On May 23, 2022, a Casa Grande police officer pulled over a black SUV for doing 80 in a 75 on Interstate 10. The driver pulled over on the wrong side of the highway. She had no license — it was suspended. When the officer asked if there was anything in the car, the driver said no and added: "They have kids in there." Both women consented to a search. K9 Officer Deutz found approximately 500,000 fentanyl pills hidden inside collagen supplement bottles, along with a concealed handgun and a large amount of cash. Two children were placed with child safety. In separate interrogations, the stories didn't match. One said she knew nothing. The other admitted they crossed into Mexico specifically to pick up the product.
