Delusional Coworker Murders Friend, Thinks She Can Get Away With It (She Can't)
Description
Watch this police interrogation with intense raw interrogation from the interrogation room as police conduct a full interrogation of a suspect. This raw interrogation footage captures every moment of the suspect interview, complete with deception detection techniques, and criminal psychology in true JCS style interrogation. 1. The Background Victim: Joleen Cummings, 34-year-old mother of three and longtime hair stylist at Tangles Hair Salon in Nassau County, Florida. Defendant: Kimberly Lee Kessler, who worked at the same salon under the alias Jennifer Sybert for about a month. She had used at least 17–18 false identities across multiple states for roughly two decades. Relationship: Co-workers. Cummings was the more established stylist; Kessler was the newer hire. Motive (as presented by prosecutors): Kessler feared Cummings would expose her true identity after a confrontation in which Cummings called her “fake” and said she planned to look her up. 2. The Crime Date: May 12, 2018. Cummings was last seen leaving the salon around 5 p.m. after closing with Kessler. Location: Tangles Hair Salon and surrounding area in Fernandina Beach/Yulee, Florida. Planning indicators: Prior purchases of large zip ties and online searches related to the victim. That same evening Kessler bought cleaning supplies, heavy-duty trash bags, gloves, ammonia, and an electric carving knife. Afterward: Surveillance showed her moving large bags and bins to dumpsters, driving Cummings’ vehicle, and abandoning it in a Home Depot parking lot early the next morning. Outcome: Cummings never returned home, failed to pick up her children on Mother’s Day (also her birthday), and has never been found. 3. The Investigation Kessler stopped coming to work and quit when police contacted her. She was located on May 16 sleeping in her car at an interstate rest area and arrested for vehicle theft. During questioning she admitted her real name was Kimberly Lee Kessler and revealed her long history of living under aliases. Key evidence: Blood linked to Cummings found in the salon and on items connected to Kessler; multiple surveillance videos of her movements and purchases; internet search history; and fake identification documents. She maintained she did not know where Cummings was. 4. Conviction and Sentencing December 9, 2021: A Nassau County jury found Kessler guilty of first-degree murder and grand theft auto after a short deliberation. January 27, 2022: She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the murder charge, plus a concurrent five-year term on the theft charge. Current status: She remains incarcerated in the Florida state prison system serving the life sentence. Appeals and post-conviction challenges have not overturned the conviction.
