's going to have your stuff, right? >> What you mean? >> They talk to I talk to you. The lady was asking. She's like, "Hey, where you at?" >> I guess it's a manager. >> For what? >> The Airbnb. >> Yo, you're good. I'll go. >> All right. You heard I said wait for me. >> Yeah. I'll right here. >> After all the paperwork and her stuff was rounded up, she was finally headed to jail to face the music. probably realizing too late that things might have gone smoother if she'd used a little brain power and dialed down the rage. Guess some lessons only come with a cell and a lot of free time to think about it. She was charged with battery dating violence, a misdemeanor under Florida law. Due to the nature of the relationship and visible injuries, officers had probable cause to take her into custody. However, the state attorney's office later dropped the charges, issuing a no information notice after reviewing the case.
