Police bodycam footage captures a store employee being arrested after loss prevention uncovered an alleged employee theft and fake refund scheme. What begins as a retail fraud investigation takes an unexpected turn when police discover something else during the arrest. Police responded to a newly opened Skechers store after loss prevention reported suspicious employee returns and possible employee fraud. According to investigators, legitimate customer purchases were allegedly being entered back into the register as fake refunds after customers had already left the store with their merchandise. Loss prevention explained to police how the alleged refund fraud scheme worked. After a legitimate sale, a return would allegedly be processed without the merchandise actually coming back to the store. The cash register would then open as though a real customer refund were taking place, allegedly allowing cash to be removed from the register. This police bodycam video follows officers as they review transaction records, speak with loss prevention, examine evidence from multiple store locations, and question the employee about the alleged retail theft and fraudulent returns. During questioning, the employee acknowledges writing a statement and tells officers that financial problems were involved. Police eventually place her under arrest, but the bodycam footage captures another unexpected development while officers prepare to transport her. During the search, the employee tells police that she has fentanyl in her wallet. Officers then recover the substance while continuing the arrest process. The employee was taken into custody and charged with scheme to defraud after investigators alleged the fraudulent returns caused more than $1,700 in losses. Officers also reported finding fentanyl in her possession.
