Title
Reckless driver call quickly becomes pursuit - Arkansas State Police PIT maneuver ends chase #pit
Description
Trooper's Narrative: On 7/13/2026, I was patrolling Sharp County. At approximately 12:14 PM, I received a call from Troop B dispatch advising me of a reckless driver northbound on US Highway 63 between Black Rock and Imboden in Lawrence County. The caller advised dispatch that the reckless vehicle was a white Chevy passenger car with an unknown state license plate number XH9X0D and that it was all over the road, passing other motorists on double yellow lines and running other vehicles off the road, almost causing several accidents. As I was traveling to a location where I could intercept the suspect vehicle, Lawrence County dispatch notified Sharp County dispatch that Ravenden Police Chief John Kedding (901) had attempted to stop the suspect vehicle near Ravenden, but it was not pulling over. Chief Kedding advised that the suspect vehicle was driving in an unsafe manner and at speeds varying between 45 and 75 mph in a posted 55mph zone northbound on US Highway 63. I monitored the pursuit as it approached Hardy and got in a position at the bottom of Bowman Hill on US Highway 63, where I could intercept it. At approximately 12:31 PM, I intercepted the pursuit and took over as primary. The vehicle was traveling at speeds around 50 mph and was swerving from the centerline to over the fog line and passing vehicles that were pulling over for our emergency lights and sirens. Due to the fact that the vehicle was driving in an unsafe manner, fleeing from law enforcement, and approaching Hardy, which has increased pedestrian traffic, I decided that when I had the opportunity, I would perform a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) before we could reach the city. After we traveled through a sharp curve and got to a straight stretch of the highway, traffic cleared up, and at approximately 12:32 PM, I performed a TVI on the fleeing vehicle. In response to the TVI, the suspect vehicle went into the southbound roadside of US Highway 63 and came to a stop. The driver was then taken into custody and identified as Shonna R. Lalonde. During the inventory of the vehicle, a 1.75 L bottle of Bacardi with approximately one third left in the container was found within reach of the driver's seat, as well as a marijuana grinder with residue in the glove compartment. The suspect was transported by the Sharp County Sheriff's Office to the White River Medical Complex in Cherokee Village for evaluation to make sure there was no injury. Due to the circumstances and signs of impairment, I obtained a search warrant for Ms. Lalonde's blood to determine the alcohol and controlled substance content present. After the warrant was served and her blood was obtained, Ms. Lalonde was transported to the Sharp County Detention Facility, where charges will be filed. The charges being filed are Fleeing, DWI, Open Container, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Reckless Driving, and No Proof of Insurance.
