Welcome back everyone. Today's video comes to us from the state of Missouri where channel catfish, generally speaking, have a bag limit of 10 per person. [music] However, this amount can vary by the body of water, so it's always important to verify before heading out. On Lake Seven in the Bush area of St. Charles County, anglers are only allowed four per person. [music] Now, conservation agents were patrolling the lake and they spotted five individuals on the other side of the lake. However, after the group of anglers spotted the officers doing checks on the other side of the lake, three of them decided to get into their vehicle and leave the area. The officers eventually made their way around the lake before contacting the two remaining individuals along the shoreline. >> How are you guys? >> Hey guys, how are you doing? >> Oh, not bad. You having any luck? >> Uh yeah, just a little bit. >> Yeah, catching some? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. All right. We'll take a look at your fish and permits. That's all we need to see. >> I'm the only one that's fishing. He's just sitting here with me bothering me. >> You catch all these then? >> Yeah, bro. You called Okay. Let me call my cousin. I'm going to call you right back. Okay. Yeah, I ain't got no service out here. Can you look at it by my name? Okay. >> And you're the only one fishing? >> Yeah, I'm the only one fishing. >> And you Okay, so these are all yours? >> Yeah. >> All right. I'm just making sure cuz you can only catch four and there's five in there. >> Oh, okay. I didn't >> So, you're you're one fish over the limit, okay? >> Okay. >> So, did you catch all five or did somebody else fish without a permit? >> No, I did. >> Okay. >> Yeah, these poles right here broke. I was just out here working on them. I think it's six in there. >> No, it's five. >> Oh. >> Is that good for you? >> Yeah, that's five. >> I think it's five. Uh I don't know if it's six. >> Four? >> Four. >> Okay. >> Four. >> the >> Do you have a ID on you? >> Yeah, it's in my car. >> No, you're good. Hey man, were you fishing? >> Yes, sir. >> Were you fishing? >> No. >> I said it was like one Any of those >> No, this is all his. >> No, what about the other guy that left? >> No, that was his son. His son just came to say hi to him. >> All right. Well, I'm just saying did Did he Is he taking a fall for somebody else here? >> No. No. No. No, sir. >> Okay. You get what I'm saying? Like >> No, I I I kind of I think I do. I don't know for sure. I don't know how this >> If he didn't catch all five of those and somebody else was just fishing without a permit >> how this wildlife thing goes, but no, this is all his. Uh his poles >> Okay. >> his speaker >> I just I just want to make sure You get what I'm saying? Like he's not taking blame for somebody else in his boat. >> me out the house because I I've been going through some things. >> I got you. >> And that's it. >> No, that's That's good. I mean that's good. I didn't see you fishing or anything like that. >> He told me to come sit with him. >> You get what I'm saying? Like if you caught a fish and stuck in there >> it. >> If you caught a fish and stuck in there >> Yeah. >> And he's taking credit for it, that's going to put him over the limit versus you just being in violation. >> Uh no, I I I haven't been fishing in 10 years since with my grandpa. Um As far as the license goes, how do you go about getting that? >> a fishing license. You can buy it online. >> Buy it online? Okay. >> Yeah. >> Uh I just been sitting with him. >> Okay. >> That's it. >> I just didn't want him to take the fall for somebody else here. You get what I'm saying? >> Um I don't even I don't know I don't even know what he did wrong. >> All right. That'll work. >> Okay. >> All right, what we're going to do I'm going to give you a just a citation for take over limit. You can take care of it through the mail if you want to. Or I mean you can take care of it online. The other thing is I'm not taking your fish but you have to throw one of them back when we're done with it. I just brought them up here to photograph them, okay? I'll be done in just a few minutes. If you would, you can take that back there now. Just throw >> [snorts] >> I can throw them back. >> The smallest one. Okay. Did you question them about him just taking the fall for somebody? I'll be two hours. >> Okay. >> Yeah, my my kids was here. They 16. >> Okay, he's 16? >> Yeah. >> Okay, he still needs a permit. >> Oh, okay. I didn't know I didn't know that but he they just came up and broke the poles and stuff. They didn't catch anything. >> Okay, they weren't fishing or anything? >> Yeah, they was just throwing the poles out there and stuff. >> Okay, do they have permits or anything? >> My no. >> So, here's the deal. Since you're getting a ticket, let's just tell your kids to go buy their permits, okay? >> I just tell them not to come again. >> Now, as a father I really hate to hear a response like that. A fishing license is cheap compared to most things in life and that should not stop you from taking your kid fishing. Taking your kid fishing is a great opportunity to get them outdoors while creating life long memories. And if your response is something like this, you need to do better. >> Well, no. Don't do that. You got to get them fishing. You got to get them out of the house. But so here here's the rule of thumb. If you can drive to the hole, you need a permit to fish it. So, if you're 16 and older, you got to have a permit. >> 16 and older. