Title
Fleeing driver arrested: 11/30/23
Description
Last night, analysts at the Volusia County Crime Center alerted deputies to a vehicle in DeLand whose owner had felony warrants out of Seminole County. Deputies spotted the vehicle at a DeLand gas station and eventually moved in to take the driver (21-year-old Timothy Chiles Jr.) into custody. As a deputy approached from the front and gave commands, Chiles reversed into another deputy's vehicle approaching from behind. Then he took off fleeing south on Woodland Boulevard to SR 472. A third deputy was waiting along 472 and successfully deployed stop sticks, which disabled 3 tires, after which Chiles bailed out of the car and ran into the woods. He ended up surrendering without further incident and was taken into custody on his charges: Aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement Resisting arrest without violence Driving with a suspended/revoked license Leaving the scene of a crash with damage (DeLand PD charge) Fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement (Seminole County warrant) Violation of probation (Seminole County warrant) Chiles also received traffic citations for: Improper backing Running a red light No proof of insurance Leaving car running while unattended Aggravated fleeing and eluding a Law Enforcement Officer Failure to stop prior to leaving private business onto public roadway Failure to change address
