GREAT SHRUBBERY! Hyundai Santa Fe attempts to lose Trooper in Apartment Complex - Crashes #pursuit
Description
Trooper's Report: On 7/10/23 at approximately 1:23 AM, I, TFC Williams, was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 430 northbound near mile marker 5 when I observed a vehicle, later identified as a Hyundai Santa Fe displaying AR LPN DV59391, approaching at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was estimated to be traveling 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. Using my rear radar antenna, I locked the speed of the vehicle at 91 mph. As the vehicle passed by me, I observed the left tail light to be inoperable. As I moved from the shoulder to catch up to the vehicle, without lights and siren, I observed it take the Shackleford Rd exit. As I approached the intersection, the vehicle had already turned. I observed the vehicle continuing northbound on Shackleford Rd, passing through red traffic lights at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then turned west onto Mara Lynn Rd. As I caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, it turned into the Northwest Hills Apartment complex at 11701 Mara Lynn Rd. The vehicle accelerated away, and I advised dispatch that I was in pursuit. The vehicle made multiple circles through the apartment complex before turning west onto Mara Lynn Rd. As we turned north on Mara Lynn Rd, which becomes Nappa Valley Dr, I attempted a TVI on the vehicle. The vehicle applied the brakes, making the TVI unsuccessful. The vehicle continued on Nappa Valley Dr, driving in the opposite lane of traffic. As the vehicle approached the intersection with Hinson Rd, it failed to negotiate the turn, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. The vehicle came to a stop against a wooden privacy fence and shrubbery. The suspect, Javonte Davis, was called from the vehicle and placed into custody without further incident. Metro Towing was called for the vehicle. Davis was transported to Baptist Hospital to be cleared for booking at the Pulaski County Jail. Davis was charged with failing to register vehicle, no insurance, suspended license, defective tail lamp, fail to stop at red light, speeding – more than 15 mph, and fleeing by vehicle.
