K9 GHOST bites subject who fled from Arkansas State Police - PIT MANEUVER ends pursuit #pit #chase
Description
On August 29, 2026, I, Trooper Thomas, was stationary on Interstate 40 near the 282-mile marker conducting traffic
enforcement while providing secondary officer lighting for another Trooper who was stopped on the highway.
While assisting the other Trooper, I observed a black passenger vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 40 in the right lane at
a speed of 68 miles per hour in a posted 65-mile-per-hour zone. While observing the vehicle in my rearview mirror, I continued
to monitor its speed and observed that it remained at approximately 68 miles per hour.
As the passenger vehicle approached and passed my patrol vehicle, my rear emergency lights were activated, and the
secondary Trooper's patrol vehicle was displaying emergency lights. I began to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle for passing
an authorized vehicle stopped on the highway.
As the Nissan Versa continued westbound on Broadway, passing the middle school, the driver began brake-checking my patrol
vehicle, preventing me from safely closing the distance. The Nissan Versa continued to swerve from lane to lane.
As the Nissan Versa approached 8th Street, I was able to successfully perform a TVI, causing the Nissan Versa to come to rest
in a parking area along the shoulder of Broadway.
After the vehicle came to rest, the driver exited the Nissan Versa and fled on foot westbound along the walkway toward a
residential neighborhood. Trooper Fultz arrived on scene as the driver was exiting the vehicle and attempting to head west on
Broadway toward 7th Street. As the driver was fleeing on foot, Trooper Fultz deployed his K-9 partner, who was able to prevent
the driver from escaping. After the K-9 apprehended the suspect, Trooper Fultz and I placed the driver into custody without
further incident.
The driver was identified as James Gregory. After placing Mr. Gregory into custody, I observed a strong odor of intoxicants
coming from his person. I also observed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery and that his speech was slurred.
Mr. Gregory refused medical treatment after EMS arrived on scene. EMS attempted to check Mr. Gregory's wounds; however,
Mr. Gregory stated that he was not going anywhere with them and did not want any medical treatment. Mr. Gregory was transferred from the ambulance and placed in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle.
While in the rear seat of my patrol vehicle, Mr. Gregory began striking his head against the glass, causing an injury to his
forehead and resulting in bleeding. Due to the successful K-9 deployment and Mr. Gregory injuring his forehead on the glass, I
began transporting Mr. Gregory to Crittenden Baptist Hospital.
While at Crittenden Baptist Hospital, I attempted to read Mr. Gregory the Arkansas Statement of Rights in an attempt to obtain
a urine sample. Mr. Gregory stated, "You don't need a test. I can tell you how drunk and how high I am." Mr. Gregory
subsequently stated that he was "drunk as fck and high as a motherfcking kite."
I began reading the Arkansas Statement of Rights to Mr. Gregory again. Mr. Gregory stated, "I'm done listening to you." Mr.
Gregory refused to allow me to continue reading the Statement of Rights and became uncooperative and aggressive. Mr.
Gregory stated, "Take these cuffs off me, close the door, and when I'm done with you, you won't be able to put them back on."
While at Crittenden Baptist Hospital, Mr. Gregory received an MRI to determine whether he was suffering from any internal
bleeding. All medical treatment received at Crittenden Baptist Hospital showed that he was clear of any injuries and was
cleared to be released.
Crittenden Baptist Hospital attempted to provide Mr. Gregory with antibiotics for the K-9 deployment, as well as for the injury to
his forehead. Mr. Gregory refused any medication, stating, "You don't care about me. You're just trying to give me something to
kill me."
After receiving the medical discharge paperwork, Mr. Gregory was transported to the Crittenden County Jail.
Mr. Gregory was booked into the County jail and was charged with:
