No Public Records For People That Annoy Us - HB139 By Cathleen Cates
Description
Municipal League - AJ Forte 505-699-6944 505-982-5573 State representative Cathleen Cates 505-986-4432 District legislative aide 505-946-5644 Part of the democratic process is making sure that your voice is heard so your "representatives can ignore you... after all, you are annoying and frustrating to them. New Mexico disctrict 44 state representative Cathleen Cates is carrying a bill that says that government can deem you annoying, frustrating, or one who causes them worry, and not have to fill any records requests for you for a period of 3 years after this designation is made. There are at least 2, possilbe 3 similar bills, and they are being pushed by the New Mexico Municpal League headed up by attorney AJ Forte. The municipal league says that since 2020 the number of open records requests submitted has more than doubled. This is direct result of educational campaigns that have been run teaching average citizens about their RIGHT to know what their government is doing at all times. AJ Forte finds this annoying and worrysome, and wants to put a stop to open and transparent government.
