Motorcycle Flies Up Behind Arkansas Trooper at 100 MPH Before I-40 Chase Begins

What began with a motorcycle rapidly approaching an Arkansas State Police patrol unit from behind quickly developed into a triple-digit-speed encounter on Interstate 40. According to the official report, Sergeant Steven Roberts was traveling eastbound on I-40 near Mile Marker 282 when a black motorcycle approached his marked patrol vehicle from behind at speeds near 100 MPH. Roberts moved his patrol unit into the motorcycle's lane and activated his blue lights in an attempt to slow the rider and initiate a traffic stop. Instead, the motorcycle allegedly drove around the patrol vehicle and accelerated away at speeds exceeding 100 MPH. With no traffic immediately ahead, Roberts tried a second time to position his patrol vehicle in front of the motorcycle and slow it down. Once again, the rider allegedly maneuvered around the trooper. The entire encounter unfolded over only a few interstate miles, creating an unusual pursuit in which the trooper repeatedly attempted to get ahead of the motorcycle rather than simply following behind.
