They do not ignore it, and they do not just take her word for it, either. They ask her where the baby actually is. The story shifts to an address on another street, and one officer confirms it out loud. The kid is not here, not in her car. Here is the thing. Officers are trained to take a child welfare claim seriously and check it, which they did. But, a claim made to get out of an arrest does not stop the arrest, especially when there is already a warrant. Saying anything to be let go almost never works.
