Title
DODGE CHARGER is SPIKED by Arkansas State Police ending 140+ MPH high speed pursuit #spikestrip
Description
Trooper's Narrative:
On April 25, 2026, at approximately 2:42 PM, I, TFC Garrett Byrd, was traveling east on US Highway 70 near Lehi in Crittenden
County when I observed a white Dodge Charger traveling westbound appearing to exceed the posted speed limit of 55 miles
per hour. I used radar to confirm the Charger was traveling 77 miles per hour.
As the Charger passed me, I observed that the
driver was a black male with short, braided hair, and he was wearing a white t-shirt. I also observed a white tag with black
characters displayed on the rear of the Charger, similar in appearance to a temporary tag. Upon completing a U-turn to perform
a traffic stop, I observed the Charger appeared to be accelerating, and as I approached triple-digit speeds to attempt to catch
up to the Charger, it became apparent the vehicle had accelerated. I initiated my lights and sirens, used front radar to capture a
speed of 129 miles per hour, and I informed Sgt. Steve Roberts, whom I knew to be west of my location. I advised that the
Charger was fleeing, and I informed that I was in pursuit as the vehicle continued at reckless speeds past other motorists and
numerous driveways, and I reached a speed of 140 miles per hour while attempting to catch up to the Charger. described of the
vehicle and the driver.
As the Charger approached the intersection of Highway 70 and Highway 79, I observed the Charger turn north onto Highway
79 towards Interstate 40. The charger traveled past the eastbound on ramp and crossed the Interstate 40 overpass, and as I
traveled across the overpass, I observed the Charger on the Interstate 40 westbound on ramp, entering Interstate 40
westbound at the 265-mile marker. I informed other troopers, and I pursued the Charger onto the interstate. Sgt. Roberts
advised that he was going to get into position to deploy a tire deflation device at the 256-mile marker. The Charger continued to
flee at reckless speeds well over 100 miles per hour, dangerously maneuvered around heavy traffic, and used the shoulder to
pass.
Even though I traveled at speeds up to 140 miles per hour, the Charger was able to maintain distance. As the Charger
approached the 256-mile marker, where Sgt. Roberts was in position, it slowed down and attempted to avoid the tire deflation
device, but the right side tires struck the device, and the Charger came to a stop along the inside shoulder.
The driver, matching the original description, was taken into custody without incident. I observed an odor of marijuana coming
from the vehicle and the driver’s person, and marijuana and rolling papers were located during a search of the vehicle. The
driver was identified as Carius Tynell Curne with a valid license in Louisiana.
When I advised Curne that he was
under arrest for fleeing, he advised that he did not know I was behind him. Diamond D Wrecker Service towed the vehicle from
the scene.
Curne was transported to the Crittenden County Jail and booked on the following charges:
Felony Fleeing in a Vehicle –
Substantial Danger of Death,
Possession of a Controlled Substance Schedule VI – Less than 4 Ounces, Possession of Drug
Paraphernalia,
Reckless Driving,
Speeding, and
Improper Passing.
