POLICE BREAK WINDOW TO EXTRACT DRIVER AFTER ARKANSAS STATE POLICE PIT MANEUVER #pursuit #chase #pit
Description
Trooper's Report: On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at approximately 2:18 a.m., Troop A Communications advised that the Bryant Police Department was requesting assistance with a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 30 East near the 123-mile marker (Reference Bryant PD Report 26-011036). The suspect vehicle was described as a black Chevrolet HHR. Bryant Police Department further advised the vehicle had previously fled from the Little Rock Police Department. The pursuit continued for approximately nine miles, at which time I was able to intercept near University Avenue at the 132-mile marker. While responding, I heard Bryant Police Department units advise that the suspect vehicle was struggling to maintain a single lane of travel and was traveling below the posted speed limit, both indicators of possible impairment. I observed the suspect vehicle pass my location and assumed the primary position in the pursuit. I observed three clearly marked Bryant Police Department units actively involved, all with emergency equipment activated. I maneuvered alongside the suspect vehicle on the driver’s side and illuminated the interior of the vehicle using my spotlight. I observed the driver, later identified as Curtis Rogers, look in my direction. Based on the continued failure to yield to multiple marked law enforcement units, the length of the pursuit, the prior fleeing incident, and the suspect’s erratic driving behavior consistent with possible impairment, I determined the pursuit posed a danger to the public and needed to be terminated. I slowed my speed to match the speed of Mr. Rogers' vehicle. I then applied the passenger-side front bumper of my patrol vehicle to the driver-side rear bumper of the suspect vehicle and conducted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). The suspect vehicle rotated counterclockwise and came to a final rest on the right shoulder of Interstate 30, facing South. Mr. Rogers was taken into custody by Bryant Police Department officers without incident and transported to the Saline County Detention Center, where he was charged accordingly. There was no damage to my patrol vehicle as a result of the TVI.