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, that Don't Don't tell them not to come. You just got to get them a permit. 13 bucks is pretty cheap for them. >> Well, we stay we stay out all the way out in Florida. I usually fish with him on the river and stuff like that, but >> Yeah, once they turn 16 they got to have it, all right? >> Okay, I got you. >> And so all three of them 16? >> Well, the old the older He's the oldest, isn't >> Yeah, no. The oldest one is 18. He just graduated. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, make sure they get permits, all right? >> Okay. >> So, where Are they coming back or did they just leave them? >> They They They They packed up and leaving. >> Okay. >> I was going to make dollars. I was going to get ready to pack everything up and >> Well, you can catch and release. You just can't keep them anymore. >> Okay. What's the limit for? Yeah, I never knew that. This is my second time being out here. I never >> Yeah, you can catch and release now, but the fish that are in your basket >> Uh-huh. >> have to stay in your basket. You can't swap them out. So if you catch a 30 pounder, you're going to have to throw it back. >> Oh, >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. Once it Once they go in your basket, they're counted as your fish. >> I've never been out here before. >> Yeah, so if you throw one out of your basket and stick another one in, that's called calling and that's illegal. >> Okay. >> So, >> What is that? I just packed it up. We got We got the four we going to keep. >> Okay. >> He made me throw one back, so I threw it back. >> Okay. So, as far as your as far as your kids We're not going to run down your kids and issue tickets or anything. Just make sure you get them permits, all right? It's 13 bucks. >> Yeah, I know. I I bought it. Like I said, I got the app and when I bought a fishing license, I just put everything in the app and show people, but I I guess I ain't got no service out here. Won't come up. >> No, it's I got you to pull it up, so >> You got a ticket? >> Huh? >> You got a ticket? >> Yeah. >> It's a citation. I got a lot of I got them. Sorry. >> That's all right. It's all right. >> Yeah, even if I catch the Is it 30 pounders out here? >> I'm just saying I don't care if it's 50 or 60 pounders, you got to throw it back. >> Hey. Hey, strike. >> Uh >> wildlife >> No, I come out here with my uncle sometimes and he's 56. Do you need a license? >> Yep. >> Okay. So, what's >> It's once he's turned 65 and you're a Missouri resident. So, 16 to 64 you got to have a permit. Under 16, 15 and under or 65 and older, they can fish for free if they're a Missouri resident. >> Okay. >> Yeah, they still got to be a Missouri resident for the 65 and older. >> Okay. >> Kids are kids. We let them >> 16 to 64 >> Yep. >> He told me to come out here with him to get some peace and that was all it was. >> It's all right. And this is the most important This is the most important thing I'm giving you. You see that website right there? >> Yeah. >> Wait 3 weeks and then you can get on that website. You can either put in your name or that number right there. >> Okay. >> And then it'll tell you like how to take care of it. >> Okay. >> And you just either pay it or you ask for a court date. You can see you don't have a court date on there right now. >> Okay. >> You'll just you'll find that out online, but give it 3 weeks, okay? >> Okay. >> It takes forever to process all this. I'll give you a copy of this This is the important thing to keep to make sure you have that. You said okay. And you can go on back, right? >> Yeah, I can go on back. Yeah. >> All right. >> Yeah. >> All right. Take care. >> All right, then. >> You can go on back to your vehicle. >> You too. >> Now, the angler was ultimately charged with taking or possessing over the legal limit of fish in a department area. He later played guilty and was ordered to pay the lowest fine we've seen yet, $25 and four points went on his fishing license. Now, with a fine that low, you would think he would take care of it, right? If you said yes, you would be wrong because the fine is now 5 months overdue and has a current balance of $42.50. Then again, if someone's unwilling to pay $13 to take their own kid fishing, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Anyways, that's it for today's video.
