Title
Sport Bike riders reach 130+ MPH to flee from Arkansas State Police #police #pursuit
Description
On 4/8/2023 at approximately 9:02 PM, I was traveling southbound on I-49 near the 78mm in the inside lane. I observed a reading of 109 Mph from my rear facing radar. Using my driver side mirror, I observed two sport motorcycles approaching my rear at a high rate of speed. I changed lanes into the middle lane, as to let them pass me so I could get behind them. As they drew closer both riders switched lanes into the middle lane. I changed lanes again into the outside lane, then onto the shoulder so that I could slow to get behind the motorcycles. Both riders passed me in the middle lane and I reentered the roadway. I changed lanes from the outside lane into the middle lane, positioning my vehicle to the rear of the riders. Both riders were wearing dark-colored clothing, with backpacks, and helmets. The riders were side by side in the middle lane. The only distinguishable feature I observed was the rider on the right had his license plate perpendicular to the ground instead of parallel. I was unable to distinguish the color of the bikes or the license plate due to the speeds we were traveling at and the dark. I told dispatch my location, descriptions of the bikes, then activated my emergency lights to conduct at traffic stop. At this point we were between the 77mm and the 76mm. Both riders continued in the middle lane for about a quarter of a mile. The rider on the left began slowing and changed lanes into the inside lane. Simultaneously the rider on the right switched lanes into the outside lane and increased speed. I notified Troop L Dispatch that I was in pursuit of the motorcycle rider on the right at approximately 9:03pm. We passed the 76 mm and continued south. Speeds were 132 Mph. Traffic was light. Once the rider negotiated the curve after the 76 mm, he increased his speed to well beyond 130 mph. After negotiating the curve myself I realized I had not yet activated my emergency siren so I quickly did so. As we approached the 73 mm, traffic became heavy. The rider began weaving in and out of traffic, and splitting the lanes between vehicles. The distance between myself and the rider was growing every mile due to traffic. Traffic lightened between the 73 mm and the 72 mm. I could still see the rider about 1/2 mile ahead of me. I lost visual of the rider as he took the curve before the 72 mm. I continued south until the 71 mm, I was unable to locate the rider and made the decision to terminate the pursuit at approximately 9:06pm.
