HIGH SPEED PURSUIT - PIT Maneuver sends Chevy Cruze for a roll as suspect tries to flee #police #pit
Description
***(The Trooper's report is below. The vehicle contained 150 pills believed to be fentanyl)***
Trooper's Narrative:
On Thursday, April, 6, 2023, at approximately 1210 hours, I observed a white Chevrolet Cruze traveling westbound on
Interstate 40, at mile marker 135, in the left lane. As the vehicle passed me, I observed that the windows were too dark to see
into. After catching up to the vehicle, I observed it follow a pickup truck too close before impeding traffic in the left lane. I
activated my emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.
At this point, the vehicle took the 132 exit, but failed to stop. After slow rolling onto Baker Wills Parkway, the vehicle took off,
and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle immediately turned south onto SH 365, running the stop sign, endangering other motorists
in the intersection. While traveling south on SH 365, speeds reached approximately 100 mph. As we approached Lasker
Lane, I conducted a TVI (Tactical Vehicle Intervention) on the rear driver side portion of the vehicle. The vehicle was forced to
spin in a counterclockwise motion before striking an embankment. After colliding with the embankment, the car rolled over one
time.
At this point, the driver, Davion Richards, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
After coming to a stop, I exited my patrol car and began pursuing the driver on foot. After a short foot pursuit, and with the
assistance of Mayflower PD, Richards was taken into custody without further incident.
The passenger, Paul Humphrey, exited the car and was also taken into custody. Pafford was called to treat him for minor
injuries. Later he was transported to Baptist Hospital in Conway.
***A short time after the pursuit, the vehicle was searched. The search revealed approximately 150 pills believed to be fentanyl,
and one small bag of green leafy substance.***
Richards was taken to Conway PD for questioning before being transported to Faulkner County Detention Center, Unit #2,
where he was booked and charged with the following: 5-64-440(c) Trafficking a Controlled Substance, 5-54-125(d)(2) Felony
Fleeing in a Vehicle, 5-54-125(c) Fleeing on Foot, 5-64-419(b)(5)(A) Possession of a Controlled Substance Schedule VI Less
than 4 OZ.
