Title
Mustang and Meth - High Speed Pursuit over 100 MPH until Arkansas State Police conduct PIT Maneuver
Description
Trooper's Narrative:
On 6/27/23, at approximately 6:35 pm, I, Trooper Daniel Walcott, was stationary on the shoulder of Scotland Formosa Rd
looking out for a pickup truck that had fled from officers out of Conway County. While sitting on the shoulder, I observed a
vehicle approaching me from the rear. When the vehicle passed me, I observed the plate expired on January 31st, 2022. Upon
running the plate through ACIC, I confirmed the tags were expired and the vehicle was not insured. I immediately pulled off the
shoulder and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. It was a silver Ford Mustang bearing AR license plate 288 TLX.
I got behind
the vehicle and activated my emergency lights and siren to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle immediately accelerated, traveling east on Scotland Formosa Rd at a high rate of speed, reaching 103 miles per
hour which was confirmed by radar. The vehicle continued to flee and was driving aggressively as it crossed the double yellow
line into the oncoming traffic lane without care for the safety of others. As we approached Highway 336, I knew the suspect's
driving posed a significant threat to motorists traveling on the upcoming highway. To prevent a lengthy and dangerous pursuit, I
performed a TVI (Tactical Vehicle Intervention) to neutralize the situation and took the driver into custody without further
incident.
Due to disabling damage, Justin's Wrecker towed the suspect vehicle from the scene after I completed an inventory of the
vehicle. I located three plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance weighing approximately 24 grams which field
tested positive for methamphetamine, one burnt glass pipe with a white residue, and a small weight scale. My patrol car
sustained minor damage due to the TVI.
The driver was identified as Joshua Scott Denham, born 1/1/1987, upon running him through ACIC. Mr. Denham's driver's
license was suspended due to a previous conviction for DUI drugs. Mr. Denham was read his Miranda rights, transported to the
Van Buren County Detention Center, and released into the custody of the detention center staff. The evidence was turned over to the DEA with the
20th judicial drug task force.
Joshua Scott Denham was charged with the following:
