Title
4, 5, 6 BEERS deep: Suspect uses dark farm fields to escape the Arkansas State Police #pursuit
Description
Trooper's Narrative:
On April 18, 2026, at approximately 8:02 pm, while patrolling northbound on U.S. 67, I observed a white SUV in my rearview
mirror traveling northbound behind me. I was able to lock the vehicle speed at 78 MPH in a 60 MPH zone using my rear same
direction radar.
The driver reduced his speed once he saw me and was hesitant to pass me. I reduced my speed to let the vehicle pass me.
Once the vehicle passed me, I initiated my emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. The driver pulled to the shoulder and
began traveling at a slow rate of speed. I initiated my emergency sirens multiple times in an attempt to get the vehicle to stop.
The vehicle made a right turn onto County Road 416 and accelerated. I advised dispatch that I was in pursuit. The vehicle
continued to flee eastbound on County Road 416 before turning left onto a field road. After taking multiple field roads, the
vehicle made a sharp right turn. Due to the muddy terrain, I was unable to make the turn and skidded into the edge of a field
and sank in the mud. A Lawrence County Deputy was able to continue the pursuit until the vehicle crashed out at the
intersection of Lemon and Long Road (see crash report #202606416ASP).
After crashing out, the driver, Christopher Sorg, fled on foot from the Deputies. While fleeing through a field, Sorg broke his
ankle on the uneven terrain. Sorg was taken into custody, and an ambulance was called to treat his injuries.
Sorg openly admitted to the Deputies he had 4 or 5 beers. When I arrived, Sorg had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from
his breath. His eyes were bloodshot and watery. I administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test on Sorg. He exhibited a
total of 6 clues, 3 per eye. I attempted to read the Arkansas Statement of Rights to him, but he refused to submit to any type of
chemical test, shouting profanity. Alcohol was found in the front seat of the vehicle.
Due to the extent of his injuries, Sorg was transported to St. Bernard’s Hospital. An affidavit for Sorg’s arrest will be filed with
the following charges:
5-54-125 fleeing-vehicle or conveyance-exceeding the speed limit,
5-65-103 driving while intoxicated
2nd,
27-51-201 speeding,
27-51-601 fail to obey stop sign,
