On February 8, 2025, Arkansas State Trooper Ervin Clokey attempted to stop a white and blue 2021 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R traveling 140 MPH on Interstate 40 East near the 47-mile marker in Johnson County, Arkansas. The rider, Briar Vaughn, refused to stop, weaving through traffic and passing vehicles on the shoulder at dangerous speeds.
Trooper Clokey pursued Vaughn, reaching 129 MPH but was unable to catch up due to the motorcycle’s speed advantage. Sr. Cpl. David Smothers positioned his patrol unit near Exit 55 ahead of the pursuit. When Vaughn attempted to exit, Cpl. Smothers blocked the path, causing the rider to lay the motorcycle down on the grass embankment. Vaughn was taken into custody without further incident.
Upon arrest, Vaughn admitted he tried to escape onto back roads to avoid troopers near the Clarksville station, but his plan failed when Smothers intercepted him.
